Ah ha!

Penn State DID have a winning record against the Gophers...until a few of those Ws got vacated for some reason or another.

It's really sad to look at winning records against successful programs and realize what a football power Minnesota USED to be.

Best to wait for my answer.
You should know that by now.

I'd love to be able to use it, but being as how it was eighty years ago, probably shouldn't, eh?
But no kidding ... We were the shit, man.
Pounded people.
Sigh.

Anybody see the ESPN promo about making the final 4? They actually mention the Gophers. It's kinda odd. I know it means nothing but it was just weird to see us mentioned. Of course, they had to semi-ruin it with having JJ Watts standing there with an Axe we haven't seen since Rhys Lloyd was the best player on our roster.....

Was thinking that had to be a regional commercial.
Guess not if you saw it.
Same thought Jeff.
Odd to be talking about Gophers and Nat Championships.

One of every three teams in the pre-season Top 25 is an SEC team.

Almonzo Brown, WR 6-2, 214 from Suwanee, Ga., commits to the Gophers. He also had offers from Florida, Iowa, Georgia Tech and Kansas State.

also

James Johanson RB, 6-1, 210 from Fargo. He rushed for 2,671 yards and 29 touchdowns last year and is considered a 3 star recruit.

Yep, and the next one too.

But I'm liking the location of our fumble recovery. Now just hand it off and punch it in.

One first down in the 1st quarter, but the fumble gives them 7. Pretty lucky to be ahead the way the other team is controlling the tempo so far. Hopefully they get something going now.

Fun one.
Decent start to the year.
Felt much better at 42-7 or 35-0.
I HATE giving up late TDs. Losers give them up and then say ... "doesn't matter"
HATED giving up all those late points.
We were pitching a shutout with 7 minutes left.
Good programs finish that off with style. I'm betting some coaches were mad as hell, they should be.
Loved the Edwards runs late. Kid has a speed we rarely see. Turned the corner on that last one and was GONE.
Leidner was ok, really will need to smooth out some things tho.
Our DBs seem so much better, so much more athletic, and where the hell did we get these kickers? Holy cow our STs were special.

Agreed man. ST's were actually special. D was good but gave up "gimmies" at the end. The O showed moments but, overall, I was not impressed. Leidner needs to get it together but his first pass of the season, the one to settle his nerves down, was flat out dropped. That probably didn't help his confidence.

Another aspect that I really liked was that we didn't have a bunch of sloppy penalties. That proves that Kill and Co had them mentally prepared. I swear, the D could have had 5-7 int's out there. When have we seen that??

I know they aren't Big 10 but that was a pretty decent team and, even though we didn't play our best, we handled them pretty easily.

On that onside kick at the end - did Eastern Illinois get rewarded for committing a foul? They kicked before the whistle blew to allow the kick so they got to kick again, and on the second kick THEY recovered. Seems like a pretty sweet deal for them. Luckily it didn't change the outcome of the game but it allowed them to score a last minute touchdown.

This year they added a 8th ref and it didn't seem to help. I can pick out 2 missed calls right off hand. 1st Edwards knee on the ground catching pass and advancing the ball, and a late hit out of bounds. Not to mention the do over on onside kick that Lynn mentioned. Now why did they need an extra ref?????

The replay was weird too.One fumble was so obvious, yet they didn't overturn it.And they upheld the second which was less obvious than the first they didn't overturn.

One non-game related note that I got last night. Did anyone else think this? Glen Mason sure doesn't seem to harbor any ill-will towards MN. He is almost over the top nice about the program. It's kinda weird. The whole game I was waiting for it but it never came.

Glad you brought it up Jeff
I was probably the hardest on Mason during his time here ( I've begged for forgiveness since).
But I feel the same thing
Class act IMO
Coulda walked away pissed, never has
The fact we kept paying him well for awhile prolly helped, but .....
I love his homerism
He's proud of what he did here, and looking back, he should be. Nothing wrong with turning out NFL talent, and yearly having a running attack no one could stop.

The reffing as usual was awful
And wrong
Liedner was way down before the end zone on his last TD
The onsides was a disaster
Just wish college refs would strive for more consistency. EI had plenty to gripe about as well.
It kind of reminds me of hockey reffing at this point ... "Well, yeah, maybe, but you aren't supposed to win anyway, so"

Btw ... I keep hearing everyone say that we should be 4-0 heading to Ann Arbor
Is that wise with TCU in there? On the road?
Good test, if nothing else

Leidner was ok, really will need to smooth out some things tho.

We need better than "OK" out of Leidner. This is his 3rd year in the program with 4 starts under his belt. It felt a lot like watching Nelson last year.....around 50% completion pct and 100-150 yards passing each game. These easier teams are where we need to work on improving the passing game and I'm not sure we did that last night. Also, some injuries on the Dline, we will see how those end up.

Many good things though, especially getting the W.

Agree that Leidner needs to be better. But I keep on wondering now how much of it has to do with the remarkably vanilla passing scheme. Would opening up the playbook give him more confidence to read defenses and make decisions? Admittedly, it could also lead to worse decisions and less confidence, but watching multiple QBs look incompetent for the last few years has me wondering...
