Although I think Seattle is easily the best team in the NFL, it is so hard to repeat. I think my list of teams likely to win the SB may have a few other teams ahead of them

1. New Orleans
2. Green Bay
3. Seattle
4. New England
5. Denver
6. SF
7. Philadelphia
8. Indianapolis

The Saints really appear to be peaking. ATL looks like they are still not back yet. Carolina has only about 1 WR and a questionable OL

As for Green Bay, I think the balanced attack with Lacy helps them. I also think this may be both Brees and Rodgers best chance to get #2 because next year Brees will be older and the Vikings will be coming.

I also agree that the owners and GM's won't risk the negative pub they may get by picking him up. Like you said, many other guys in the league that don't produce anywhere near what he did in limited time. That being said, the analysts also mention that he has to play in a traditional 4-3 based on his limitations. That wipes out about 17 teams from even being interested.

Take it with a grain of salt though based on my first comment.

I was never a big Sam fan because of the ridiculous ESPN promotion of him kissing his boyfriend.

I don't care if he is gay - but don't sensationalize it either.

I do believe that any player who produces on the field deserves a shot regardless of sexual orientation.

I saw about 6 quarters of the Rams this preseason and he looked like a NFL quality DE

IMO, when you draft someone and give them a shot and they show they can play they deserve to play!

I can see him not making a 53, but there is no way he shouldn't be on a practice squad.

How in the hell did this man clear waivers??? If our 7th rounder played like this in the pre-season we would be anointing him the next Chris Doleman (as many teams/fans would)!

Seriously, I understand the rams being so deep at the position, but how in the hell does he clear waivers?

How does one pressure in every 8.5 pass rushes against TC fodder OL compare?

The Houston Texans and defensive end J.J. Watt have reached agreement on a new six-year deal that could pay him $100 million, league sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

The deal, which starts this season, will pay Watt a guaranteed $51.8 million, the most for a defensive player in the history of the NFL. The $16.6 million annual value also is the highest for a defensive player.

Watt, the 11th selection in the 2011 draft and the 2012 defensive player of the year, said in August that he hoped he had earned a new contract.

"With the new [collective bargaining agreement], I think one of the goals was to make guys earn their pay," Watt said. "No more big paydays up front. Make guys go out there and play, show that they've earned it.

"So I think when a team gives a big contract after the third year, they're saying, 'Listen, we think you've earned this.' I don't know if [the Texans] feel that way or not, but I sure hope I've put in all the work, and I've put in everything I can do to hopefully earn it."

Also in August, Texans owner Bob McNair said the team would redo Watt's deal "early" if it made sense for the team. However, he added that the team would be willing to use the franchise tag on Watt after the 2015 season (the final year of the DE's rookie deal), twice if necessary.

The Texans had picked up a fifth-year option on his contract in May that locked him in at a salary of $6.969 million for the 2015 season.

The Houston Chronicle first reported the parties had reached agreement Monday night.

Watt, one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL and perhaps the best interior lineman in a 3-4 system, said last month that he wouldn't hold out to force the Texans to renegotiate his contract.

"That would cause me to miss time with my teammates," he said. "Right now, I want to practice. I want to be out here with these young guys. I want to teach them things that I know. I want to better myself. And it hasn't really come to that. I want to be a Houston Texan. I want to play football, I want to be the best I can be. I can't do that by sitting on my couch. I want to come out here and help my team.

"The business side of things is the business side. Right now I'm in football mode, so I worry about that. If the time comes that I need to get involved in the business side, I will."

Both sides wanted Watt in Houston for as long as possible.

"I sure would like to be," Watt said previously. "I love the fans that we have. I love the relationship we have. The city is so great. The way that they've treated myself and my family, I couldn't ask for a better place to play."

Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker has been suspended four games for use of amphetamines, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Welker was excused from practice Aug. 20-21 to attend his appeal hearing, sources told ESPN Senior NFL Analyst Chris Mortensen.

Welker returned to the practice field Monday as he continues through the NFL's concussion protocol. Welker suffered his third concussion since Nov. 17 during the preseason.

The wide receiver had not been cleared for contact and was still a question mark for Sunday night's regular-season opener against the Indianapolis Colts. Monday's appearance on the practice field was his first since he suffered a concussion Aug. 23.

Welker's suspension is a huge blow to the Broncos' receiving game. Last season only four wide receivers caught passes for Denver and nearly 60 percent of those receptions will not be on the field in Week 1, as Eric Decker is now with the Jets and Welker is suspended, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

I would have lost a shit-ton of money on that ever happening.
Seriously, Welker had me buffaloed.
NEVER would have suspected that from him.
Its kind of nice to get reminded that really, nothing is ever "for sure".
What a nut punch. Always came across as a boy scout. He had me suckered.

Love it

One of the questions that will come up with Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees for the next few years will be when they plan to retire.

They've answered in different ways. Brees said he wants to play until he's 45. Manning has admitted he knows he's in the final stage of his career but doesn't have a set plan on when he'll walk away. But Brady gave the best answer of all, on his weekly radio appearance with WEEI's "Dennis & Callahan" show:

"When I suck, I’ll retire," Brady said, via the Boston Globe. "But I don’t plan on sucking for a long time."

Brees and Manning have just this year left at a high level

IMO

As for Welker, never was a big fan

I know he has great stats but sucks in big games

It seems like Steve Young should be in there somewhere. Also, Dan Fouts might be worthy of consideration. He started prior to 1978, but all of his playoff appearances and pro-bowl selections came after that.

I know he won championships, but was never a big Aikman fan. Like Emmit, he was in the right place at the right time. I guess people could argue he didn't put up big stats because he'd never have too, and he made plays when he had to. But I don't think he was in the same lead physically as many of those guys.

I'd put Brees over Marino, Kelly and Moon. His stats were just as big, but wond the big one too.

Someone was reading off Jim Kelly's playoff stats (I think it was entire playoffs, but maybe just Super Bowl), but they were suprisingly bad.

Good calls guys

Steve Young should be on the list
Yup, Brees is too low

I overrate Aikman because he really upped his game in the playoffs

Really good call on Kelly

Postseason

21 TDs
28 INTs
72 QB rating

After watching Seattle dismantle GB tonight, it looks like GB just doesn't have the pieces for a deep playoff run. Their OLine seems woefully thin, and their defense looks mediocre - missed tackles, vulnerable to run and pass. That doesn't seem like a recipe for success.

Yup, I greatly overrated them

Next up - the Saints

I think they are the only other team in the NFC that can beat Seattle unless SF gets all their convicts in line in time for the playoffs

Harvin did it all in front of the frenzied CenturyLink Field crowd, catching seven passes for 59 yards, rushing for 41 yards on four carries and running back three kickoffs for 60 yards. If you're counting, that is 160 yards on 14 touches.

STUD

Absolute stud.

At least this time, after departing with a stud - they replaced him with a stud of equal if not greater value.

It was a lot harder losing Moss and dealing with the 'good riddance's' when the replacement was Williamson.

Now, even though Harvin is gone, and people still think he can piss up a rope, it doesn't matter - CP is special.

I think Patterson has more potential as a WR due to his size and more natural WR skills

Now we have to turn that potential into production

Indy should easily win their division, but that isn't saying a whole lot due to how weak that division looks overall. They've also got the easiest schedule based on opposing teams records from last year. However, they seem to be lacking some pieces yet to make a SB run. Their 2013 offense/defense stats weren't particularly impressive (15th in yardage on offense, 20th in yardage on defense). They very well might end up with a solid win-loss record, only to be exposed in the playoffs as somewhat of a paper tiger.

The mistake was trying to replace Moss at all. He was an unreal talent. You weren't going to replace that, so trying was a fool's errand. They drafted to replace Moss and forgot to check if "hewhohearsfootsteps" could actually catch a football.

I was on Luck's bandwagon after he beat Seattle but in the playoffs he threw a ton of bad passes and picks

Can't do that and be the best
