A fighting behind the jab Mike Tyson? I don't think George would have been able to hit him clean. Mike had good foot work way back in the day. George was stationary as hell, just a big ol clubber type dude.

It worked for that era. Wouldn't have against a mobile, agile and hostile dude with power.


Again, I disagree. Tyson was not much finesse. He came right at you and tried to take you out. The best Tyson comp is Joe Frazier, which is a high compliment. Tyson had the same problem Frazier and all other fighters who couldn't stick and run had with Foreman. He was just too damn big and powerful and it was very hard to hurt him. Tyson would have to trade punches with him at some point and it would have gone about as well as it went for Frazier and Ken Norton. Those are two hall of famers that Foreman knocked out 3 times in 7 total rounds.

Status: offline 		I never watched much boxing, but I did watch that Foreman vs. Holyfield fight as well as Foreman's later win over Moorer. Those performances plus his charismatic personality make him my favorite boxer.

I'll never forget Joe Frazier (one of the toughest fighters who ever lived and a Boxing Hall of Famer) entering the ring as heavy favorite against upstart George Foreman and being beaten like a rented mule. Knocked down 6 times in 2 rounds before the ref finally stepped. It should have been stopped after the second one. It's a tribute to Frazier's amazing toughness that he wobbled to his feet after every one.

Was Virgil Hill's fame limited to North Dakota and a small pocket of NW Minnesota? He was a god where I grew up. Doesn't seem like I ever hear anything about him these days. I think he was a very underrated fighter.

Ngannou had 2 minutes of fight in him. Then, all Stipe. Some of the best takedowns I have ever seen in the HW class.

Ngannou, one of the most physically impressive cats I have ever witnessed. Stipe turned him into butter.

Status: offline 		Last night I watched a couple undefeated fighters match up in a title fight down in Corpus Christi. Gilberto Ramirez controlled the action and dominated Ahmed. The fight was stopped in the 6th round by Ahmed's corner. He was a punching bag for the last 3 rounds. Honestly was thinking the ref should have stopped it much earlier. He couldn't defend himself. His head snapped back violently one time. Wouldn't be surprised if he has permanent neck and head damage. Does Ramirez have any competition in his class? Dude looks dominant and is one of the finest fighters I've ever seen. I don't think he spent a split second with his back near the ropes. Anyone else see the fight last night? What do you guys think of Ramirez?

I watched the fight as well. Ramirez is a good, young fighter. However, he fights around the 168/175 weight classes; there is a ton of competition there. His promoter will just have to match him

The good thing is with the exception of Badou Jack, there are no legit PBC fighters in those weight classes. So, matchmaking and negotiating shouldn't be an issue.

I was 12. Boxing was just hitting its PPV stride. Mike Tyson's Punch Out was the hottest video game on the market. The result of the Buster fight only raised Tyson's profile. Punch Out remains one of the best video games ever produced.

That's how long his fights lasted.
WHEN he was focused.
Could have given any other guy in his weight class a bat during those focused days, money was still on Tyson.
He was a destroyer, not a fighter. We were fortunate he never killed anyone (in the ring)

Status: offline 		People were afraid of Tyson. They were psyched out long before the fight began. Once the fear went away, mostly due to age, though Holyfield never feared him, his aura was finished. And the Mike Tyson that was left wasn't a great fighter anymore.

I wish I had gotten to see Mike Tyson with Cus D'amatto and Kevin Rooney through all of the 90s. He'd have a very different legacy. I'm not sure he would have EVER lost.

Status: online 		During the peak of Tyson's career, there was nothing in the heavyweight ranks at all. Pure garbage division. Holyfield ushered in an improved era of the heavyweight division. I said before and I will say until the day I die, the young version of George Foreman would have beat Tyson like a rented mule. Tyson was Joe Frazier with a jab. The problem for him is that Foreman had a much longer reach and was very adept at standing his opponents up and measuring them. Tyson's jab wouldn't have been effective. Like Murf said, bigger, meaner son of a bitch.
