Tourney starts tomorrow. Go Huskies and good luck to Minnesota State and Minnesota Dulute. One of them will make the Frozen Four unless Air Force the bottom seed in the Tournament upsets all of them.

Question: We seem to have fans for every Minnesota Hockey School except Minnesota State Mankato? Is there anybody out there fan?

bgdavis is a big Mankato State fan.

But I don't think they have much of a following because they are generally seen as a chippy/dirty team.

bgdavis is a big Mankato State fan.

They are the highest scoring team in the land. SCSU actually shut them out 4-0 at Mankato second game of the season. Next time in St. Cloud Mankato won 5-2. To be honest they scare me.
Hopefully the St. Cloud D can contain them.

OK I just read up on Lucia leaving and of course Bob Motzko is the first name on a short list of candidates to replace him. Motzko is the current NCAA Hockey Coach of the Year. I'm guessing that Minnesota can and will offer him a lot more money than SCSU.

The Gophers are replacing a head coach for the first time in almost 20 years.

Minnesota has had five head coaches since 1972, though that number will soon be six. Former head coach Don Lucia stepped down Tuesday, which opened up the role for the first time since 1999.

It is now up to athletics director Mark Coyle to find a replacement; here are some names he could consider. There have been no official reports of the athletics program reaching out to any potential replacements thus far.

Bob Motzko - current head coach of St. Cloud State

Bob Motzko is a familiar face for Minnesota. Motzko was an assistant coach under Lucia from 2001-05, helping Minnesota to its first two national championships since 1979. After his time at Minnesota, he moved to his alma mater, St. Cloud State, where he has coached for the last 13 years.

Motzko has had one of his most successful seasons with the Huskies in 2017-18. He led the team to sit at No. 1 in the nation for much of the season, and kept them in contention to get a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament that starts Friday.

Motzko also coached the last two World Junior Championship teams for the United States. The team won gold in 2017 and Motzko coached Gophers forward Casey Mittelstadt on the 2018 team.

In an interview with the St. Cloud Times on Tuesday, Motzko declined to comment on the Gophers' opening.

I heard Motzko has had NHL interviews too...so there is that. PA was talking to Michaletti today or yesterday and stated he thought Motko had to be in the lead.

Can you say Air Force! The empty net goal for the dagger, while the goalie is stuck in no mans land on his way to the bench.....
St Cloud doesn't do very well in the tourney that's for sure. I'm putting my hopes in UMD now.

I was up at 3.30 this morning to watch the Huskies... They were flat out awful.
They looked flat and AF took the game to them.
By the time they started to get it going a bit they were down 0-2.
The first two AF goals came from turnovers which never... never EVER should have happened. Turn the puck over right in front of goal. Goalie had NO chance.
Very frustrating to watch and disappointing to see.
I do wonder sometimes if it would help them to play on the kiddie size rink as they just seem to struggle on the smaller ice.

Good season - horrible end to it though.
Hopefully they don't lose too much this year and they come back strong next year.
I'll be watching again next year.

Interesting to see how awful you thought they played. All that matters in the end is how many go in the net, but we did dominate the shots on goal. I was at work unable to watch.

St Cloud played okay, but just okay wasn't going to cut it today. Air Force was relentless on the forecheck and really exposed their defense, causing give aways all game.

He KG.... they just did not look like they were assertive. I kind of expected they would come out and really try to dominate.

They were sloppy on the D side of things too. Not as sharp as they had been during the year.

From about the 10 minute mark of the second period they seemed to really get things going... but they were down 0-2 and AF just stayed solid.

No two ways about it.... Air Force won this game. They played to their strengths and took advantage of SCSU turnovers to score the 2 goals.

Hope they keep people and they come back strong.

Keep well fellow SCSU fan.

How many chances are we going to have at a National Title. Two years ago we were the second seed and lost in the first round. This year we were the #1 seed and lost in the first round. Will we do it right next year?

I'm way worse than that. The regular season is so long and we play so well to be the clear #1 seed in the nation, only to lose in the freaking first round of the tourney. If you don't know how painful that is. Teams need to take advantage of their opportunities. You can't expect to be a top 2 seed in the nation all that often. I do take some consolation from knowing that the regular season best is far harder to accomplish than the tourney title, but it isn't much consolation.
