I mentioned a while back that he's exactly the type of guy United should have went after. It would have showed they cared. I have no doubts he wouldn't have come (I said LA or NY, I think) but it would have at least showed me they were interested in winning at all cost.

Maybe they just decided to put their energies into guys who would actually come here. Does it really send a message if you make a show of pursuing a guy you know won't come here under any circumstances? With that said, I would like to see them go after more guys who are at least in the Quintero class of player.

That was just my personal feelings on it. If they knew, and pursued it anyway, then yes, that is idiotic.

I would hope they at least inquired. Heath seems to be talking big on his intent to add more offensive talent while some transaction window is open. I really don't understand how these windows work, but he is at least talking a good game at this point. Let's see if it comes to any fruition.

They are called Transfer Window's. They are the same as trade deadlines with 2 major differences. They have a window before the season starts and then runs a bit in to the season. Then it shuts. You can't do anymore deals. It'll then open a gain for a bit towards the end of the season so you can make changes for the final push.

The other major difference is that you don't have to send other players in the deal. If you work out terms with the player and the team, they will sell him outright. This is how Europe does it. I'm sure the MLS is the same.

It looks like they can theoretically go work out a deal with any player from any team in the world.

Peruvian Alexi Gomez is coming to the Loons on a loan with the option to buy deal. He has played for both the Peruvian U20 and senior national teams. Heath describes him as a "set piece taker" that the team needs. I hope Jeff can translate that for me.

Free kicks (direct and indirect). He'll also probably take corners. Think of the guy that tries to score over the wall when play stops. Some guys can hit the corners with pace and some can't (they blast it in to the wall or nowhere near the goal).

For balls that are too far away to try and score directly, you need someone who can pin point a ball at the right trajectory and with enough pace. It's a tough skill to master.

According to Heath, Gomez can do that from any position on the left side and from the center mid field.

Lost to Portland, but good to see Quintero score in his first game with the Loons.

Ethan Finlay tears his ACL and is out for the year. Another starter down.

Somehow San Jose has a -21 goal differential, but a 13-14 record. Interesting. How have they done it?

It looks like Murf messed up his sweep attempt because he did not post on the soccer threads! Rookie mistake by a veteran.

Like I said in the other thread, I didn’t go for the sweep.
I was merely laying down some foundation in case, and for when I actually Went for the sweep.
Knock out some low hanging fruit you might say.

Darwin Quintero with Minnesota's first major league soccer hat trick, leads the Loons past the defending champs, Toronto, 4-3. I was impressed. All 3 were on identical kicks from both sides of the net. Just tucked a high arching finesse kick into the far upper corner.

Even I can see that this guy is at a skill level way beyond any of his teammates. It looked like Heath decided to scrap the whole Quintero being the facilitator plan and told him to fire at will.

I'm waiting for a Jeff Jesser take on what Quintaro has done with MN United so far. Last night he scored his 10th goal, which moves him into the top 10 in the league. He has accomplished this, along with 6 assists, in only 16 games. I think Quintaro is the kind of player Jeff has been harping on them to sign from the beginning.

I have surprisingly watched a fair amount of Loons soccer this year and he is a real difference from the kind of player they typically sign. With my limited knowledge of the game he looks like the best player out there for either team almost every game. A sure sign is what happened last night. An LA player got so frustrated by him that he grabbed Quintaro and threw him down from behind, drawing a yellow card. That shit means you have residence in the other guy's head, no matter what the sport.

United added two more players that are supposed to be around the same level. They just joined the team.

I haven't seen him play but those #'s speak for themselves. I just looked it up and they are -7 in goal differential. That says a lot about how much the kid means to the team. I'm still surprised they haven't brought in 1 single "name" to draw interest. How are attendance numbers?

I think they pretty well sell out all the time. It looks like they are trying to ramp it up a little as they prepare to move into the new stadium nest year. Quintaro was the first of 3 higher profile signings. Angelo Rodriguez is another recent designated player signing from Columbia. He is supposed to be another big scorer, but hasn't played yet. Romario Ibarra is a 23 year old from the Ecuadorian National team who just got his first game action last night.

I didn't watch any World Cup. But I heard a lot of talk about penalty kicks deciding too many games. From what I heard, it's a stupid way to decide a game because all the goalkeeper does is guess left or right, and dive that way. So my question is, if the goalkeeper is gonna dive left or right every time, why not just kick it right down the middle? Goal every time, right?

Hey, you haven't asked if the stadium is close to the light rail in quite a while.
