Meh, 3 star recruit out of high school. He played one year at USC in 2017 and had 2 receptions before sitting out 2018 to transfer. Probably wouldn't have been in the top 4 receivers for the Gophers this year. That position got pretty deep in the last couple of years.

The corner, who enrolled in January and transferred out at the end of April was king of the same thing. He was outside the top 4 corners on the depth chart.

Looks like Fleck shook off the de-commitments pretty quickly. He just landed a 4 star, who is his 13 commit in 11 days.

Gophers football adds four-star St. Louis athlete to 2020 recruiting class

PUBLISHED: June 25, 2019 at 11:38 am | UPDATED: June 25, 2019 at 11:38 am

The Gophers football program received a verbal commitment from St. Louis athlete Itayvion Brown, he announced Tuesday on Twitter.

Brown is the 21st member of Minnesota’s 2020 recruiting class and the 13th pledge in the last 11 days. Brown was given a four-star rating by rivals.com and three stars by 247sports.com.

“I will be continuing (my) academic and athletic career at the University of Minnesota!! RTB!!” Brown said.

Brown had an impressive and extensive offer list, including Louisiana State, Texas A&M, Florida State, Mississippi, Iowa, Michigan State, Purdue, Texas Christian and more. The Gophers were one of the first schools to offer Brown a scholarship last December.

Brown, a linebacker and receiver, plays at the same school, Lutheran North, as U true freshman defensive lineman D’Vion Harris. When Harris committed to Minnesota in April 2018, Brown tweeted, “Congrats to my brother! You (going to) do great things up there.”

Brown committed after an “unbelievable” official visit to the U last week, he tweeted Thursday. He then took a visit to Kansas before joining Minnesota’s class.

Gophers receive commitment from four-star receiver from Kansas

By ANDY GREDER | agreder@pioneerpress.com | Pioneer Press
June 30, 2019 at 8:16 pm

The Gophers football program received a verbal commitment from Kansas wide receiver Daniel Jackson, he announced Sunday on Twitter.

Jackson has a four-star ranking by multiple recruiting services, including No. 216 in the ESPN300. Among the 22 commits in Minnesota’s 2020 recruiting class, Jackson is the new highest-ranked commit and comes on the heels of the previous best, Itayvion Brown, a four-star athlete who pledged on Tuesday.

“I am excited to announce that I will be committing to The University of Minnesota,” Jackson wrote in message on Twitter.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound receiver from Bishop Miege High School in Mission, Kan., is considered one of the best recruits in that state. He had other scholarships from Iowa, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Iowa State and others.

Jackson visited Madison, Wis., Ames, Iowa, and Minneapolis in recent weeks. After he visited Dinkytown, he tweeted in June, “Thank you @GopherFootball for a live weekend!! This really is a special place.”

This is what I don't get about the whole thing. We exceeded expectations and won a surprisingly high level bowl game. We did it with the youngest team in the nation. None of our QB's had ever played a college football game. We had 3 true freshmen and 1 red shirt freshman on our starting O-line. Our two best running backs missed the season. We had the top receiver in the Big Ten. How does that all translate to finishing 6 out of 7 this year?

Those QB's now each have half a season's worth of starts under their belts. That O-line is now bigger and more experienced. Shannon Brooks and Rodney Smith are back to go with Ibraham in the backfied. We have one of the best receiving groups in the Big Ten. We have a bunch of kids who know how to win a bowl game. What am I missing?

No, in fact, the team has gotten healthier.

The overall balance of the West. You could make an argument for really anyone of the teams winning the West.
Wisconsin has the best RB, Iowa or Nebraska the QB. Northwestern is the defending Champ. Purdue has probably the most explosive offensive player. I don't think Illinois can win the Division, but anyone else can.

Doesn't sound like this is a short term situation. They didn't get specific about the injury, but Fleck's comments kind of indicate he will be out for a while.

I really agree with you. I think our oline might be a year away but they are going to push some teams right out of the building.

We are going to sneek up on some teams and being an under dog helps.

WR Rashod Bateman on the decision to come to MN.

quote:

“When you’re down south and you hear Minnesota, you just think about cold,” Bateman said. “But when you actually get up here and visit, you realize it’s a really nice place to be, and it’s fun place to be. And once you get into these coaching staffs and get around the facility, it’s kind of hard to say no here.”

I know it's just one rosy quote from one guy, but this bodes well for the program. It's a sign of a healthy competitive recruiting environment. A statement like this would not have been possible for most of Gopher football existence

Damn it would be nice to have a season finally
Not a whee-we-beat-Wiscy season
I'm talking holy-shit-we're-ranked-in-the-top-10 season.
Northwestern does it.
Iowa does it.
Wisconsin does it.
Do it. It's way past time.

Former Gopher QB Demry Croft charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual battery in Tennessee. For someone who preached building on a foundation of bricks, not sand and emphasizing the quality of the young man over physical skills, Jerry Kill sure recruited his share of problem children.

And yet he still goes after Fleck for having the audacity to say he intends to change the culture. A gang rape in Minneapolis, another ex recruit committing rape in Tennessee, I think the culture needed a little changing.

Here's a quote from Tennessee coach Rod Reed on Croft.

quote:

"You always talk to the guys about these type things," Reed said. "Unfortunately they happen. You try to keep them coached up on it the best you can. Sometimes things just happen, you can't explain. But it is what it is right now, we've got to move forward. It's only a week before the (first) game, so next man up."

In Tennessee, apparently players have to be 'coached up' to not rape people.

Pretty damn quiet for ….. GAME WEEK!

My nearby Jackrabbits get the op this week to take down the mighty mighty Gophers
They are better than you think, Gopher fans.
Better be ready.

Should the Gophs kill em?
Sure
Will they?
That's always the rub.
