Thank goodness the NHL has returned to Minnesota, the state of hockey. Though this should really be about the Minnesota Wild, the people of Minnesota have a grudge against Norm Green that will never go away.

The owner of the Minnesota North Stars relocated his team to Dallas in 1993 for several reasons. Attendance was poor, and the team could not lure corporate sponsors or reach a deal for a new arena in the Twin Cities. Green was also hit with a sexual harassment suit by a Minnesota employee around the same time as he moved the team; it was settled out of court. It felt especially cruel that Minnesota had to watch the Dallas Stars win the Stanley Cup six years later. Though Minnesota was quickly awarded an expansion franchise, the Wild have yet to win a Cup.

My memory is that attendance was not poor at all. Am I wrong?

Eh, I think there's something to that. People recall only the good times, But for such a hockey crazy state, I remember there being many nights with sagging attendance. I could be wrong. But the North Stars were not always the hot ticket like Wild are now at Xcel.

And even if true, Norm should have taken his share of blame for not marketing his team properly, instead of just packing up and leaving. He took the fans for granted.

I still think it was the sexual harassment suit more than anything that did it. He was just pissed off and embarrassed and wanted a fresh start in a new market.

I'm not saying every game was a sell out, but it was mostly full or full most of the time IIRC. I think the sexual Harassment suit did play a large part.

"They", as in Green's people.
I went to a lot of games those years, I really can't argue.
Playoff games were nuts, of course, but yeah, regular season, … I'd say 60% capacity was fairly easy to believe.

Maybe that’s the curse of having a knowledgeable fan base. They realize when they’re being fed shitty hockey and Will only come out when the team deserves it.

Some may call that fair weather fans. I call it fans with decent common sense.

I remember some friends and I walking to the ticket window at the old Chicago Stadium and buying tickets that were 12 rows off the ice. That was during the Dollar Bill era and his brilliant HawkVision idea. The Hawks were an awful fan experience for several years.

Iowa Wild sniper Gerry Mayhew has been named the American Hockey League’s most valuable player for the 2019-20 season.

The honor is well-deserved for Mayhew, who scored a league-best 39 goals, the most by an AHL skater since the 2011-12 season. That prolific performance helped the Iowa Wild put together the best regular season in franchise history.

He also established a recognizable brand in Des Moines with the hashtag #GerryTime emerging as a popular trend on social media.

In addition to his AHL dominance, Mayhew scored a goal in his NHL debut on Oct. 15 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played 13 games for the Minnesota Wild this season, though he struggled to have the impact he had in the minors.

Originally from a suburb of Detroit, the 27-year-old Mayhew played collegiately at Ferris State University before turning pro and signing a minor league contract with the Iowa Wild. He later signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Minnesota Wild.

Wild prospect Kaapo Kahkonen turned some heads during his cup of coffee in the NHL this season, proving he might have what it takes to take over for veteran Devan Dubnyk in the net at some point.

That said, Kahkonen’s most impressive work was done in the minors, as he dominated between the pipes to lead the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League to the best record in franchise history.

For his efforts, the 23-year-old Kahkonen on Tuesday earned the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award, which annually goes to the AHL’s best goaltender.

A fourth-round draft pick in 2014, Kahkonen led the AHL in wins this season, finishing with a 25-6-3 record, a 2.07 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. He also boasted 3-1-1 record, 2.96 goals-against average and .913 save percentage while playing for the Minnesota Wild.

Some past notable winners of the award include Dwayne Roloson (2001), Ryan Miller (2005), Cory Schneider (2009) and Matt Murray (2015).

Iowa Wild goalie Kaapo Kahkonen, defenseman Brennan Menell and forwards Sam Anas and Gerry Mayhew were named to the 2019-20 American Hockey League First and Second All-Star Teams.

Kahkonen, Menell and Anas received first-team honors, while Mayhew landed on the Second All-Star Team. Voting was done by AHL coaches, players, and media in each of the league’s 31 cities.

Not only did Kahkonen post a league-high 25 wins and seven shutouts, but his goals-against average (2.07) and save percentage (.927) also ranked among the best in the AHL. Overall, he went 25-6-3.

Menell’s 42 assists were tops among AHL defensemen, and his 47 points finished second. Anas led the AHL in assists (50) and points (70), and Mayhew scored a league-high 39 goals.

Mayhew, Menell and Kahkonen also made their NHL debuts during the season with the Wild.

Each All-Star Team member will receive a custom designed crystal award.

The AHL canceled the remainder of its season last week after initially suspending play on March 12 amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Wild’s affiliate finished 37-18-4-4, with its 82 points tying for the second-most in the league. Iowa’s 37 wins tied the franchise record.

Status: offline 		Watching Game 7 of the 2003 Wild playoff series vs Colorado. I remember watching this series. I see now we had no business winning this game. But congrats to the former Wild players for pulling it out! Very un-Minnesotan.

The team that will pick No. 1 overall in the 2020 NHL Draft went unidentified during the NHL Draft Lottery on Friday night.
That's because one of the 16 teams set to participate in the NHL's play-in round for the retooled Stanley Cup Playoffs will receive the No. 1 overall pick, a lottery outcome that had only a 2.5 percent chance of happening. Per TSN's Frank Seravalli, each of the eight teams eliminated in the opening round will have an equal 12.5 percent chance in "a second lottery draw to be conducted at a later date." The announced Phase 1 lottery results: 1. TBD, 2. Los Angeles Kings, 3. Ottawa Senators, 4. Detroit Red Wings, 5. Ottawa Senators, 6. Anaheim Ducks, 7. New Jersey Devils, 8. Buffalo Sabres. Status: online 		The prize is Alexis Lafreniere, who is supposed to be a generational talent. He is already being compared to Sid the Kid and Connor McDavid.

No matter how the playoff series shakes out, this is supposed to be an incredibly deep draft. It's a real good year to have that extra pick in the first round from Pittsburgh.

Status: offline 		The NHL hub cities are Las Vegas and Toronto. Those are the last 2 cities they should be choosing if they want to keep the players as quarantined as possible. BETTMAN!!!
