If they literally can't field a team in the next handful of days, then they'd probably have to.

But I think you're probably getting way ahead of yourself.

Also, this is a Ewen level post of misinformation and fear-mongering.

Here is the real story:

After receiving inconclusive COVID-19 test results today for players from the Seattle Storm, the WNBA announced that Game 1 of the WNBA Semifinals between the Seattle Storm and the Minnesota Lynx has been postponed out of an abundance of caution.

League protocol treats inconclusive tests as positive tests to protect players, coaches and personnel. And to prevent the spread of the virus throughout its bubble community. There must be two negative tests more than 24 hours between each other for the player to be cleared.

The WNBA has had a few instances of inconclusive tests while in the bubble. Los Angeles Sparks rookie Te’a Cooper had to sit out a game after a test came back inconclusive as did Las Vegas Aces guard Lindsay Allen. They were each cleared with negative tests within the day.

A few players tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival at the facility. They were quarantined and did not return to their teams until they had multiple negative tests.

The WNBA postseason is scheduled out through the finals. Game 2 is scheduled to take place on Tuesday with Game 3 on Thursday evening.

There will need to be two negative tests before players are cleared to return to the team and play. If those are taken Sunday and Monday, they would get results for them on Monday and Tuesday. It would theoretically clear them to play Tuesday evening in the same spot as scheduled, but only as Game 1.

Napheesa Collier was incandescent. She put the team on her back in only her third career playoff game. Doing most of her work in the second half Collier finished with 25 points, nine rebounds, six blocks, three assists and four three pointers. She became the first player in Lynx franchise history to record five blocks in a single quarter. Three of those blocks were administered within a span of 75 second to 2020 WNBA MVP runner-up Breanna Stewart. Collier is the most important player for the post-dynasty Lynx. To see her rise to the occasion in a high-level playoff game is further confirmation that she is among the league’s elite players and a cornerstone for the franchise moving forward.

Lynx will bolster backcourt in 2021 with addition of Kayla McBride
Kayla McBride is a three-time WNBA All Star – in 2015, 2018 and 2019.

The Lynx have made a huge upgrade to their backcourt.

A league source confirmed reports that veteran free agent shooting guard Kayla McBride agreed to terms with the Lynx. Signings cannot be announced until Monday.

McBride also posted to her Instagram account a report of the agreement.

"After talking with coach Reeve and the Minnesota Staff, I know this is where I'm going to take my game to the next level," McBride posted.

The 5-10 McBride, the third overall pick in the 2014 draft by the San Antonio Stars — now the Las Vegas Aces — has started 192 of 195 games in her career, averaging 14.7 points, 2.4 assists and 3.4 rebounds. She is a career 36.7% shooter on three-pointers.

McBride is a three-time WNBA All Star — in 2015, 2018 and 2019. In college at Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish made the NCAA Final Four four times.

McBride is expected to start, and she makes the Lynx backcourt deeper and more talented. Minnesota already has reigning rookie of the year Crystal Dangerfield at the point. Odyssey Sims — an All Star in 2019 — can play either guard spot. Both Rachal Banham and Lexie Brown saw significant time last season as well.

This is a big free addition to a Lynx team that is still transitioning from its WNBA championship years. In the WNBA bubble last season at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., the Lynx went 14-8 and finished fourth in the league, earning a first-round playoff bye. After defeating Phoenix in the second round the Lynx lost to eventual champion Seattle in the league semifinals.

The Lynx have qualified for the playoffs in 10 straight seasons, the second-longest streak in league history.

Also BIG news:

Two-time WNBA MVP Candace Parker has committed to play for the Chicago Sky after 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks, sources told ESPN.

Parker, who was drafted at No. 1 in 2008, is an unrestricted free agent. Free-agent players can begin signing with their new teams on Monday.

While the Sparks did try to retain the reigning Defensive Player of the Year who helped them win the WNBA title in 2016, the opportunity to return to her hometown of Chicago and play in front of friends and family for the last portion of her career was too appealing for her to pass up.

Its beyond impressive.

They suddenly lost arguably the best player in the league, grabbed the Rookie of the Year with the 6th pick and still made the Playoffs.

They next year their remaining best player only played in 7 games. So they grabbed the next Rookie of the Year with the 16th pick and made the Final 4.

Lynx a major player in free agency, will add Natalie Achonwa and Aerial Powers
The news comes the day after the team landed three time WNBA All-Star Kayla McBride.

One day after coming to terms with free agent shooting guard and three-time WNBA All Star Kayla McBride, the Minnesota Lynx landed her old Notre Dame teammate.

The Associated Press reported Thursday 6-3 post player Natalie Achonwa, who has played her entire WNBA career in Indiana, has agreed to a free-agent contract to come to Minnesota.

And Yahoo! Sports reported guard Aerial Powers will also be joining the Lynx this season.

No deals can be announced until Monday.

The 27-year-old Powers averaged 16.3 points in the bubble last season for Washington, but was limited to six games because of a hamstring injury.

The Achonwa move appears to have more to do with depth. Achonwa was drafted out of Notre Dame in 2014 — the same year as McBride — by Indiana with the ninth overall pick, but she missed that season due to injury.

Since then she has appeared in 168 games, starting 97, averaging 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds. She would likely back up center Sylvia Fowles or starting power forward Damiris Dantis. She would appear to be a replacement for Kayla Alexander, Fowles' backup last season, who is an unrestricted free agent.

Coach and General Manager Cheryl Reeve has some room to work with because so many players — including key performers like Napheesa Collier, Crystal Dangerfield, Jessica Shepard and Mikiah Herbert-Harrigan — are still on their initial rookie contracts.

The decision to trade Mikiah Herbert Harrigan to Seattle was not an easy one.

Lynx General Manager and coach Cheryl Reeve thinks Herbert Harrigan, taken by the Lynx with the sixth pick in the 2020 draft, will improve during her WNBA career.

"As we told Kiki, we still believe in her,'' Reeve said. "This move has nothing to do with what she did. This is about what happened in free agency, which triggered some of these movements.''

The Lynx got a first-round pick in the 2022 draft for Herbert Harrigan. The draft choice originally belonged to Phoenix.

The 6-2 Herbert Harrigan came to the Lynx after a stellar career at South Carolina. Coming off the bench in 21 games as a rookie, she averaged 11.1 minutes, 3.8 points and 2.3 rebounds.

But the Lynx needed room on the roster.

Early in free agency the Lynx signed veterans Kayla McBride and Natalie Achonwa. The team has also come to an agreement with Washington wing Aerial Powers. Add to that the fact that, in 2021, the Lynx will likely go with an 11-player roster – the roster was 12 last year – and moves had to be made. The Lynx sent Erica McCall to Washington for a future draft pick last week. Now Herbert Harrigan is headed to Seattle.

"We think she'll do well,'' Reeve said. "It will be a good situation for her. Free agency led us down a different path. As I told her, I don't want her buried on our bench.''

The Lynx are very deep in players able to play the forward positions, with Damiris Dantas and Napheesa Collier as the starters. McBride will very likely play a good amount of time at small forward. Plus, Reeve has Bridget Carleton and, if healthy, Jessica Shepard coming off the bench.

There will be a lot of competition for the final spot or two on the roster, which will include the ninth pick in this year's draft.

That means the Lynx are likely not done making room by making moves. But for now the Lynx have added a pick in the 2022 draft, one Reeve thinks will be very good.

Its amazing the amount of quality depth we've amassed since losing Maya, Lindsay, Seimone and Rebekkah.

That's 4 of the starters from the 2017 Championship team.

Reeve really has done an amazing job. When you amass enough talent that you don't have playing time for someone like Herbert Harrigan, you're clearly very good at your job. Worth noting is that the 1st round pick will come from Phoenix, not Seattle.

This move gives Minnesota the needed salary slot for the reported signing of Aerial Powers, as teams can only have 6 guaranteed contracts. Sims’ contract was the casualty.
