Ranked teams are going to destroy the women Gophers this year
There's a facet missing on the team, evident when you watch for awhile imo

There are a lot facets missing on this team. It starts with communication at both ends of the floor and that's on the coaches.

Lindsay's good will is going to run out fast at this rate.

Another case of those "if she could only play for them" deals.
Great players have to be driven crazy sometimes by coaching those who can't do what they could.

Great players don't always make great coaches. I just hope Lindsay doesn't fall into that category. I'd like to believe that in her on going legacy, the best is yet to come.

It will hard for her to find players like her. Women who play basketball with a hockey player's mentality.

Well, it took OT against a bad Wisconsin team, but the Gophers got their first conference win. Hopefully this will give them a little spark and a little confidence. Right now this team just flat out can't shoot or play defense. You won't win many games being out shot 39% to 58%.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but the Gopher women don't even look capable of winning a conference game right now. That they are still playing at this level is on Lindsay. There is no improvement at all.

I was hoping allowing transfer players to go right away would help. Nope, hasn't happened.

No chemistry. No team defense. Can't shoot to save their lives. They pretty much get dominated on the boards. It's just ugly to watch.

The team that’s been the face of women’s college basketball since the mid-90s is currently undefeated (7-0), but has had their schedule ravaged by COVID-19, like most teams playing during a pandemic. So far, at least six of UConn’s games have been canceled or postponed.

However, the games they have played have been a showcase for Bueckers who was heralded as the recruit that could end their five-year national championship drought. Up in Storrs, Connecticut, five years is an eternity, as it’s the longest they’ve gone without winning a title since their first in 1995. (And that’s a great trivia question.)

Bueckers, a 5-11 point guard, had a ton of hype surrounding her entering college due to her extensive preps resume. So far, she’s been just as good, or better, than advertised.

She currently leads UConn in points (18.9), assists (5.1), steals (2.7), 3-point percentage (50%), and minutes (34.9).

The Gophers pick up a road win at Nebraska. They finally held a team below 50% shooting and hit 47% on 3 pointers. Maybe things are slowly turning in the right direction.

How could anyone shoot 60% from 3-point range over the course of a season?!? That's not human.

Lindsay Whalen keeps mining for (maroon and) gold here at home.

The Gophers women's basketball coach added a fourth home-grown member to her 2022 recruiting class with Amaya Battle's announcement in Instagram that she had chosen the Gophers.

Battle posted a picture of herself in a Gophers uniform, with the message: "Committed."

Battle is a star guard at Hopkins; her brother, Jamison, recently transferred to the Gophers men's team from George Washington.

This gives Whalen a very strong, local 2022 class that also includes Chaska forward Mallory Heyer, Wayzata guard Mara Braun and Eden Prairie forward Nia Holloway.

Heyer, Braun and Battle are all ranked in the top 100 in the 2022 class by ESPN. This spring, the Star Tribune named Braun and Heyer to its All-Metro first team. Battle was part of the second team.

Lindsey is accomplishing what no other Gophers coach has been able to do with her 2022 class. With one exception the top Minnesota prep's are staying home to play.

Lindsay Whalen's Gophers have No. 7 women's basketball recruiting class in 2022

The Gophers women's basketball team plays an exhibition game Sunday and starts its real season in less than two weeks.

So it's not really fair to be thinking ahead to the 2022-23 season when this one is just about to start.

That said, this is college sports — where recruiting is the lifeblood of programs and dominates headlines, all while running concurrently with seasons.

It's OK to think about the present and the future at the same time. In the here and now, Lindsay Whalen's fourth season as head coach could bring a return to the NCAA tournament with 12 players coming back from a team that finished better than it started in last year's pandemic season.

A year from now, things could get even better. That's because Minnesota's incoming recruiting class of 2022 is loaded — good enough as of now to be ranked No. 7 nationally by ESPN.

The Gophers might slide down a bit on the final list once signing day arrives because some blue chip prospects have not yet made their commitments to other programs.

But Minnesota will still be very high in the rankings — as high as I can remember a Gophers basketball (men's or women's) or football team being in these types of rankings. The only comparison that springs to mind is the Gophers men's class of 2009 that included Royce White, Rodney Williams and transfer Trevor Mbakwe.

It's justified based on three players in the top 55: guards Mara Braun (28) and Amaya Battle (38) and forward Mallory Heyer (54). All three players are from Minnesota, which bodes well for Whalen winning future in-state recruiting battles as well.

At No. 7, it should be noted that the Gophers have the highest-ranked class in the Big Ten. They are only three spots below UConn and two spots below defending NCAA champion Stanford.

Whether the Gophers can transform potential into sustained progress remains to be seen, but it does appear Whalen has the program headed in the right direction.

Scoreboard didn't fall on her

But a jab step move forward around mid-court resulted in Bueckers' knee buckling. Didn't finish the Notre Dame game. Didn't look good
