Augustus had 10 pts, 8 reb, 2 ast and was +16. Yeah, that's quite a liability.

Well stated. In game three of course Augustus was MIA. I remember her being a huge part of the comeback in game one. I forget completely what she did in game two.
Whalen can no longer make a wide open jump shot.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/2/2017 7:14:23 PM)

She doesn't need to. She is a warrior that needs to get the ball in the right hands and force her will, driving the basket, when we get stale. We need Moore to make those shots in the clutch. She's the money player.

The bigs will battle. They always do, and can dominate. It's up to the "star" to match Parker and such. This is the NBA, they will make sure it close by calls. It's good TV. A blowout, either way is not what they want.

You are correct that Whalen can do other things to positively affect a game, but it is painful to watch her shoot right now. Hopefully she can find the range in game 5. That would go a long ways towards us winning another championship.

Brunson Finds Herself In Potentially Historic Position On Eve Of Game 5

http://www.wnba.com/news/brunson-finds-potentially-historic-position-eve-game-5/

"" A locker room doused in champagne holding the WNBA championship trophy. That’s where a 24-year-old Rebekkah Brunson found herself in 2005 as a member of the Sacramento Monarchs. Brunson had starred at Georgetown before being selected 10th overall in the 2004 draft by Sacramento. In just her second season, she was able to add something to her basketball résumé that many wait years for, or for some, an accomplishment that never comes: WNBA Champion.

.....

She would be joining a team that hadn’t made the playoffs since her title run back in 2005 and would be led by relatively unknown, first-year head coach Cheryl Reeve. The team finished 13-21 in Brunson’s first season in Minnesota. Another championship, let alone a trip to the postseason, seemed to be teetering in the balance.

Something clicked the next year in 2011. The team drafted heralded rookie Maya Moore out of the University of Connecticut and paired her with veteran point guard Lindsay Whalen. They sprinkled in talented scorer Seimone Augustus with the aforementioned tenacious force and championship pedigree of Brunson, and suddenly there was title talk in Minneapolis.

......

Legacy is an important word in the sports world as it goes on to define how you will be remembered in the years to come. With a win on Wednesday, the Lynx will be mentioned in the same breath as the great Comets teams that won four straight titles at the onset of the WNBA’s inception.

When the league looks back on Rebekkah Brunson, words like fearless, imposing, ferocious, and inspiring will all come to mind, but so will champion. But, if it’s the Lynx that are hoisting the championship trophy through the rainfall confetti, Brunson’s definition of champion will be in a class of one. ""

Lynx-Sparks has grown into one of best rivalries in women's basketball history

Great read on story by Romona Shelburne [sm=thumb.gif] worth the read.

http://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/20896940/minnesota-lynx-los-angeles-sparks-become-one-best-rivalries-wnba-history

.......

LOS ANGELES -- Maya Moore sat at her locker and stared off into space. She wasn't playing on her phone or eating or talking to any of her teammates after helping Minnesota to an 80-69 win over Los Angeles on Sunday evening at Staples Center to stave off elimination in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals. She was tired after yet another bone-crushing, heavyweight bout in what has become one of the best rivalries in WNBA history.

"I don't know if there's been another [rivalry] like this," Moore said.

Teammate Renee Montgomery nodded as Moore spoke.

"There hasn't," Montgomery said.

For the second straight year, the WNBA Finals between these two teams is heading to a decisive Game 5. Last year the Sparks won on a last-second, game winner by Nneka Ogwumike. The first two games in this year's series were decided by a total of three points.

In other words, these WNBA Finals have been exactly what the women's game needed after a decade of dominant teams at the college, professional and Olympic level which took some of the drama out of the sport's biggest moments. ....

....................

We say "unfortunate" because winning is never supposed to be a bad thing. Brilliant individual play and dynastic teams are how stars are made and fans are won over for life. Yet far too often in the women's game, dominance has robbed the game of the drama needed to capture the attention and imagination of the casual sports fan. ....

That's why the Lynx-Sparks rivalry is so important to the game and to the future Hall of Famers playing in it. Instead of wasting the drama of this series in a Western Conference final, the league last year smartly adjusted its playoff format so the top two teams would meet in the Finals, regardless of conference. In 2005, the league expanded the Finals to a five-game series, and the format lets the drama build as the two best teams adjust and scheme for each other. ...

"I've never [had a rivalry] like this," Beard said. "I think it's a combination of talent, how well we know each other, and the competitiveness, which is at another level." ....

Right now I don't care about the Vikings or Twins. Give me a Lynx Title and all is well. Than move on to the Wolves and the Wild.

Slow down KG...Vikes aren't done. Lots of season left.

I know Vikes aren't done, but with Cook gone for the season and already being behind both the Pack and the Lions my excitement for the Vikings is well behind the Lynx, Wolves and Wild. And SCSU hockey.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 7:19:39 PM)

Good start. LA can't buy a bucket. Whalen has a 3.

7-0.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 7:25:21 PM)

Too many turnovers...

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 7:26:07 PM)

Brunson with 8 early. Making them pay for doubling Syl.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 7:36:48 PM)

Turnovers and bad decisions turned a potential route into a 2 point lead after 1.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 7:58:57 PM)

Killing them on the offensive glass. That's helping mitigate the unforced turnovers...

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 8:02:38 PM)

Horrible sequence. 4 point possession for LA, 3rd foul on Brunson, all because 2 Lynx knocked a rebound away from each other…

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 8:06:37 PM)

We'd be up 20 with a little control on both ends...

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 8:25:43 PM)

We've started every quarter strong.

Let’s finish this one strong as well.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 8:29:10 PM)

Why do the Lynx play in the Barn vs Target?

I think they've earned a better venue.

Renovations forced them to the Barn for the Playoffs.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 8:32:21 PM)

Getting stagnant on offense. Hope we're not wearing down.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 8:46:16 PM)

Another poor end of a quarter...

Actually renovations forced them to the X for most of the season and the beginning of hockey season forced them to the barn for the playoffs.

stfrank -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 8:48:26 PM)

They are looking like they are wearing down, hope they have enough left in the tank to close the deal.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 8:53:26 PM)

LA getting sloppy early in the 4th.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 8:57:09 PM)

Nneka on the bench with 5 fouls. Beard on the floor with 5.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (10/4/2017 8:58:07 PM)

WHAT A PLAY BY WHALEN AND FOWLES!!!!
