These choke artists just unqualified for the world cup. Shameful.

McMurfy -> RE: USMNT Soccer (10/11/2017 12:47:55 AM)

Time for a house cleaning, from my local club director all the way to the top.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: USMNT Soccer (10/11/2017 7:06:57 AM)

Nope. Per Arena we're doing nothing wrong and they system is the right one [&o] Unreal.

TJSweens -> RE: USMNT Soccer (10/11/2017 8:20:27 AM)

Yet we just got eliminated by a country with a population half the size of the Twin Cities metro area.

Simmer down. Those kids grew up playing only soccer. Our guys played a bunch of different sports.

I would say the population of US kids playing in soccer development programs and travelling leagues in top notch facilities around America dwarfs the population of Trinidad Tobago.

TJSweens -> RE: USMNT Soccer (10/11/2017 9:24:07 AM)

And what happened to my Soccer Made in Minnesota thread?

McMurfy -> RE: USMNT Soccer (10/11/2017 9:33:20 AM)

My oldest Son is Age 9, probably the best practice player on his team, disappears at times during the games because he’s not real agressive. I’ve been getting pressure from other parents and coaches to put him on a year round team and give up basketball and baseball. My response is that I couldn’t care less about him playing HS soccer, or winning a tournament, that none of the kids on the team are getting a scholarship ( they hate hearing that) and oh by the way, his baseball coach says the same thing to me and I say the same thing to him.

There are a TON of kids playing year round soccer, but they’re not getting better, they’re simply giving their parents more Facebook material and they’re not getting one ounce of toughness or competitive fire.

If you play in 20 youth tournaments a year how important are they to win?

Yep, and they’re pampered all the way.
Hotel Pools and Pizza parties.

Amen. Let the kid have fun playing sports. Two of my kids played basketball year round because it was what they wanted to do. The other two played seasonal sports. None of them got an athletic scholarships and went on to do things in life that didn't involve sports. They simply had fun playing sports with their friends at that time in their lives.

Need to give them old school training techniques like in Dodge Ball.

They just need to love to play.
We all rode our bikes to practice because we loved to play and nobody was driving us.
Now days “the athletes” grumble when they’re loaded into the minivan and the parents set up chairs and watch every practice.

McMurfy -> RE: USMNT Soccer (10/11/2017 9:49:42 AM)

What drives me nuts after age 5 is the postgame snacks and the parent hand tunnel the kids run through.

But as my wife says
“yeah, they didn’t do that when you were a kid and look how great you turned out[&o]”

Those guys, a lot of them at least, aren't even professional soccer players. They are daytime fishermen (example only) who love to play for their country. Our country club team has a multi million dollar facilities, custom meal plans, first class accommodations ect....

The one thing they lack is heart. What happened last night is not what got them knocked out. It's been the whole process. This is a well deserved non-invite.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: USMNT Soccer (10/11/2017 12:16:25 PM)

Sorry, I didn't further read. Tim and Murph words ring true. I just accidentally echoed them.

twinsfan -> RE: USMNT Soccer (6/21/2019 2:08:57 PM)

Shouldn't Tim's latest post go here?

Jeff Jesser -> RE: USMNT Soccer (6/21/2019 2:23:40 PM)

I don't think it's necessary. There isn't enough traction within soccer to garner more threads, IMO.
