I'm enjoying the Cup, though, admittedly, I'd be watching a lot more if the US was playing. But, Mexico looks the part. And as of this post, Germany has awoken from their slumber.

I’m sort of pissed that Russia got the World Cup and the Olympics.

Thanks Obama.

That strike in the 95th minute was unreal. They went from dead in the water and out of the Cup to right back in the whole thing. It also means we don't get the mindless 0-0 draw between Mexico and Sweden on Wed. They both have to play now. Sweden to fend of the Germans and Mexico so they don't lose the group.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: World Cup Thread (6/23/2018 3:07:32 PM)

Kind of crazy (and i'm sure the conspiracy people will be all over this one) that the foul that conceded that free kick winner was done by a guy with Turkish background. Its just odd given all the shit the German media and fans gave the team for supporting Ozil. Sports can be a real bitch sometimes but that's what makes them awesome.

Not exactly like how I thought it would go down but I'm not surprised. Sick f'cks in this world.

Sweden beat Mexico 3-nil today so it appears they have moved on anyway. So ridiculous to lose your shit when a player makes a bad play. These things happen. They wouldn't be on the team if they didn't have talent.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: World Cup Thread (6/28/2018 8:56:47 AM)

There is racism everywhere but it's really bad in EU soccer. None of this surprises me it's just ironic that it involved a Turk given the shit that Ozil has gone through with the German media/fans.

Crazy that Germany went out with a whimper like that.

kgdabom -> RE: World Cup Thread (7/5/2018 1:14:08 PM)

Who's going to win? England? Croatia? Brazil? Russia?

kgdabom -> RE: World Cup Thread (7/13/2018 10:04:13 PM)

Was really hoping for England. Now Croatia or France. Coin Flip. Croatia it is.

I thought England would be in the finals, but today they showed they were not ready for primetime. Now, I have to pull for the awful french. go france....

LOL. The world cup lost a lot of it's appeal to me when Germany, Brazil, Spain and England all got beat. This is simply unbelievable for Croatia and surprising for France.

kgdabom -> RE: World Cup Thread (7/15/2018 2:01:13 PM)

Gratz to France for winning the most prestigious sporting title in the World.

twinsfan -> RE: World Cup Thread (6/17/2019 9:37:48 AM)

Let's try to keep the World Cup posts here. Thanks.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: World Cup Thread (6/17/2019 10:34:01 AM)

NP. I didn’t know this existed.

Yeah Scott. Not sure if you watched it but Chile only had 1
scoring chance and it was very early on a US brain fart. After that
It had to be 80% possession for us. When Chile did get the ball it
was just panic time to try and get it over the half line.

TJSweens -> RE: World Cup Thread (6/17/2019 10:49:40 AM)

I think the US team is on a mission this time around. There were some publications making France the favorite of co favorite. They also lost in the SheBelieves Cup in March. Most of all I think some the most decorated US players are in their last World Cup. No doubt, they want to go out on top.

TJSweens -> RE: World Cup Thread (6/17/2019 10:50:43 AM)

Carli LLoyd also made a statement in returning to the starting lineup against Chile. She clearly wants to put an end this "she's too old to start" nonsense.

Very cool
Similar to hockey teams who get smothered by a great team
Can't even get the puck out! …. [:D]

She's the reigning FIFA player of the year. That talk, pre-tourney, was nonsense. But I do believe you're right. That missed PK probably pissed her off too. That was a bad miss by her standards.

That's exactly what it was like. Chile couldn't even get control of the ball long enough to even try to mount an attack. I actually felt pretty bad for them.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: World Cup Thread (6/17/2019 1:20:44 PM)

Next game will tell us a lot. Neither team wants to lose because they will get Germany right off the bat in the knockouts.
