Toby Stumbo -> 2018 Free Agents (1/29/2018 8:00:58 AM)

Who should the Vikings sign? Who will they lose?

David F. -> RE: 2018 Free Agents (1/29/2018 9:43:24 AM)

In this order - Drew Brees, Alex Smith, Kirk Cousins. Only when all three of them are signed somewhere else do I even begin to look at Keenum or Bradford. Teddy stays as #2 unless he finds a suitor willing to give him a chance (and the $$$ that goes with it) as a #1 - in which case I'll wish him well.

Todd M -> RE: 2018 Free Agents (1/29/2018 10:03:52 AM)

Brees - one of the best QB's ever...won exactly on SB and he and his team had to throw integrity out the window to do it.

Alex Smith - can't win no matter the set up.

Cousins - has never won anything.

The answer isn't here.

The answer is on the team and his name is Teddy.

IMO it is going to take something special for us to win it all. Something developed. A will that won't be denied.

All in on Teddy is a bold strategy Cotton. I'd get behind it.

The Happy Norseman -> RE: 2018 Free Agents (1/29/2018 11:22:40 AM)

1. Franchise Keenum (QB)
2. Pay Teddy $6 mil to back up (QB) - We go into the year protected at QB
3. Sheldon Richardson (DT) - Defense line becomes dominant.
4. Andrew Norwell (OG) - Offense line gets an upgrade.
5. Aaron Colvin (CB) - Upgrade at nickel corner/added depth to CB position.

With our cap space, we could pull this scenario off.

LOVE 2-5. Brees/Smith/Cousins > Keenum though IMO.

I agree. Can't see them giving $23 million to Keenum, a QB who Zimmer had a hard time committing to and who showed very little against Philly when all the chips were on the table. Two interceptions and a fumble when Zimmer preaches ball security. Tough to ignore that even considering all the other issues during that game.

i like 3, 4 and 5...

something else i would consider...if he's available, sign navorro bowman to a three year deal as our mlb - doesn't play nickel so not a lot of punishment...$10m/3yrs....

I havent put my offseason wish list together, yet, but it will be hard to top this one

minus Keenum QB1, of course

Broncos may release, not trade, Aqib Talib
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 29, 2018, 6:05 AM EST

The Broncos are looking to trade cornerback Aqib Talib, but that may not find any trading partners.

The problem for the Broncos is that Talib is due to make an $11 million base salary in 2018, and he turns 32 next month. Teams just don’t want to make that kind of investment in a player that age, especially a player who has the history of off-field incidents and suspensions that Talib has.

Jeff Legwold of ESPN said that he asked sources with three teams if they were interested in trading for Talib, and all three said they are not, and that they expect the Broncos to cut Talib when they can’t find any team willing to trade for him.

If Talib is on the Broncos, he’ll cost $12 million against their salary cap in 2018. He has the team’s third-biggest cap hit, behind Von Miller and Demaryius Thomas.

drviking -> RE: 2018 Free Agents (1/29/2018 12:10:06 PM)

one thing I am hopeful for.

We should be able to tell FAs that they are going to a legit SB contender

maybe that will get us some extra phone calls

Mark Anderson -> RE: 2018 Free Agents (1/29/2018 12:15:31 PM)

Sign Keenum 3 yrs. 45M with an easy out after 2 years. No one else will go over this price.

Toll Teddy if possible. Not sure how it works. Or else give him 2 yr. 10M.

Sign Giants OG Justin Pugh.

Sign Cliff Avril if released.

Find a nickel CB to compete with Alexander

All other needs addressed in draft.

Anyone who pays Richardson will get burned. Big payday and he will be impossible to motivate.

Thomas O. Eliason -> RE: 2018 Free Agents (1/29/2018 12:21:33 PM)

Isn't transition an option with Keenum ?

Then we'd get picks from the club that grabs him up...

I think the clock struck midnight and Keenum turned back into a pumpkin. No way do I franchise Keenum.

No picks if we don't match.

The advantage is Top 10 average salary compared to Top 5.

I think QB was 19M in 2017 for transition tag.

no, you only get a chance to 'match' the offer, no draft picks

IIRC

he absolutely feels like that kind of player, maybe Zim can help with that?

Give WR Dontrell Inman a look. He kind of had his way with Rhodes in 2nd half of Week 17.

Stanford DT would also be nice.

So if we were to pick up Talib after Broncos cut, would we be responsible for his entire $11M?

i dont think so, IIRC, he does not have to clear waivers because he is a veteran player

He would become an UFA and can sign with Any team.

I don't see him signing with us. Doubt he would agree to be a backup

If my memory serves me Talib is an incredible hot head.
