It's in the hole!

Phil Riewer -> RE: Golf Talk (8/13/2018 10:34:05 AM)

Darren Wolfson
✔ @DWolfsonKSTP Just ridiculous local TV ratings yesterday for Tiger's run at the PGA. A 40 share for men 25-54 w/ a peak of 48 at 3:30, & a 28 share for persons 25-54. Share is the % of the audience that was actually watching TV at the time. This has always been a great TV golf viewing market.

Tiger finished second

Tiger

Koepka has won 3 majors in 14 months

Tiger

What a joke. There are numerous stars who have emerged over the years and the PGA and golf media still pine for Tiger, 10 years after he was relevant. And we wonder why more people don't take golf seriously.

Amen

Huge slap in the face to the talent that KEEPS BEATING HIM

Once again last night ... spent 4 minutes talking Tiger, in the tourney recap. Spent 4 seconds naming the winner. And almost forgot that part.
Its pathetic.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Golf Talk (8/13/2018 1:13:12 PM)

Yes there is too much talk about Tiger---they showed the press conference for Koepka and he had maybe 10-15 reporters (1/10th of Tiger) but when he is in contention like the Open and PGA Championship the ratings go thru the roof. Tiger is Vegas......50% like to see him fail and 50% want to see him succeed. They also said all the Golf writers were following Tiger instead of Koepka, probably helped keep the pressure to a minimum. Also they said the crowd cheer at the end was about the same as it was for Reed at the Masters. Tiger was the crowd favorite.

Koepka can handle the Tiger pressure.....Scott not so much---not only does he barely putt legally but he fell flat at the end.

I may have to go off-grid when he finally wins again
The PEOPLE will go APESHIT.

I don't think he will...tons of top 5s/top 10s will come though but with Koepka, DJ, Thomas, Spieth, Fowler...heck even Fleetwood, Reed, Molinari, Day, Scott etc. Way too much talent for him to beat weekly. Tiger is such an enigma..he shot his lowest Sunday score in his major history and he only hit like 4 fairways. Some tweets said for him to quit hitting fairways as he is so used to not hitting the ball straight that he plays better out of the cabbage and is a damn good scrambler.

SoMnFan -> RE: Golf Talk (8/13/2018 1:54:42 PM)

I was almost ready to accept the inevitable ... until seeing Molinari hold him off a couple weeks ago, with every reason to choke, and he did not.
Should have been the talk of the day, instead, it was all you-know-who.
That pretty much cemented my damn-I-hope-he-never-wins-again thoughts.
Yeah, I'm a jackwagon. I know.

that's the part I should love about him.
Our games are similar [:D][:D]
I take a very circuitous route to the green most times also.

I hope they keep talking Tiger and Brooks and Fowler win the next few....my two favorite. Really liked that Reed won Augusta too. He had to go through a lot in that state and showed them...

I just want him to have more of the week before

The media still fawns over that too

Tiger in contention (Saturday morning)

Monday morning: Tiger shoots worst weekend rounds ever
Who won? Heck if I know. Just know Tiger sucked.

SoMnFan -> RE: Golf Talk (8/21/2018 3:28:15 PM)

A middle of the week (other MN sports) thread sweep!
Rare.
Very rare .....

I'm trying to save you from yourself. Between watching the Bachelorette and acting like Matt, you are going in the wrong direction.

SoMnFan -> RE: Golf Talk (8/23/2018 10:32:05 AM)

Damn, ANOTHER Tiger Woods Open tournament this weekend
On Tiger Woods TV.
Covered by Espn OchoTiger.

I'm thinking probably our best result now would be just letting him win one of these, so the world can go back to turning.

This is pretty fascinating, actually
(since we're talking Tiger vs Phil)

Tiger vs. Phil: By the numbers

Tiger Woods - first numbers

Phil Mickelson - second numbers

Career wins 79 43
Major championships 14 5
Last win WGC-Bridgestone (2013) WGC-Mexico (2018)
Career earnings $111.9 million $87.5 million
Overall top-10 finishes 189 193
Top-3 finishes in majors 24 23
Official World Golf Ranking 67 20

Looks like a mismatch, until you look at top-10 finishes, esp in majors.
More flash for one, more solid longevity for the other

The nickname many gave Phil just a few years ago was FIG.
