With DX being defunct, this is a pretty good breakdown of a TON of players.

Warning: They may tend to make a whole lot of players out to be potential stars...but still solid stuff.

I like Hutchison. Don't like Carr at all.

Pretty good, but yes, far too optimistic in most cases.

The "Shades of" are all very generous.

Darren Wolfson@DWolfsonKSTP
The #Twolves requested an interview with IMG Academy SG Anfernee Simons, and have been granted one. Combine interviews in Chicago start later today. The Wolves will interview over 10 prospects.

New Suns coach Igor Kokoskov coached Doncic on the Slovenian national team that won EuroBasket 2017 last summer.

Has Doncic made a decision yet on playing in the NBA this season?

Nope. I think he's going to see where he goes first.

I have to think the Suns hiring Kokoskov would make it much, much more likely he comes.

I'm excited to see him in the NBA.

Over the years, I have learned that there is more hype than substance with many of the Euro's, but I'm buying the hype on Doncic.

I've never seen such a young player dominate EuroLeague the way he has.

He just turned 19 and he's killing it in the 2nd strongest league in the world. And against much more mature and experienced players.

David Levine -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (5/17/2018 10:12:17 PM)

I think he has to go #1.

Ayton scares me too much. Whoever drafts him has to hope that his college system suppressed his defense by a lot. He looks the part, but he's all red flags on that side of the ball.

I actually think I'd rather take JJJ or Bamba over him.

Yeah, I'm not sold on Ayton as much as the rest of basketball seems to be. I would definitely take Jackson over him.

As far as Doncic, I think Phoenix is better for him than Sacramento. However, I have to admit, I know very little about Kokoskov, but Booker, Warren, Jackson, Chriss/Bender, they could have a very good, young future adding Doncic. Not a big Payton fan though.

David Levine -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (5/18/2018 9:40:56 AM)

Fun fact:
Other than a 28 day break between the 2012 draft and the Wes Johnson trade, the Stepien rule has been in play for the Wolves ever since the Cassell/Jaric trade in August 2005.

David Levine -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (5/18/2018 10:17:42 AM)

ESPN.com Mock Draft
20. Minnesota Timberwolves - Dzanan Musa (SF - International)
Age: 19.0 / Height: 6’9” / Weight: 195 pounds

I’ll be honest, I had to triple-check the spelling of this dude’s first name, so that should tell you how familiar I am with his overall game. According to Jonathan Givony, “Musa’s size, scoring instincts and aggressiveness could be intriguing at this stage of the draft. He’s one of the youngest players in this class but already productive in Europe, playing at a fairly high level.”

Givony adds that this selection could be insurance for the Wolves if they do indeed lose Nemanja Bjelica to free agency. While losing Belly seems like a disaster in itself (that’s a story for another day), the Wolves could clearly use all of the things Musa brings to the table — youth, shooting, and the ability to put the ball on the floor to create for himself or his teammates.

SI.com Mock Draft
20. Minnesota Timberwolves - Chandler Hutchison (SF - Boise State University)
Age: 22.0 / Height: 6’7” / Weight: 193 pounds

Hutchison is one of the oldest prospects projected to be drafted in the first round, but his production in the Mountain West this past season supports his case as an intriguing first round flier. As a senior at Boise State, Hutchison averaged 20.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game on his way to being named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year. He also shot 36% from there three-point line on 4.1 attempts per game.

Age aside, this is one of my favorite players projected to go in the first round, and I think the fit in Minnesota could be ideal. While I’m no Jonathan Givony, Hutchison’s game does remind me a lot of Kyle Kuzma, who was also selected late in the first round of last year’s draft before lighting up the NBA during his rookie season.

Hutchison has a smooth stroke, can finish in traffic with either hand, and has the size and quickness to be able to defend multiple positions. Just the idea of Jimmy taking this kid under his wing and grooming him to be a two-way player puts a ridiculous stupid smile on my face:

NBAdraft.net Mock Draft
20. Minnesota Timberwolves - Lonnie Walker (SG - University of Miami)
Age: 19.4 / Height: 6’4” / Weight: 200 pounds

As a freshman at Miami, Walker really struggled to put together a consistent season, averaging just 11.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 27.8 minutes per game. However, with a lack of pure two-guards in this draft, Walker projects to be a late lottery/mid-first round pick based on his size, elite wingspan (drink!), and crazy athleticism.

How would Walker (potentially) fit in Minnesota? Well, is he young, can he shoot, does he possess the raw athleticism to be a plus defender, and is he Derrick Rose? Crossing off three of those boxes is perfect for me, and I could see Walker getting plenty of work with the second unit as the Wolves attempt to re-construct their bench this offseason:

‘nother Brick in the Wall.

Sounds like he's having a good game today:

Jonathan Givony@DraftExpress
Luka Doncic in the starting lineup, with Phoenix Suns and #1 pick owner Robert Sarver looking on, as Real Madrid - CSKA Moscow tips off in the Euroleague Final Four in Belgrade.

Jonathan Givony@DraftExpress
Strong first half for Luka Doncic in a super up tempo Euroleague contest. Has 10 points on 5 shots in 15 minutes with two assists. Getting to the rim with relative ease against a long and athletic defender in Will Clyburn. Real Madrid 47 CSKA Moscow 46 so far.

Jonathan Givony@DraftExpress
Real Madrid 63 - CSKA Moscow 56 at the end of the 3rd. Luka Doncic is firmly in control of the tempo of this game. Doing a great job of attacking switches, finding teammates, directing traffic. Clyburn going at him offensively unsuccessfully. Impressive stuff from the 19 year old

Jonathan Givony@DraftExpress
Real Madrid up 10 with two minutes to go. Luka Doncic handling CSKA's press with no issue, drawing fouls, making free throws, talking shit. Championship game is very close.

Matt Lang -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (5/18/2018 6:08:40 PM)

Mr. Ed -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (5/21/2018 2:02:40 PM)

SI.com says in its latest mock MN will take

Donte Divincenzo Villanova G

With Jamal Crawford turning down his option for next season, Minnesota stands to add to its wing rotation here. DiVincenzo broke out in a major way at the combine and fortified the strong impression he left in March and over the course of Villanova’s season. It’s clear he’s not a flash in the pan, as his consistent level of focus, instincts for forcing turnovers and grabbing rebounds and ability to hit open jumpers build in a degree of safety. He was one of the top athletes at the combine, but more importantly, his athletic ability actually pops within the context of his game. DiVincenzo has to improve as a man-to-man defender and doesn’t consistently create great shots for himself, but he knows how to play with and off of others and clearly has the makings of a quality role player. He’s likely punched his first-round ticket, and seems likely to remain in the draft.

Would be a great choice with our 2nd round pick.

He wouldn't be horrible, but it feels like there are wings with a lot more upside that will be available at our pick.

He reminds me way too much of Nik Stauskas.

Totally valid concern. Even his combine results are eerily similar.

And Doncic is eerily similar to Dan Majorlie.
