So, you and Jerry have Robinson being a better NBA'er than Porter.

I'd like to wager on that.

That was the head scratcher for me from West.

I'm going with blissful denial on that one, with a healthy dollop of Robinson possibly being a legit NBA scorer. Didn't like the pick initially, but the more I read, the more I could squint and see the logic. It will be an interesting one to see play out. Everyone seems to say he's a good kid with a good work ethic and a desire to be good.

I wouldn't mess with a tall, skinny kid with a discectomy and a bad hip at 19 unless I felt really good about the recovery, his work ethic, and his resiliency. Those structures are part of a nexus that supports and stabilizes all movement and impact; the hip could already be a result of compensating for the back, which doesn't portend well for future issues with hamstring, groin, glute, hip, back, etc. His seeming delusional confidence could help or hurt, depending on what else he's made of.

You have the right coach, IMO.

I think Rivers was the coach of the year. I think he did his best coaching in his career last season.

He pieced stuff together all season long and they were relevant, despite the adversity.

Development exists.

Losing Jordan, one of my favorite unsung players, does hurt though.

Yeah, but he's actually seemed gone for quite a while. Interesting that he signed for the exact contract he would have had if he'd opted in. He's always seemed a bit of a fragile lad, and the whiplash of his last Dallas signing along with always being third on the totem and potentially being available for trade seems to have worn on him over time. Dallas played him last time by telling him he would be integral to their offense when his range starts getting shaky at 13 inches, so I wonder if that stuck in his mind, too. He gave us good years and his durability and defensive presence are going to be missed, though, and this year might be a tough bridge to a ton of cap space next summer.

JJJ with 29 points (8/13 from 3!!), 3 rebounds and 2 blocks so far in 22 minutes.

Trae Young with 16 points on 4/19 shooting (1/11 from 3) and looking like he’s trying to beat someone in HORSE by taking the worst possible shots.

Its hard to take too much away from Summer League, but a few things stood out.

JJJ's gets the 3 off really quick - especially for a big guy.

Young really struggled trying to get any offense going against "NBA size".

That low release point is going to be an issue for him in the NBA.

Yes.

When fans complain about Super Teams, they may want to take a look at what their own club does when they have a chance to land the best player in the draft.

And speaking of things of that nature, Okogie has a long setup on his perimeter shot.
Relatively slow and Michael Cooper-like. Should be easy to correct, but it's a concern.

Don't get me wrong, love the pick. Love our draft.

He's definitely going to have to work on the trajectory of his floater.

David Levine -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (7/5/2018 9:39:15 PM)

Young has a 1-12 going today.

But as bad as his shooting has been, his complete inability to gain any separation off the dribble might be way more concerning.

I think he has a long learning process ahead of him.

At that size, you can't shoot from your chin in the NBA.

Height/weight/strength/length/athleticism all working against him.

I think he's closer to Alford than he is Booker.

JT2 -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (7/6/2018 1:25:15 AM)

Forget the Booker comparison. How about something from home, Mark Price?

Obviously different era and a different game. Price was actually smaller than Young. Price was blazing fast and he handled the rock as well as anybody in the game at that time. (Maybe kenny Anderson was better) Yeah, I have a GT bias. Maybe that's clouding my opinion on Okogie.

Anyway, the smaller Price had no trouble getting his shot off. Career 40% from 3. Smart, selective, quick. Three words not used to describe Young.

Elliot -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (7/6/2018 11:47:37 AM)

I see that Grayson Allen is already making friends in the NBA. I'm waiting for the time when he tries his shenanigans with a veteran.

Wolves 3-2 in SL. Diop and Okogie, both look good.

They had no PG play. No one to distribute the ball. But I agree, I thought Okogie and Drop looked good on both ends.
