SI.com says in its latest mock MN will take

Donte Divincenzo Villanova G

With Jamal Crawford turning down his option for next season, Minnesota stands to add to its wing rotation here. DiVincenzo broke out in a major way at the combine and fortified the strong impression he left in March and over the course of Villanova’s season. It’s clear he’s not a flash in the pan, as his consistent level of focus, instincts for forcing turnovers and grabbing rebounds and ability to hit open jumpers build in a degree of safety. He was one of the top athletes at the combine, but more importantly, his athletic ability actually pops within the context of his game. DiVincenzo has to improve as a man-to-man defender and doesn’t consistently create great shots for himself, but he knows how to play with and off of others and clearly has the makings of a quality role player. He’s likely punched his first-round ticket, and seems likely to remain in the draft.

Would be a great choice with our 2nd round pick.

He wouldn't be horrible, but it feels like there are wings with a lot more upside that will be available at our pick.

He reminds me way too much of Nik Stauskas.

Totally valid concern. Even his combine results are eerily similar.

Stauskas was a surprise to some at the combine, but Michigan coaches weren't at all surprised. Apparently, LeVert took him under his wing and they had a Jordan breakfast club thing going on. Worked his ass off on strength, speed and agility training. Unfortunately, it didn't translate to actual on-court skills. Not to mention, I don't think I ever saw a rookie that showed that much intimidation and fear on his face when he hit the NBA. He looked, and played frightened.

DiVincenzo is a great story, and I'd like to see him do well. But, as you said, far too many better wing options (with higher ceilings) available.

Five Under-the-Radar 3-and-D Wings That You Should Know About
According to Ringer staff writer Jonathan Tjarks.

Devon Hall, Virginia. The senior wing was a two-way rock for the Cavaliers all season, and he has the size, shooting ability, and basketball IQ to be worth a shot at the next level. The Malcolm Brogdon comparison is lazy, but it's not completely absurd.

Jarrey Foster, SMU. Foster was a raw athlete coming out of high school who slowly turned himself into a well-rounded player in a three-year stint at SMU, a program that has sent several players to the NBA recently. He surprised many people when he declared for the draft despite tearing his ACL in January, but he could be an interesting long-term gamble for a team willing to bet on his tools and pedigree.

Kerwin Roach, Texas. Roach, an elite defensive player at Texas, is one of the best athletes in this year's draft. He turned the corner as a junior and became a more consistent offensive player, both as a shooter and decision-maker, but he's still not very polished. Regardless of whether he's drafted, Roach will spend a lot of time in the G League next season, where he could easily win the dunk contest.

Donte Ingram, Loyola-Chicago. Ingram has the best chance of any of Loyola's players to capitalize off their Cinderella run. At 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, he's got an NBA-caliber frame with a consistent 3-point stroke, and he guarded players at all five positions during March Madness.

Malik Pope, San Diego State. NBA draft nerds will remember Pope's name from his freshman season at San Diego State, when he was briefly touted as a potential lottery pick thanks to a projectable 3-point stroke and absurd dimensions for a wing (6-foot-10 and 220 pounds with a 7-foot-2 wingspan). He never added much else to his game in four years in college, but those two things will at least get him a training camp invite.

I do. Unfortunately the draft coverage is crap compared to what DX did. It feels like about 5% the content - if that.

They also have the most shit business model I've ever seen. You can either pay like 50/year for Insider, or if you're willing to throw away their garbage for them, you can find deals for a year subscription to ESPN the magazine for as little as 4.99 (for the whole year!), and get Insider for free with it.

I think I've settled in on Josh Okogie if we keep our current pick.

3&D wing that can guard 4 positions, rebounds well and can really attack the rim.

Latest Rotoworld on Anfernee Simons.

Anfernee Simons is scheduled to work out for the Jazz on Thursday.

Simons is one of the youngest players in the 2018 draft, and while he is a bit underdeveloped from a physical standpoint, he's loaded with upside, has a nice shooting stroke and is ridiculously athletic. The Jazz have the No. 21 pick in the upcoming draft, which would be a bit high for Simmons, but if they like what they see on Thursday they may consider moving down to nab him.

My question related to this bit is that they are saying the Jazz would trade down if they want Simons. Do they have this right or would we need to stand pat to get him?

Yup.

Obviously not all of them, but the trend now is to play a lot of guys in the 6'6-6'8 range as small ball PFs.

And with good strength and a 7 foot wingspan, he's a solid choice to check those types of guys.

You might not. I'm sure every NBA team has him top 3 and most #1. If he turns out to be a bum you can tell everybody you told them so.

kgdabom -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/12/2018 12:18:39 PM)

NBADraft.net has us taking Troy Brown. Based on their scouting report I would not have an issue with that.

NBA Comparison: Caris LeVert/Steve Smith
Strengths: All-around player with serious versatility on both ends … Big time athlete/high-flyer … Perfect size/length to play the wing position at the next level … Solid 6’6” frame … Has a near 7-foot wingspan … Quick first step/good footspeed overall … Possesses good quickness and agility, which he shows off well on the perimeter … Strong passer/playmaking wing … Has unique point-forward ball skills and vision … Played point guard in high school so he still has the ability to initiate offense … Reads the floor well … Can execute tough passes … Can deliver the ball quickly and accurately … Tight handle … Can create in space … Comfortable running the pick-and-roll … Makes plays for himself and his teammates off the bounce … Likes to put the ball on the floor at attack closeouts … Goes straight at the defense … Doesn’t have elite burst but makes good use of his long strides to get downhill … Natural scorer … Majority of his points come from the mid-range and inside … Can post-up smaller matchups … Has a nice fade-away jumper in the mid-range area … Can got his shot off against most defenders … Has a solid touch on his floaters and runners in traffic … Doesn’t force the action inside … Solid defender who could bring a lot of versatility at the next level defending multiple positions … Can be a pesky defender … Fights through screens … He can stay with quicker guards with his lateral quickness and guard big men in the post area with his size … Does well at denying the ball and plays passing lanes well … Knows where to be when playing off the ball … Good rebounder for his size … Crashes the offensive glass consistently … High IQ … Good basketball instincts/nose for the ball … Always seems to be part of the play … Has a high motor … Very outgoing and personable kid ... Very young. Won't turn 19 until July 28th ...

Weaknesses: Long and wiry athlete but needs to continue developing his strength … Not super explosive vertically … Average burst off the bounce … Finishing at the rim/through contact are areas that he needs to work on … Solid handle but it’s not good enough for him to be primary ball handler and creator at the next level … Needs to continue developing his jumper/shooting range … He’s not a threat from the outside, as his jumper it still too inconsistent … Although he has nice shooting mechanics, he doesn’t shoot the ball the same way every time … Sometimes brings ball down on his shot, which delays his release … Can be too passive on the offensive end … Shot selection … Can get caught playing wild and out of control … Sometimes forces unnecessary passes … Has a tendency to stop in the middle of traffic on his drives, which leads to turnovers … Needs to react more quickly to rotating defenses … Needs to be more aggressive and assertive …Takes himself out of the game offensively if he doesn’t start well … More of sound team defender than consistent lockdown defender …

Overall: Brown, who will still be 18 years old by draft night, has all the tools to be a very good NBA player ... There are some questions about what his role could be in the NBA, but he figures to be a solid prospective two-way athlete ... Brown is smart and skilled with an abundance of all-round skills that should translate ... His jumper and adding strength are two areas that he really needs to develop moving forward ... But his NBA-ready frame, rebounding and defensive potential will give him opportunities to see the floor as he works on other parts of his game ...
Notes: Measured 6'6, 210 lbs with a 6'11 wingspan and 8'9 standing reach at the 2017 Nike Hoop Summit ... Measured at 6'5, 187 lbs, with a 6'9 wingspan at the 2014 Nike Elite 100 ... Measured 6'6 (in shoes) 184 lbs, with a 6'8 wingspan at the 2014 LeBron James Skills Academy ... Measured 6'4 without shoes, 6'5 with shoes, 185 lbs, with a 6'8.5 wingspan and 8'7 standing reach at the 2014 USA Junior National Team Mini Camp ... Measured 6’6.5’’ in shoes, with a 6’8’’ wingspan and 199 lbs at the 2015 Nike Basketball Academy ...

There is no doubt to his NBA size, length and athleticism. He was a man among boys at Tucson, hell, in the NCAA.

His biggest, most important, game to date, he came up really small. I mean really small.

Raw, clueless, unaware are the best ways to describe his defense. Paper tiger in the paint.

Obviously, some GM's are banking on this being an easy fix. I don't think so.

The so called experts like to compare him to David Robinson. The best comparison I can come up with is Michael Beasley. Ayton is 3+ inches taller, 20+ pounds heavier than Beasley was at KState.

Beasley averaged 26.2 points, 12.4 rebounds his lone year in the NCAA.
Ayton averaged 20.1 points, 11.6 rebounds. He also played 2 minutes more per game.

One thing they have in common; poor defensively.

With Ayton's size, length and athleticism you absolutely need him to be a top-notch defender. That's a project and a gamble.

I don't know Tyson Chandler's contract situation, but keeping him on board might be a smart move if the Suns draft Ayton.

Even if a team isn't sold on Doncic, how do you pass on JJJ?

One of the things that impressed me with the Stepien site is they aren't afraid to go against popular takes. They currently have Ayton #6.

You can't. Highest floor, with a high ceiling.

I've questioned some of the Euro hype of the past, but I think Doncic is going to be a star in the NBA. I'd rather have him than Porzingis
