Michael Porter is a bit full of himself:

[image]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Df_nDy8VQAEC3Nh.jpg[/image]

How is he not the #1 overall pick? He's a better version of Durant + Giannis with a little TMac mixed in.

I think I'm going to stick with "Andrew Wiggins with a ****ed up back"...

There is a ton of talent in this draft (and a ridiculous number of potential 3&D wings where we'll be drafting), but Doncic and JJJ are my 2 guys with legit superstar potential. Doncic as a wing and JJJ as a true 2-way Center.

I'm excited about this draft class. It's fun to watch how players respond/translate to the NBA game.

I'm not as excited about what I think we'll do with it.

I'd love to weigh in, but history has proven that I am utterly clueless when it comes to projecting how college players will perform in the NBA. My recommendation is that Thibs follow this forum and avoid anyone I think will be great like the plague. If I hate a player, he should laser focus on that guy.

Don't keep us in the dark. Who do you love and who do you hate?

It may all be moot. I am hearing speculation that they could move the pick because they are so capped out.

I think someone's info may be off. The #20 pick's salary is less than 2M.

The only way that makes sense is if we're attaching it to Dieng to clear HIS salary.

TJSweens -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/19/2018 2:13:32 PM)

I don't know the Wolves actual numbers, but the gist of what I read was that even $2M puts them ever closer to the luxury tax. Probably just idle speculation, due to being capped out and Thib's penchant for not playing rookies anyways. I see the draft as one of the few viable means to add meaningful talent to the roster.

David Levine -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/19/2018 2:25:44 PM)

I think the "Thibs doesn't play rookies" thing is overblown.

Patton didn't play because he broke his foot, never looked comfortable in the GLeague and then needed another procedure after the season ended.

But the previous year, he (if anything) overplayed Dunn.

Mirotic played 1700 minutes.
Kris Dunn played 1300 minutes.
Tony Snell played 1200 minutes.
Asik played 1000 minutes.
McDermott didn't play much, but he was awful as a rookie.
Marquis Teague he didn't want on the team.
Butler barely played, but that was a shortened season (and offseason) and a team that finished #1 in the East.

David Levine -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/19/2018 2:26:32 PM)

I think its more likely we don't bring Bjelica back than salary dump the draft pick (again, unless its the price of dumping Dieng).

TJSweens -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/19/2018 2:31:04 PM)

I gotta believe they are trying to move Wiggins. If his presence makes it less likely that Butler resigns, they need to move him sooner than later. I see the alternative as trading Butler at the deadline and firing Thibs after the season.

David Levine -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/19/2018 2:40:00 PM)

We NEED to move Wiggins while he still might have some value.

We're not getting a star or a high pick for him, and we need a bad front office to deal with.

My most realistic trade is Wiggins to SAC for Hield, Shumpert and WCS.

1. SAC has a front office that is known for making horrible trades and poor player evaluation.
2. Hield has sneakily gotten kind of good. He's a way better shooter than Wiggins, but also a better defender, rebounder and passer. And he doesn't need the ball in his hands all the time to be effective.
3. Shumpert is overpaid, but only has 1 year left, so its palatable. And he's still an upgrade over an wing we had on our bench last year.
4. WCS has underwhelmed, but he was a good defensive combo with KAT in college and has more ability to guard in space than Towns does.

Its not sexy, but it makes us better.

TJSweens -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/19/2018 3:20:02 PM)

We are definitely going to have to sell low to move Wiggins. It's the kind of thing where you have to accept that you are giving up a former #1 over all and great young athlete to improve your cap situation. I would be happy as hell if they could pull of the deal you posted. Back when we got Butler I lamented that I wished we would have given up Wiggins instead of LaVine. I have no doubt that when all is said and done, Zach will have a much career than Wiggins.

David Levine -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/19/2018 3:29:07 PM)

The best thing anyone can do is forget where players were drafted the minute after it happens.

TJSweens -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/19/2018 3:35:39 PM)

Yep.

Luka Doncic completes a dream season with an ACB championship, as Real Madrid wins game 4. Didn't have his best game, but was money down the stretch, including making a ridiculous one legged 3 with the shot clock running down. He'll be in the Green Room at the NBA Draft Thursday

Bill Johanesen -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/19/2018 5:36:32 PM)

Not even Sacramento is that stupid. Nobody is going to pay Wiggins' salary for all those remaining years.

My Lakers have their own problems with Deng and his two years/36M.

David Levine -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/19/2018 6:00:39 PM)

Don't underestimate the Kings.

Philly gets their unprotected first round pick next year in a deal where SAC traded it to clear enough cap room to sign Rondo to a big contract...

I'd love that trade.Can't see anybody giving that much for Wiggins. Hield is definitely getting better and I see him improving more. He can flat out shoot. WCS at worst is a big, mobile defender and rebounder.

Sure wish Wiggins would get some competitive nature in him. You know he here's what everybody is saying, but he seems content to cash the monster checks.

I would do that deal without Shumpert. Don't know if I would do it with him.

TJSweens -> RE: 2018 NBA Draft (6/20/2018 8:28:30 AM)

Shumpert may be necessary to match salaries and his comes off the books in a year.

Yeah I get that. IIRC Hield was in the Dunn draft and the guy I wanted with that pick. Or possibly the guy Denver took.

Mo Bamba is the opposite of this guy. So articulate and just seems to be mature beyond his years.

Correct.

He'd also provide valuable wing depth. You can't have Butler, Hield and a guy you draft at #20 be the only wings on your roster. I mean Thibs could, but any sane GM/Coach would think that's absurd.

And the contract is hardly a problem. Its "only" 11M, and its expiring.

You either flip him at the deadline for a minor asset to a team that is facing the repeater tax, or you simply let him walk after the year.

I normally don't factor intelligence, articulation, etc into my "scouting" (unless a guy is just dumb like a brick), but Jaylen Brown made me start to rethink that. Dude is so smart, thoughtful and well spoken. Just listen to him address a college graduating class, or read one of his articles. He's a super impressive dude.

He also made one of the biggest 1st year to 2nd year jumps that I've ever seen from an NBA player. Stevens gets some of the credit, but there is clearly something between his ears that helped enable that rapid growth.

I like that deal. Of course, I'd trade Wiggins for just about anybody.

Hield has improved, and just about split minutes evenly with Bogdanovic this season. I like Bogdanovic too.

I think that SAC underplayed Hield makes it more likely they undervalue him.

I agree. Joerger was the opposite of Thibodeau, he played everybody. Too much.

It would be nice to have that legit 3 point shooter on the team. He has serious range, and gets it off quick.

I think he's a little limited attacking the rack, but it would be great to actually have a great 3 point shooter on this team.

I still don't know what to make of WCS. Every time he starts to show a little something, he regresses quickly. Koufos outplayed him often times last season.

He's a limited offensive player for sure. He's a roleplayer, but its a good role. He shoots 3s with volume and accuracy.
