Watching the Titans blitz Cody Kessler relentlessly last night was like football porn for me. The Titans didn't let up with the pressure even when ahead 30-2 in the 3rd quarter or 30-9 in the fourth quarter. They were a 6-6 (now 7-6) team on the edge of the playoffs and they were coached like it and played like it. Kessler couldn't handle the pressure so Tennessee took advantage. Plain and simple. Take note Zimmer and co.

No doubt

We should have been rushing Barr more often against Brady vs having him float around covering no one. makes little to no sense.

Barr has had 1 sack since Thanksgiving of 2016. I doubt they'd adjust that much as far as scheme and responsibilities, nor is it a given it would be effective.

That is so unbelievable I immediately looked it up to prove you were exaggerating...

NOPE

How. is. that. possible?

Zero sacks in 2017.

Do not pay this man.

Kendricks only has one sack since Xmas of 2016 (on Dec 24 he got 2.5 sacks vs GB, his only sacks of the year). One in 2017. None in 2018.

He has far more tackles than Barr though.

Kfan said Vikings have two road wins against eventual playoff teams with Zimmer as coach.

Thats the same record as Cousins in his entire career against teams that finished the season with a winning record...

TWO... ! [:-] (zero this year continues the status quo)

We will be bucking the norm heavily to win in Seattle on Monday!

Dana Turner -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/7/2018 9:57:55 PM)

Its really pretty simple. The Vikings will have to play a game they have not played this year in order to win in Seattle against a team that is heading in the opposite direction. If I had seen this coaching staff come up with an innovative game plan from the outset of a game, I'd be thinking they might bring us this type of effort, but.....

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/7/2018 11:02:27 PM)

Im hoping for an early Christmas miracle honestly...

Coach the team to play some inspired football Zimm and make us all believers!

Otherwise its time for the ghosts of Christmas football past to come take Zimmer on a little stroll through his career... Ending with a visit back to last year with Case Keenum and how he was not trusted and shown the door because he wasnt deemed to be able to get us to the next level, lucky horseshoe, Minneapolis Miracle and all...

Then culminating with a Visit to Oakland to see Little Danny Carlson the kicker that was so intimidated by coaching and dumped so quickly this season he likely had to find his own ride home... Zimms words ring so ominously as Danny finds redemption in a new more caring atmosphere!

Ghosts of Christmas football future need to show Zimm just how quickly his own luck should change soon with his own failures to take a team full of talent to the next level...

Its not too late Scrooge, er, I mean Zimm... Lets see a a changed man on the sideline for MNF ready to provide inspired steps toward the gift every Viking fan wants come play offs!

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/7/2018 11:42:51 PM)

David, I think you are right about blitzing.

While we don't know if it would be effective blitzing Barr, Kendricks and others more often, we do know the times we were beat, it was usually a good QB getting a little too comfortable, knowing the timing and where our past rushers would usually be.

JT2 -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/8/2018 12:21:25 AM)

I hate becoming that old, grumpy, redundant guy, but....
We, literally, have two pass catching threats that worry a defense. If all you have is two, no matter how good, that's a problem.

Defending our pass offense is easy.

Is James White that much better than Cook?

We can't get that type of production out of Cook, primarily because that space is occupied by defenders, because we have only two quality WR's and a slow TE.

No doubt our OLine isn't great, but could you imagine if we had a #3 WR that wasn't a draft legacy turtle? Or, if we had a TE that actually ran routes behind the linebackers?

We are so easy to defend. Do the math. Two guys draw all the coverage. Seems like a great opportunity for somebody to step up. Yeah, we don't have that guy.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/8/2018 6:54:00 AM)

Seems our screen passes rarely fool a defense.

Under Shurmur it was a bread and butter play.

Not sure if these screens are poorly designed, or poorly executed, or is it the timing of the play call.

Both Kendricks and Barr are tremendously over-rated.

Did Keenum sell the screens better, or was the blocking or scheme better Shurmer ?

Did the screens work well in the preseason with Sloter ?

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/8/2018 10:55:09 AM)

Kirk's primary strength as a QB is presnap read pocket passer. He was touted in Washington for his ability to read an opposing D and make correct presnap reads and call adjustments from what the D was showing him...

Its not working here under Flipp it would seem... Is it Flips Schemes and play calls? The O LIne? Does Kirk have a "tell" that other D have figured out?

We seem fairly vanilla in our base sets and show our intentions often with what player groupings are on the field, maybe it telegraphs what we have put on tape... As well Kirk rarely seems to get to his third read, he seems to lock on to his primary target and rarely looks him off, then when that is not open he dumps it off to his saftey valve short. Often this results in a WR running free that Kirk never sees.

Flipp as a OC and QB coach excelled in teaching his QBs to keep eyes down field when initial play breaks down, buying time by moving the pocket and going through all his progressions. This is not a strength of Kirks game, He tends too hold on to the ball too long at this point and make questionable decisions in field awareness and ball security.

Last year so many times it was a jail break, the play broke down and Case used his lucky horseshoe play making ability to scramble, keep the play alive and just with all his heart and effort chuck it up there to contested WRs who would more often than not make the catches resulting in what seemed to be far more clutch big plays.

Not saying Kirk cant use his skill sets and big arm to excel as a pocket passer but with the O line issues and the OC stylings of Flipp it just doesnt play into his strong points of his game and equate to what we all expected to see this year... Opposing Dlines are playing heavy, pushing the pocket back against a weak O line crowding the LOS and flooding short zones, daring Kirk to try and get it further down field with limited time and less than clean pocket to our two only two real speed threats at WR in base sets its not working or fooling anyone even with Kirks play action strengths. Lack of running game and short passes like screens and sweeps are not working because the D is choosing to clog up the LOS and middle and we are not breaking these tendencies with adjustments and counter play calls. Much is the O lines fault but also much must fall at feet of OC to set up QB to execute more balanced offense that keeps the D honest and off guard more.

If you think the System cant hamper the skill set of a QB look no further than the Rams system under Jeff Fisher... Keenum, Foles and Goff did little, but in new systems one wins the Super Bowl, other takes his team to div champs and Goff looks all world without Fish...

Screens work great against the blitz, teams don't need to blitz to get pressure so that nullifies the screen game.

I will say Flip is very uneven with his playcalling. Some nice plays sure but we're never in control on offense. Mike Lombardi was saying how he is the opposite of Zimmer in that he can't control the pace of the game.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/8/2018 6:27:10 PM)

"...teams don't need to blitz...."

That's right, so screens are another play you can toss out the window because of the putrid OL.

G, G, and I'd be looking at candidates for C as well. Elf is far from a sure bet. Get a new OL coach too.

we haven't had a tight end that can block for seven games - really should have brought someone in....

Vikings Corner@VikingsCorner
The #Vikings announced David Morgan, Trae Waynes and Chad Beebe are out for Monday's game against Seattle. Eric Kendricks is listed as questionable.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/9/2018 7:26:18 AM)

Might be the first time I've seen kendricks on the injury report.

He has been very durable.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/9/2018 10:41:54 AM)

I'm trying to see a possible way we win on the road against this team with this coach and I just can't envision it! Therefore we probably win!! You guys are welcome.....

Viking Rich -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/9/2018 11:24:49 AM)

I actually watched that Washington/Seattle game last year when Cousins rallied the Redskins to a win (ON THE ROAD) in the last minute of the game. That was the game where I actually really thought it would be great if we could somehow land him.

Now he's on the our team, and on the road in Seattle again.

I think this Vikes team is a lot more talented than Washington was last year.

The problem is Zimmer. Will he be out-coached again?

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/9/2018 12:04:41 PM)

So, I'm taking my Sunday morning drive up to Marquette, McGregor area and I hear a couple times on Serious XM that KC can clinch a playoff spot today with a win. Really? Isn't that similar on the flip side to saying the Packers can still make the playoffs?

I'd love to see the math regarding how KC could not make the playoffs

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/9/2018 12:13:32 PM)

I think it would be hilarious if KC didn't make the playoffs [&:].

They would just need to lose their last 4, Chargers win 3 of 4, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Tennessee win their last 4, and NE and Houston win 2 of their last 4.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/9/2018 1:27:08 PM)

Carolina tied with Clev 17-17. Wash down big.

Viking Rich -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/9/2018 1:27:23 PM)

Eric Ebron just caught his 12th TD this season.

He had 11 in all of his 4 seasons in Detroit.

He's 9 for 9 in Red Zone catches this year, all for TDs.

Sometimes it's not the player, it's the team.

Not sure how he would have worked out for the Vikes, but we should have looked at him.

I'm sure he would have liked to stick it to Detroit.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/9/2018 1:29:07 PM)

I normally think it's just our emotions when we bitch about the lack of calls against the Puke in Lameland. When you watch a game as a neutral it really is appalling.

Erin runs and get his ass handed to him, legally. Olineman comes to his little rescue and takes the DB 20 yards downfield after the whistle. Refs are right there in the middle of the scrum. They don't throw the flags until Atlanta gets in the mix to help the DB out. It's now somehow 'offsetting'.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/9/2018 1:30:56 PM)

Seattle hasn't exactly been a world beater. Beat Dallas in week 3, played LA close in a loss. Slipped by Carolina. That's about it.
