I always laugh when they say those two can't help right now....hell if they can't. Blasingame should get some carries. I know both can play Special Teams.

This is surely going to get a rise out of Jason. I don't think Zimmer has figured out how to be a HC. And of course I don't agree with his announced football philosophy. We will run and stop the run. Wow! That's some genius stuff. Passing and stopping the pass is less important?

Zimmer name-drops Parcells often. Hell, he did it this preseason during a press conference. One thing Zimmer and his mentor have in common is their disdain for kickers. It shows.

Part of the reason why just about anybody could be our #3 WR this season is because Treadwell blocked the possible development of other WR's on the roster. And, probably prevented us from being aggressive in acquiring a good one.

Zimmer's conservative approach to football on game day is really strange. We actually have kicked medium-range Field Goals, down by 20+, in the second half, with the playoffs on the line.

I don't recall any other NFL HC burning through OC's like Zimmer has. I definitely don't recall a successful HC throwing his OC under the bus to the media. Seriously, you don't know how to manage yourself, let alone the team?

Also, this might mean nothing, but I don't like that he got really fat. Mr. Hard Nose, Old School, Mr. Discipline, got fat.
It's difficult, but not impossible, to sell discipline when you demonstrate none.

His job should absolutely be on the line. This is an incredibly elite position. Perform. Win.

New stadium. Owner willing to throw money at everything. Seems like a decent gig.

We better hope that a 3rd WR emerges. We better hope that Cook stays healthy, because Mattison is barely a NFL RB.
Blasingame is the real deal. How long will it take for us to realize that? Log jammed behind Ham.

We still believe that Rudolph is a top TE in the League.

It's difficult to even speak about the Mannion/Sloter stuff.

You think the players don't know who is good and deserving? Of course they do.

Sums it up for me in a nutshell. I've been pretty sour on him since the 5-0 collapse. 2017 was really fun though. I believe that was his only chance to even sniff a superbowl and we got totally punked. I'm still going to enjoy the season through all the ups and downs.

That's not even touching on Zim's lack of time mgmt skills and bone head challenges.

Yes there is that but in the recent history of Vikings coaches who has coached up players on defense like he has? We have never had a team with a defense like this every year and complain as you will but with a defense this good our worst is .500 ball. Fix the offense and kicking bs and the rest is petty and meaningless.

Both Blasingame and Udoh need to be on the 53 man roster.

Unsure of Blasingames blocking skills but having a FB with that kind of speed would be a sneaky good weapon.

100% agree. They could drop nearly all but the clearly established WR & LB and pick most of them up later as many would go unclaimed-or sign a comparable replacement. They need to think of value above replacement more than #s needed to conventionally fill a position group.

Udoh is like getting a bonus 1st or 2nd round RT w/ huge upside. He steamrolls the opposition with regularity and routinely continues mauling to the 2nd level. He moves much better than I remember Loadholt moving and clearly loves the game much more/plays harder than the former 1st round LT who was aka "tub of goo"or McFatty around here.

Blasingame could also fill in some at HB and it would seem that he could also be a nice h-back/TE as he catches the ball very naturally and creates matchup problems due to his combination of size and speed.

I saw that Cronin thinks we'll keep Cole Hikutini and drop Sloter. I can't even find words for this other than just compare what you think each could bring in a trade...and she'd cut Sloter. Seriously?

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2019 10:32:27 AM)

Agree that Blasingame has unique potential ... Ham has been a part of the ‘plan’ all offseason (just like Mannion, Beebe, Morgan) - I don’t see a lot of open-mindedness being given to their competition on the roster ... guess we’ll find out soon enough.

RB Mattison, TE Smith, TE Dillon, FB Blasingame, WR Johnson, C Bradbury, OT Udoh ...
that’s a great young infusion to push forward ... if you have the balls to do it.

Shewt - add Sloter to that mix and you’ve injected a whole new group of plug and play rookies in one offseason.

Of those, I think Dillon is least likely to make the final 53. I like him a lot.

I hope Zimmer realizes his job (security) could be in jeopardy. I hope that propels him into a less conservative approach. I think it would suck to have to start all over again.

Big season for all. The way it should be.

I think Kubiak could step right in and give it one more shot with Cousins before it all gets blown up and they start over.

Defense is getting older and too expensive to keep them all. I think the window is this year and next, after that a rebuild is likely.

I saw this and realized I no longer pine over every recently cut safety. We're good there. There was a time I never thought that would be the case.

Now, could he be a LB? Didn't work in Washington.

I think of Andy Ried, Mike McCarthy's later Packer years, Denny Green. Has any fat HC won a Super Bowl ?

Hank Stram, John Madden.

This discussion is silly.

Risk blindness in one eye, says the Vikings winning a Super Bowl is more important to him than the vision in that eye.

But he's got no self discipline.

BTW I hadn't noticed that he got fat. Guess I haven't seen him in his speedo.

what i noticed this preseason was that zimmer seemed to have lost weight...he looked 25 pounds heavier last year....

what's bothering me about this team right now is cj ham...i find it ridiculous that we would keep ham over blasingame, or keep two fb's....

i see keeping ham totally as a gift to ham - local boy, graduated college, good husband/father..,good example overall...let him playout the final year of his deal...i absolutely guarantee that he won't be on the final 53 next season....

The Vikings do seem to cycle through fullbacks.

Richard Neussendorfer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2019 12:52:34 PM)

I'd like to keep Blasingame too! He's looked great to me.

Dave Odle -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2019 1:00:00 PM)

LB Brandon Marshall cut by Raiders.

kgdabom -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2019 1:21:13 PM)

Seems of the possible cuts we almost all want to keep Samia, Blasingame, and Udoh. We all want to not only keep Sloter, but some would like to elevate him to #1. A lot of love for Hercules and Watts as well. Does that sum things up pretty well?

This is exactly what I would do. I don't like keeping 3 QBs, but that's gonna happen. I think Collins goes on the PUP. I think less of Ham in comparison to the new guy just because he's so much harder to defend. But I expect they'll keep both.

I agree.

This provides an ideal opportunity to compare the collective wisdom of talkvikes with that of Courtney Cronin, the ESPN Vikings expert. Of the four offensive players you mention, she only has Samia on the 53.

Are you smarter than a Vikings media expert?

kept six lb's - all the young ones with more than a year left on their current contract....

kept four cb's - i have to think that we'll keep five...hughes missed the entire offseason training - is he really ready to step up if one goes down?...we'll keep five....

kept ham - i wonder if we cut him once morgan is ready?....

cuts vedvik - i would keep him over wile just to see if we can develop him into something special....

i think that watts, samia, and udoh are players that have a high ceiling with coaching/development...next season they'll equate to a handfull of 3rd round picks...blasingame is an unusual specimen and absolutely has to be kept....

i would let ham go now to help keep the players above....
