I would not be surprised if Treadwell sticks. Beebe is small, and frankly, has done nothing (imo) to warrant staying on the team.

I'm not advocating for Treadwell, but honestly, he's done more than Beebe.

Odenigbo is off the roster. I thought he had a chance to stick.

Sure it wasn't Tito?

It was. My mistake. Vikings Corner is getting the cuts posted pretty quick.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/31/2019 10:27:22 AM)

Karter Schult released. Reportedly he was believing he would make the team.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/31/2019 10:29:10 AM)

This just in. He's fast.

Mark Fields didn't get many starting snaps at Clemson and was an undrafted rookie in '19. He could play in the slot or outside. Fields runs a 4.37 40-yard dash and had 18 bench press reps. He is the son of former Saints/Panthers LB Mark Fields. #Vikings

Treadwell cut.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/31/2019 10:33:37 AM)

Mark Fields' college PFF grades were mediocre -- 66.8 in coverage and 64.7 overall -- but his results were great.

Allowed only 6 receptions for 73 yards on 25 targets, with 4 pass deflections. He was 4th in the country in yards/cover snap and 4th in cover snaps/reception. https://t.co/kCzMX5PUkd

At this moment the Vikings are at 69. I don't know if they are done acquiring players from other teams. (perhaps a receiver?) There could still be more activity like that after 3:00 with additional cuts.

Does Treadwell have any chance of making the cut?

Zero

I might keep him over Beebe, but I don't think the team would. Other than salary, what does Beebe have over Treadwell? (Getting open in practice doesn't count.)

That was my reasoning, but apparently he's done. I hope they pick someone up with some size and talent, but was let go because he was caught up in the numbers/cap game.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/31/2019 11:31:05 AM)

Overview
Fields' draft stock has taken an upward turn after a strong second-half performance against Alabama and a solid week of work at the Senior Bowl. He's combination of strength, speed and explosiveness should serve him well as he transitions inside. His lack of experience shows up in his technique and pattern recognition, but with time, his athletic traits and natural man cover talent could give him a chance to be a starting nickel.

Strengths
Productive and competitive throughout the postseason
Twitchy and explosive
Limited tape shows player with natural cover talent
Athletic traits to become more adept as pattern matcher
Furious foot quickness in tight quarters
Multi-stepper for controlled closeouts in space
Above average play strength for size
Strikes with some aggression to disrupt catch
Reaches top-end speed quickly and sustains it downfield
Plays with grit in run support
Successful leg attacks as solo tackler.

Weaknesses
Only six career starts with limited playing time at Clemson
Backpedal is a little stiff and labored
Frenetic and lacking fluidity in his play
Drifts from his technique at times
Struggled finding football downfield against A&M
Momentary stall when transitioning forward from pedal
Needs better eye-balance from off-man
Overly responsive to route fakes and loses position at times

great speed and nice that he's out of clemson - as is kearse and alexander...they could help usher him into the fold...however, i was expecting someone with a little more seasoning....

Vikings are putting tight end David Morgan on the PUP list to start the regular season, according to a league source.

Ben Goessling@GoesslingStrib
A point to ponder on Laquon Treadwell: He's got offset language in his contract, meaning the Vikings could recoup part of the $1.15 million in guaranteed money they still owe him if they cut him and he signs somewhere else.

For those worried about us signing Browning instead of Jackson.

Bills waived QB Tyree Jackson.
Jackson shined in Buffalo's preseason finale — completing 22-of-33 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 78 yards and another score. The Bills likely want to stash Jackson on the practice squad, but he's not guaranteed to clear waivers.

I bet they are going ballistic on the Bills Boards demanding the head of the GM.

Report:

Vikings to release Laquon Treadwell if trade partner can’t be found

Vikings to keep David Morgan on PUP List

Laquon Treadwell’s Vikings tenure came to an end Saturday but he’s optimistic he will succeed in the NFL with a fresh start.

The wide receiver said he was called into the office of Vikings general manager Rick Spielman and told he would be released by 3 p.m., when NFL rosters must be cut to 53, if a trade couldn’t be worked out. Treadwell has been a big disappointment since being taken with the No. 23 pick in the 2016 NFL draft.

“Mr. Spielman told me how much I’ve grown as a person and as a player and just how much he appreciated me being a pro with my character through the adversity,’’ Treadwell told the Pioneer Press in a phone interview.

Treadwell was asked why he struggled with the Vikings, catching just 56 passes in three seasons.

“Time just ran out for me with the Vikings,’’ he said. “That’s part of the business. But being a high draft pick, I didn’t play up to my potential. But I’ve grown. I’m ready for a fresh start. I think it will help being around new faces.

Treadwell is optimistic that he will do better with another NFL team.

“I feel I’m the comeback kid,’’ he said. “I’m not going to dwell on this and cry and feel sorry for myself. I’m going to do everything I can to be the comeback kid.’’

Treadwell said the “timing” just never worked out in Minnesota for him. He caught just one pass as a rookie and said Saturday that serious leg and ankle injuries he suffered at Mississippi in 2014 was a factor in his slow start.

The Vikings did not pick up his contract option last spring, and Treadwell said he didn’t believe he got much of a chance to succeed entering this season. He got few practice reps with the first team.

“I think it was in the air from the beginning this year that I wasn’t going to get many chances,’’ Treadwell said.

Minnesota elected to go with young receivers over Treadwell. Expected to make the roster after starters Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs are rookie Olabisi Johnson and second-year men Chad Beebe and Brandon Zylstra.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/31/2019 12:22:47 PM)

I imagine being Treadwell was a 1st rd pick he will get a chance somewhere.

But seriously, if you can't make our teams weak wr depth chart....

#Vikings RB Mike Boone is safely on the roster again, I've been told. No surprise there.
