Aren't all universities going through the same thing?

yeah

Just thinking maybe Coyle has laid down some bad news for staff in the wake of all this?

Maybe Trachsel just likes the state of Mississippi better....

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Softball (4/24/2020 1:55:22 PM)

She might just figure that she has a better chance of building a national power in the sun belt.

Per the headline, apparently security was big as well;

Rejected a one year deal from Coyle; would guess she got a longer deal at Ole Miss.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Softball (4/24/2020 2:42:11 PM)

Softball coach Trachsel leaving U for Ole Miss after rejecting one-year contract.

That's what happens spending all that time in the Country Music thread.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Softball (4/28/2020 10:32:38 AM)

Looks like Trachsel is getting a massive raise from Ole Miss. He contract is 4 years at $245,000 per year. She is also getting $220,000 per year for assistant coaches.

Dang, and she was only offered a one-year deal at the U.

Can't blame her for heading south.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Softball (4/28/2020 11:29:58 AM)

Trachsel made 140K last year at MN.

really a no-brainer with that package offered.

She was offered a multi year deal and turned it down and then later she was offered the one year deal. The U just wasn't going to match that kind of money.

Ole Miss has some deep pockets for softball apparently.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Softball (4/28/2020 11:47:37 AM)

They better spend some $ reinforcing those scoreboard supports. [X(]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Softball (4/28/2020 11:54:14 AM)

It's bizarre, when you think of the timelines.

They'd still be playing and Trachsel probably would not have bolted yet.

Might have been a helluva year too.
The U is starting to produce pretty damn good teams in lots of sports.
As you say, sad to see it all POOF!

The new coach will at least have the benefit of the seniors who were all given an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA. That group includes Amber Fiser.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Softball (4/28/2020 12:12:38 PM)

Coyle has had a pretty good history finding Softball and Volleyball coaches. I think he will grab another.

Promoting from within

University of Minnesota Athletics Director Mark Coyle announced today that Piper Ritter has been named head softball coach at the University of Minnesota!

Ritter has been an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota since the 2008 season churning out the top hurlers in program history. She has been a mainstay in the Minnesota softball world since her days as a top pitcher from 2001-2004.

“I am excited for the future of our softball program,” said Athletics Director Mark Coyle. “Piper has been part of our team for nearly two decades, and she is the right person for the job. She was one of the best players ever to wear the Maroon and Gold and consistently developed All-American talent as an assistant coach.”

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Softball (5/3/2020 6:11:31 PM)

I read that Mississippi is paying Trachsel more than Minnesota pays John Anderson.

Ritter is supposed to be the pitcher whisperer. She has had a hell of a run developing pitchers here.

MaKenna Partain is returning for one more year, like Fizer.

https://gophersports.com/news/2020/5/27/softball-ritter-names-carly-wynn-associate-head-coach.aspx

Carly Wynn has been named the Gopher softball associate head coach after most recently spending 2016 through the 2020 shortened season at Arizona State University as an assistant coach, head coach Piper Ritter announced Wednesday.

"I am excited to announce Carly Wynn as my first hire to the gopher softball coaching staff," Ritter said. "Carly brings a wealth of knowledge with her to Minnesota and is an exciting addition to our program. She was an outstanding player for the Florida State Seminoles where she amassed several offensive records. She was applauded for her scholastic achievements and was proficient in all aspects of the game. Her knowledge of the game and her experience recruiting student-athletes for multiple conferences will be an asset for Gopher softball. She is a great fit for this organization and will provide an immediate positive impact."

Wynn helped Arizona State to a 135-57 record with a 2018 Women's College World Series appearance in her time as an assistant there. She was the team's lead recruiting coordinator, camp director and was in charge of alumni outreach. On the offensive side, Wynn assisted with all aspects of hitting and was in charge of short game, slappers and baserunning. On the defensive side, she coached an outfield that saw two 2019 All-American honorees in Morgan Howe (First Team) and Kindra Hackbarth (Third Team).

Former HC Trachsel went to Ole Miss

now an investigation into assistant coach misconduct

Members from Ole Miss’ softball coaching staff are under a Title IX investigation after complaints were filed against assistant Katie Rietkovich Browder for her involvement in a sexual misconduct case involving two players from the team.
The team’s head coach, Jamie Trachsel, has also been cited in the report for knowing of the situation, but remaining silent on the misconduct from Browder.
