Gee. So close. We almost won.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2019/2020 Season (10/31/2019 9:00:56 AM)

Jason Zucker is the Andrew Wiggins of the NHL. Got caught up watching the puck off the face off, while his man skates wide open to the slot to receive the pass and score the winning goal. Can't blame that one on NTG at all.

Very good comp

That was the first name that popped into my head when they showed behind the net replay of the goal. Staal lost the draw and Zucker just stood straight up and stayed in no man's land watching the puck on the left side of the ice while Pietrangelo cruised up the right slot that Zucker was supposed to be defending. I thought, how many times have I seen Wiggins do that same thing for the Wolves.

SoMnFan -> RE: Wild 2019/2020 Season (10/31/2019 1:02:48 PM)

and ... brooding, flighty, and in need of constant stroking.
If Wiggins finds a wife who the clowns at KFAN can slobber over, they could be the same person.

Just watch the film of the winning goal......Zucker = Wiggins is a great comparison.

How come we keep getting these slugs on our teams?

Zucker is so good we protected him in the expansion draft.

So … heres what really pisses me off
Watching the Preds/Flames last night
Nothing special about the Flames, they're ok
Remember .. Rinne in goal for Preds
Greatest goalie in the history of hockey, remember? Every Wild player and every FSN announcer made us aware of that fact … greatest goalie in history
Because we can't score on him
Flames put SIX on him
SIX
Win in OT
SIX

I said SIX.

Preacher, I'm sitting here in the choir and I hear you loud and clear. It just shows how goalies get in the Wild's heads. This team just creates self fulfilling prophecies.

When our leading scorer is a defenseman that couldn't even get on the ice for Vegas it tells you all you need to know about our team.

SoMnFan -> RE: Wild 2019/2020 Season (11/1/2019 9:27:02 AM)

Two great posts

Its ridiculous

They've now got the sheep pretty much convinced its not OUR problem, its the unfair nature of our bad luck and bad breaks.
No, its because we pay guys to score that can't score.

God bless Hunt-types. They have been the only thing redeemable about this franchise the last couple years
Spurgeon carried that torch awhile, an overachiever, and now he's even falling into the overpaid trap
Seeler, great story who can't get on the ice, even tho we have 2-3 D men a night costing us games.
Hell, Prosser was even a warrior you could pull for.
Foligno, great dude with a mission.
We like these guys and pull for them, because they are what they are without the bullshit.
Scorers who don't score are irritating
Much like well-paid goalies who don't stop pucks

Five players who need to step up for Wild to turn things around

By DANE MIZUTANI | dmizutani@pioneerpress.com | Pioneer Press

ST. LOUIS — As Wild players slowly peeled off their equipment in the wake of another frustrating loss, they spoke with a confusing sense of optimism. Confusing because after Thursday’s 2-1 loss at Enterprise Center, Minnesota’s NHL team is off to its worst start since its inaugural season of 2001-01.

Hidden beneath the surface of the 4-9-0 record, coach Bruce Boudreau said, were sustained stretches of solid play. At some point, he added, the Wild will rattle off a handful of wins and get right back into the Central Division race.

“I think in defeat this was a really positive thing for us,” he said. “It’s not going to be easy, but if we can build off it, that’s what we want to do.”

It would help if some of the Wild’s struggling veterans started pulling their own weight.

“You give them enough rope, and show confidence in them by keeping them out there, (and hope) that eventually they’re going to pay it back and start scoring,” Boudreau said. “They are going to end up scoring, and when they do that, our balance, I think, will pay off.”

Here are five players who need to step up if the Wild are going to turn things around starting Saturday against the Blues at Xcel Energy Center.

5. DEVAN DUBNYK
There’s no way around it: Devan Dubnyk has been the second-best goaltender on the team this season, looking more like the backup than backup Alex Stalock. He has a 2-6-0 record to go with a 3.65 goals-against average (50th in the NHL, so far) and a .885 save percentage (49th). If the Wild are going to have any chance of turning things around, Dubnyk needs to look like a No. 1 goaltender again.

4. MATT DUMBA
It’s not that Matt Dumba has necessarily underachieved to this point; he’s still one of the top point producers on the team. It’s just that he hasn’t scored goals at the clip the Wild require. After teasing back in training camp that he was eyeing a potential 30-goal campaign, Dumba is nowhere near that pace — one goal in 13 games. Dumba would be the first person to acknowledge he needs to be more of a scoring threat from the blue line.

3. KEVIN FIALA
It’s not Kevin Fiala’s fault that former general manager Paul Fenton pegged him as a potential game-breaker. Nonetheless, that moniker is going to follow him for the rest of his career — at least while’s in Minnesota — and he’s looked like anything but. Fiala is without a goal and already has been scratched a couple of times because of irresponsible play. Fiala, 23, seems to have all the tools to be a dynamic player, but he made his NHL in 2014-15 and one can’t help but wonder if he’s ever going to figure it out.

2. MATS ZUCCARELLO
The Wild’s big fish in free agency, Mats Zuccarello has been a passenger so far. He hasn’t looked like much of a playmaker and has only one goal and two assists in nine games. To be fair, a lower-body injury clearly hindered his game early, and Zuccarello claims to be feeling “more comfortable with the puck” as of late, so maybe he’s on the verge of breaking out.

1. ZACH PARISE
Take away a fluke goal off his backside, and a rather meaningless empty-netter, and Zach Parise has one goal that he actually created himself. So far, the $98 Million Man has looked like an aging veteran fighting it in both ends. And while Parise, 35, thinks he’s getting close, talk is cheap; he’s making $9 million in the eighth year of a 13-year contract and needs to start playing like it.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2019/2020 Season (11/1/2019 9:55:33 AM)

I agree with Zach and NTG. But how do Staal, Zucker and the great Mikko Koivu get passes in this article?

The point is, I don't know why Mizutani is listing guys like Fiala and Dumba over Staal, Suter, Zucker and the great Mikko Koivu.

Yep...it should be 10 players not 5.....add those three and I would put Brodin and Suter in there.

Ding ding ding on every post here
Great article, only issue with it is not nailing them all to the cross.
FINALLY some Zach and Dubnyk truth, tho
Baby steps.

SCRATCHG a couple of the vets, Brucie
SCRATCH them
Face it, you're a dead man walking
SCRATCH a couple.
I think you might be surprised what happens.

Scratch them and let some young, hungry guys come up from Iowa.

Wow, after last nights BS NHL game in St Paul I wonder why I even bother any more. A terrible team, in a terrible city, with a terrible owner, in a terrible league.....thanks Common. May as well start watching Monday Night Raw instead of the WWNHL. We are the Sod Buster Kenny Jay of the league! No respect from Bettman or his clown refs.

And by that I mean.

Bench the NTD guys (or don't play them) and play as many kids as we can. Let them ruffle feathers so they may waive it.

Yes please!

MDK -> RE: Wild 2019/2020 Season (11/3/2019 11:17:46 AM)

Sure seemed like Parise had a lot of ice time in the OT......when you go 3 on 3. Lot of ice time for a player that is 35 years old.

St. Louis kept control of the puck and normal shifts were made. Wild were constantly out of breath and slower than the Blues.

The younger lines always had more pressure on the Blues in regulation than the old, vet lines.

Suter looks old and slow.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2019/2020 Season (11/3/2019 11:33:01 AM)

I actually think BB is going to keep playing them until he's gone. He is stuck with a bunch of old, lazy, overpaid NTD guys that are done. He has really been given no choice but to play what he has.....which will end his run here.

SoMnFan -> RE: Wild 2019/2020 Season (11/4/2019 10:16:34 AM)

Not giving anyone any breaks here … but the only thing worse than sucking …. is getting treated like shit by the officials on top of it.
Total, complete disrespect.
I had hoped BB would improve that here, but its gotten worse.
The refs knew they were giving it to us, and they did not care. usually, they're such pussies they eventually make it up to you … this group didn't even care about that.
Screwed us and just kept it up.
Just because the Blues won a miraculous title, that doesn't somehow immediately make them untouchable and the shining star of the league.
BETTMAN's running a slimy outfit. No surprise.

I agree to a point, but there is also this; when a true contending team gets the shit end of the stick on a call (it does happen, though admittedly, not often) they don't go into pissy sulk mode like the wild did. Those teams get pissed off and come back at you twice as hard.

12 days coming up on the road
This ought to go great.
