Expect the Falcons to load the box. Play action might help against that.

Play action is going to help us against everything we go up against unless we simply never generate a rushing game.

I do love this blocking scheme for Dalvin though. Stick his foot in the ground after he finds a hole moving laterally and explode. Also works great in play action to give Cousins more time. We are not going to be a downhill, road grating offense.

With the size of our OLine (or lack thereof) this is our best shot at having success.

Looking at the depth chart we can see that Abdullah is the kick and punt returner. I believe that's why he's on the team. I did think that he had more juice as a returner than any of the others.

The ball certainly comes out of his grasp with more juice.

IF defenses go with a lot of run blitzes we have to make them pay with play action/roll outs/quick hitters/misdirection to back them out of it. This often equates to what seems like a check down offense. The need to consistently make plays to move the ball down field requires mistake free football, defenses are looking for the one screw up by the offense that puts the offense in a bad way, 2nd and 15, 3 and 10 etc that allows the defense to dictate. This is essentially the defense that limited the Vikes offense in early 1999 after the record breaking 1998 season.

Mike Zimmer said Brian O'neill will play Sunday.

Ben Goessling@GoesslingStrib
Mike Zimmer said Mike Hughes is "getting real close" to a return. We'll see what that means, but Zimmer sounded more optimistic about the Vikings' cornerback depth.

The Cowboys are paying #1 money to their RB, RG, possibly QB & WR.. top 10 LT $, top 5 RT $..

All to keep together the 24th ranked DVOA offense.

That's what Abdullah does. Just hold on to the ball.

Abdullah had 5 fumbles his rookie year (2015)!!!

However, in the three years since, he has had 3 fumbles on 239 RUSH/REC/RET touches.

Dalvin Cook had 2 fumbles last season ... on 173 RUSH/REC touches.

Because of his rookie year, Abdullah will always seem like a fumble waiting to happen but he has certainly improved on it.

They have managed their cap pretty well...before signing Zeke and Collings they have 20 million in cap space

Great news!!

Big question mark answered heading into the game. ONeil >>>>>> Hill

Hope we can kick Hill to the curb sooner rather than later.

Hope O'neill is ready, hasn't got a lot of game work this preseason.

Good research. I'm remembering the problems he had at Nebraska.
I also remember 2 years ago when the Vikings couldn't tackle him when Detroit beat us at Home.

Diggs has hammy issue, getting in midseason form right off...

Also speculation Diggs is seeking a bump in his pay...

I guess a 4th-string scrub TE is more important than making sure the OL is a little more solid, especially since Elf is struggling. Rick must be in pain to lose the 7th he gave up for Jones.

I wonder if part of getting the punter who can hold is so well is so Beebe can be dumped if he keeps imitating Treadwell. I'm good with giving Docston a shot, even though Zimmer can't be happy about his lack of ST play and poor blocking.

I think keeping 10 of the 12 they drafted this year was a bigger key....they also put the other 2 on the PS. Can't keep them all but they have kept a majority of their picks on the roster.

You keep bringing this up. Guess the roster wasn't as good/deep as you thought. And they couldn't afford to do much more than bring in a bunch of lower picks.
