It might be insult added to injury this Sunday:

Ex-#Vikings star RB Chuck Foreman on Adrian Peterson facing Vikings in perhaps his last career game: “It might be the best time to give (the ball) to him because the Vikings don’t seem to be tackling anybody. If I’m Detroit, I’m giving it to him and let him run.’’

(Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/29/2020 2:42:27 PM)

For those who think that the Vikings should have kept Teddy as the starter:

Fewest TD Passes,
w/at Least 14 Starts in Season,
since 2015:

C. Newton = 5 (2020)
D. Kizer = 11 (2017)
J. Brissett = 13 (2017)
M. Mariota = 13 (2017)
T. Bridgewater = 14 (2015)
T. Taylor = 14 (2017)
T. Bridgewater = 15 (2020)
B. Osweiler = 15 (2016)
A. Smith = 15 (2016)

The good thing is Lance only played one game this year----might help him drop to us.

Might have to hold onto Barr for another year & they picked up a ton of defense last draft.

I actually think Lance will still be there for our first pick

Great.

Then I'll have one more thing to be pissed about when we draft a defensive player instead of him.

Same thought
It's more of a "hope" than a fact
But I do think Trey's rep is much larger in our region, than other areas.
He might be a guy who just sits in the waiting room awhile.

As much as its absolutely the right move, I don't see us drafting a QB.

I think Spielman and Zimmer know they're on thin ice and they're going to draft for 2021 and not beyond.

Its not like we have forward thinkers in the organization as it is...

Rosen was sitting there for cheap....don't understand why they don't throw some capital at backup QB or try to upgrade QBOTF (for even pennies). Philly has Wentz locked up and drafted Hurts in 2nd.....now they will get capital for Wentz.

Time to draft one......EARLY.

We have plenty of talent on offense.

Minnesota Vikings:
The #Vikings have signed G Kyle Hinton (@BigMyke_Hinton) to the active roster and placed TE Kyle Rudolph on IR.

Sam Ekstrom:
Perhaps an opportunity on Sunday to see Hinton at left guard for some or all of the game.

As for Kyle Rudolph, he'll end up missing the final four games of the season.

RUdy's Likely played his last game for the Vikings.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/29/2020 4:00:08 PM)

Rudolf's best season was 2016 when he saw an astonishing 132 targets. With those 132 looks he hauled in 83 catches for 840 yards and 7 TDs. This season, with one game left that has massive garbage stats written all over it, Irv Jr. has received 40 targets. With those 40 looks he hauled in 28 catches for 355 yards and 5 TDs. If we gave him 132 targets maybe he would have had 92 catches for 1172 yards and 17 TDs. Granted we'd then know nothing about Jefferson and Thielen would be booking a one-way ticket to Buffalo but who knows.

Diggs isn't going to coexist with Zimmer. IMO Zimmer isn't a good enough coach to allow him to runoff star caliber talent.

Zimmer: 7 seasons. 3 Playoff appearances.

Childress: 4 seasons. 2 Playoff appearances.

(Denny made the Playoffs 8 times in 9 years in comparison)

Zimmer playoff record: 2-3

Childress playoff record: 1-2

Green playoff record: 4-8

But we love Zimmer because he's a 'tough guy'.

Would you rather have Matt Patricia? Had a couple of snake bites in there too (Seattle FG miss game). You find me a Lombardi out there an I am game for firing Zimmer.....but if we get Steckle.

The one thing that Zimmer hasn't received is the QB play but most of it is due to injury......

No, people don't love Zimmer because of that---he can coach defense but he hasn't got the QB yet, Cousins has probably been the best QB we have had....

Yes I want Patricia or possibly Steckle. That's what you got from my post?

Waiting on what coach you think is out there....or do you just want him fired.

Same with Cousins....need a better one before you get rid of him.

Well I began the day by posting about the packers finally dumping McCarthy after many many seasons of not living up to expectations. Somehow they managed to find a good coach. I heard it was down to Matt LeFluer, Matt Patricia, and Les Steckel in the final interviews.

I meant it in a way that (those Assistants look awesome) and they turn into Seckel and Patricia.

Should have kept Stepanski. We had our own young head coach.

Les Steckel is 74 years old and hasn't been in football since 2003

Agree about Stefanski.

Wilf Bros should have turned the page with Paton as GM and Stefanski as HC

I agree good discussion on coaching candidates.

It's neither here nor there – Zimmer will be our coach next year, Spielman our GM. Cousins our QB.

Doesn't hurt to fantasize though. I wish it were not so, I guess we'll find out for sure pretty quickly after next Sunday.

I fully expect a press conference with Mark Wilf talking about how crazy 2020 was and their confidence in the pieces in place, etc. (Deep down, I'm sure the owners are thinking 'playoffs in 2015, 2017, 2019 ... so 2021 is destined for a return to the playoffs ... that's one more year of not having to make the hard decision in public').

I think the Wilfs have been great owners in terms of providing the franchise with whatever resources / facilities it needs (and then some) ... they seem pretty hands off in the actual shaping of the team.

.........

Like the owners, I really believe Spielman and Zimmer will have the team in contention again next year. I think we underestimate just how exceptionally 'barely good enough' they are at putting together playoff contending teams.

Unlike the owners, I recognize that returning to the playoffs in 2021 only means an abysmal, demoralizing loss (in the playoffs) to a team with a smarter coach, an nfl caliber OL, and a QB with some big game cajones – and that the playoff loss is really just the start of another miserable cycle with this regime, not a reason to raise expectations for the following season.

Enough.

Spot on post. We're also stuck with Barr, who's a good player but wildly overpaid for his production. With the obvious cuts that are coming due to cap space, coupled with the obvious needs of the team, RS pretty much has no choice but to draft/sign players that we've been clamoring for for years.

Out:
Reiff
Rudy
Harris
Stephen (possibly)
Smith - reworked contract
Barr - reworked contract

Must haves:
2 OG
1 3T DT
1 S
1 QBOTF
Depth everywhere

Will he actually do such a good enough job that we don't crash and burn in the playoffs (again)? Hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes...

If we cut Reiff - and that very well could be the right move - add LT to that must have list. At worst, Reiff was an average LT this year, and might have been better. It's a pretty bit leap to think Cleveland (or whoever else) will slide right in and equal his production.

Similar to Mackensie, Trae, Everson, and Linval last year. Likely was the right move to not pay any of them huge money (although I think Zim burned bridges with Mac by playing him in meaningless game 17 where he got hurt), but I always cringed when people were like 'good riddance'. It isn't easy to just draft or get free agents to replace even average production. We may find the same when we (rightfully) don't sign Harris. That said, I don't think we miss Rudolph. Good dude - his production is pretty easily replaced IMO.

I'm afraid we're really gonna miss Reiff...

I think Ezra's done very well switching sides and playing a new position. He has troubles with bull rushers, it seems a move to T would improve his play. Add in another year of weight training and a chance to continue to improve his technique, and I think he could do quite well.

I'd go Ezra, Dozier, Bradbury, Udoh, ONeil this Sunday.

Ezra played LT in college and the team definitely planned to use him as a backup at the position while he got stronger and learned the NFL. Problem was, RS blew it so badly at OG that they had to plug him in. I agree, he'll have some growing pains and might take a bit to get to Reiff's average level of play, but hopefully he catches on quickly and becomes the very good LT he was projected to be. Lot's of question marks for the oline next year. If RS actually signs some real offensive guards there may be some hope. Either way, we're so up against the cap that its going to be next to impossible for RS to keep Reiff next year. Even if they let Harris leave via FA (they will), the team will still be 5 mil over the cap next year.

It's going to be hard to improve the Oline if we cut our most consistent guy playing the most difficult spot. There will surely be growing pains for Ezra at LT but it is a move that probably about has to be made cap wise (thanks Rick).

The G position will then have two holes. Heard they moved one of the 7th rd guys up to the 53 but I highly doubt this guy would be an answer. Unsure why Udoh hasn't been given a shot at G. This coaching staff needs to explore all players being Spielman simply won't invest in the position.

Oh Great shit.

wouldn't it be great to lose to the woebegone Lions on Sunday because we can't field a team worth a shit?

Someone suggested the Lions give AD the ball all day long since we have a defense that thinks tackling isn't part of the job and let him play what could very well be his last game like it was his first.

Wouldn't it be something for the Lions to put a pasting on us with AD going off for over 150 yards etc.

It would help our draft standing but I really don't want to be embarassed by the Lions.
