The original news sounded really bad for his legs, but they just talked about a report from the EMT's who pulled him from the car and they said he was alert and talking to them, and they even helped him stand (although nothing about him actually taking any steps).
He still needed surgery, but boy, the first reports and the visual of that crushed engine block gave visions of crushed legs as a possibility. Hopefully he'll have a full recovery... and then he needs to hire a driver.
