Loved that one.

That was during our "Golden Age" of trading. It seemed like every year we'd sign a reclamation project, build up their value and then at the deadline, Ryan would trade them to a team for a little known prospect that they were barely aware of, and he'd turn out to be a stud.

Wow! I thought it was later in the season. One of those trades that only goes thru after the player clears waivers. Guess not. I didn't really like my guess.

Since the Johan deal technically wasn't a rule 5 draft pick, this is one of the best they ever did on Rule 5
12-04-1989 Selected by Minnesota Twins from San Diego Padres in the Rule 5 major league draft (December 4, 1989).

I guess Papi would have had to 'roid in MN for that to have occurred.

We had a few good ones with the Mariners. This must be where I had the Roberto Kelly connection with the Mariners in my mind.

August 20, 1997: The Seattle Mariners sent Jeromy Palki and Joe Mays to the Minnesota Twins for Roberto Kelly.

Yup, Shane Mack is one of the greatest Rule 5 picks in MLB history.

Definitely a good trade, as great as Viola was. Tapani and Aguilera were rocks for this franchise for a long time.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Greatest trades in Twins history (10/16/2020 12:18:59 PM)

This one has yet to really pan out at all

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired switch-hitting infielder Eduardo Escobar from the Minnesota Twins on Friday for minor league right-hander Jhoan Duran and outfielders Gabriel Maciel and Ernie De La Trinidad.

If acquiring Kevin Jepsen is near the top....AHHHH! I tried to forget that guy.

Yeah, the trade deadline has not been very stellar in franchise history.

twinsfan -> RE: Greatest trades in Twins history (10/16/2020 12:21:25 PM)

The jewel for the Twins out of this ended up being Kinney. Though he was only up for two seasons, he was able to soak up some innings as a ground ball pitcher.

[:-]

twinsfan -> RE: Greatest trades in Twins history (10/16/2020 12:21:44 PM)

Kinney was actually OK. But a jewel? OH BOY!

There are few gems of any sort in a lot of those deals

OCAB was a good get for not much.

But again, overall the trade deadline has been not all that great in Twins history.

twinsfan -> RE: Greatest trades in Twins history (10/16/2020 12:26:20 PM)

Who did you guys like better?

Marcus Jensen or Danny Ardoin?
