Looks like the bottom end of our roster is much better than past years.

The problem has typically been with the other end of our end of our roster.

Our starters cat do it all. We have revamped our roster from top to bottom. The players are much more talented and all fit together.

For long stretches our starters couldn't do it AT all. I appreciate improved depth, but it will really come down to the core guys.

I agree with you that's why we have much better starters.

Hats4Bats -> RE: Wolves 2020 (12/11/2020 12:02:23 PM)

Overnight in case you ALL MISSED IT?[&:]

Report: Timberwolves Part Ways With GM Scott Layden

One of the last remaining remnants of the Tom Thibodeau era is officially gone.

As you surely remember, Scott Layden was brought in back in 2016 when Thibs was hired as president of basketball operations. While Layden was technically the General Manager of the team, it was Thibs who was calling all the shots, which left Layden as somewhat of a figure head in the front office. When Thibs was eventually let go back in 2019, Layden stayed on in a reduced scouting capacity, but his tenure in Minnesota was definitely one marked by diminished authority and questionable transactions. Prior to coming over to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Layden worked four years as an assistant to Spurs president R.C. Buford and before that served previously as the GM of the Utah Jazz and New York Knicks (another Thibs connection!)

Sounds like he did a lot of the scouting on Edwards. Also, Rosas and he had a good relationship and he wanted to spend more time at his home in the NYC area.

Wow, those practices much be incredibly well structured.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Wolves 2020 (12/13/2020 7:35:33 AM)

Jaylen Nowell 4-7/Russell 2-3 on 3Ptrs in the preseason opener loss by 2

Save the the rest of the 3-point "shooters"

Edwards 1-5
Towns 0-5
Hernangomez 0-4

Edwards was 2-9 on the game. Logged 26 minutes
Culver 1-4 in 21 minutes

Rubio a dozen minutes 3-7/5REB 2 Assists

Looked like a preseason game without much practice. Still players looked confused.

At least the players on the top to bottom revamped roster are much more talented and all fit together. [;)]

TJSweens -> RE: Wolves 2020 (12/18/2020 9:50:28 AM)

It's only preseason, but we had a Jarrett Culver sighting last night. He had 18 points, while going 2/3 from 3 pt and 6/6 at the line. He also racked up 4 reb, 4 ast, 2 steals, 2 blocks and was +25.

I hope it's an omen, but with this team I have learned not to hold my breath.

At the Half they were up, and Edwards had a good first half, and massive +/- on the positive side

Would up only 5-15 for the game, so he missed a number of shots in the second half.

Hats4Bats -> RE: Wolves 2020 (12/18/2020 12:06:33 PM)

How is Saunders going to divy up minutes (especially at the guard position) Three guard offense alot?

PG D Russell, Rubio, McLaughlin, Nowell, Culver
SG M. Beasley, Russell, Edwards, Culver, Okogie
SF Layman, Okogie, Edwards, Culver, Hollis-Jefferson

I remember the days when we didn't have 2 good guards. so I shouldn't complain, right?

BUT good luck fellas. At least we can go with the hot hand.

BTW,,I really like Naz's game...fun to watch him!

I think we're going to see a lot of PG, C and 3 wings.

My guess is Layman only plays PF.

RHJ should be starting, but my gut says he's not in the regular rotation.

Naz and Davis likely fight for the scraps when KAT sits.

I initially thought McDaniels would spend the year at Iowa, but he's been way more impressive than Vanderbilt. Kid has tremendous upside.

My ideal starting line-up would be Rubio/Russell/Culver/RHJ/KAT.

I expect Saunders to go with Russell/Beasley/Okogie/Hernangomez/KAT.

Edwards and Culver should be prioritized over Okogie.

I'd like our PG rotation much better if it was Rubio/McLaughlin. I'm not a Russell fan in general, but I really hate his fit on this team.

Layman should be an energy guy off the bench. 5 minutes when he isn't good, 15 when his shot is falling.

Still not convinced Naz is a rotational player on a good team, but I'm glad to see him in better shape this year.

The team played very well against a very good Dallas team that Was playing well. The Wolves fought well all night. There are a lot of positives to take out of this game. Fun to watch moving forward.

Yes

and

UGH

Okogie had a - last night. Just not impressed.

SoMnFan -> RE: Wolves 2020 (12/18/2020 12:46:01 PM)

Started listening when we were down 10 LATE
Thought, wow, are we this bad?
Good to hear they came back
Just doesn't seem like that bad of a roster, but showed nothing in the 2 Memphis games
I get it, real show hasn't started, but a good result finally.

He really hasn't improved from his rookie year, but single game +/- doesn't tell you anything. Its much more about who you shared the floor with than anything you did yourself.

It was a pretty competitive first half, then Dallas put the screws to us in the 3rd. But for the final quarter+, the end of our bench outplayed the end of their bench.

then he was the worst of all whom he shared. -29 as one of the starters. In 18 minutes.

Only Beasley was a + of the starting 5 Russell DNP

Awesome stuff David, as usual...My gut tells me Rubio/KAT will be much better the Russell/KAT. I like Okogie, but no way am I giving him more minutes than Edwards or Culver.... We need to see these two step up for the future! I also, think Saunders is going to screw over RHJ.

Which leads me to believe that Saunders is NOT the coach for this team!

TJSweens -> RE: Wolves 2020 (12/18/2020 1:33:53 PM)

I think Okogie is as good as he is ever going to be. He should be squarely behind Culver and Edwards in the pecking order.
