I don't think it was ever questioned that he could/couldn't do his job. Everything I read/heard was that he was generally a prick to work with and everyone hated being around him. It was a "culture" thing.

3-2 final over Finland
Started slow, dominated the middle.
Not an overwhelming US squad, will be hard to pull a medal this year.

Yup, as usual without much practice time it is a lot of individual play.
Finland looked to be a more polished team while the US looked like a bunch of guys out there taking turns making rushes to the net.

Nailed it
They are scary (Finland)
Lengthy and always seem pissed off about something
They'll be a hard beat when the real play starts

I wonder if they (Finland) have a history of playing together if they look like their on the same sheet so far? I didn't watch so I have no idea and a quick check of their roster does show that a couple of them play on the same home club.

I ask because it's pretty easy to predict who is going to dominate World Cups in soccer some years and the games are very similar. When Spain won back in 2010 about half that team played for Barcelona. When Germany won in 2014 the same for Bayern. It's a system game like hockey. If you take 20 guys from 15-20 teams/systems, it's really hard to get on the same page quickly. Much easier if they are all used to playing with each other.

That's what I heard too. He was an asshole's asshole. Plus, he fired two of the best analytics people in the business. Actually he fired one and the other one just hated his guts and went to another organization.

Its exactly why they do well
I remember Nino saying when he was here, that in the smaller countries, they grow up playing with each other often
They get used to each others games, the countries are so small, they have a great familiarity with each other by the time they get to international competitions.

I guess the perfect example is Herbie's team. Mostly UofM and BU (although BU is not represented as much as you would think given the stories you hear).

USA recovered from the opening loss against Russia by trouncing Austria 11-0. In the battle of Wild prospects, Matthew Boldy had 2 goals and of course nothing from Rossi.

Hell, USA had more goals than Austria had shots. I turned it off after the 2nd period. Austrian players were all pretty much checked out by then and I kinda felt sorry for them. You could tell from the start they were way over matched playing 16 and 17 year old kids against more mature college age kids.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (12/27/2020 12:14:02 PM)

Did Rossi manage to show anything in that drubbing?

Not really. He was overwhelmed along with the rest of his team.
USA team had some jump from the start and completely controlled the play. The 1st period ended with the USA up 1-0, but it was never really that close. We outshot them like 22 - 4 and hit about 2 or 3 pipes in the 1st and their goalie was great that period.....he just plain ran out of gas after that.

SoMnFan -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (12/28/2020 7:44:55 AM)

Just an opinion, but our hopes for Rossi giving us any immediate help won't happen
A little light in the breezers yet
He'll get there, he's just not NHL heavy-ready yet
Boldy's much more capable at this point, IMO, of filling an NHL role immediately

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (12/28/2020 8:29:48 AM)

Could any of it be that Rossi is held back by an inferior roster or is he just plain not there yet?

Unfortunately we have to wait for the end of the college season for Boldy.

SoMnFan -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (12/28/2020 8:38:21 AM)

Of course he was
Wasn't trying to talk in negatives or with any finality
Just talking about what I see with them
There's a base on Boldy that Rossi doesn't have right now
Rossi of course is the better talent and has big upside
Just thinking in my own head, not to count on much from Rossi for us in 2021
And hoping I'm totally wrong

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (12/28/2020 9:14:17 AM)

So, it's a little of both. I'm just getting impatient to see the Wild's shiny new coins. We finally have a couple of high end talents on the roster. I want to see them all together.

SoMnFan -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (12/28/2020 8:16:03 PM)

Rossi with another no-show
Whupped by Sweden
66-5 on shots
Austria hasn’t scored yet. [:-]

I tuned in for a short while in the 2nd period and saw the shots at something like 34-2 and thought, what the hell is this team even doing here.
They don't belong in this tournament with all the best teams in the world.
On Rossi, I watched a few shifts and he was mostly out front watching his teammates get whooped along the boards. I will say at this point his performance in the tournament has been very underwhelming. I think he needs more time in the juniors before he will help the Wild. His first warmup game against the Swiss was his best game, and they were never really in that game either.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (12/29/2020 9:17:07 AM)

I just looked at Austria's roster. They have four 18 year olds, four 17 year olds and even a 16 year old. That is a young team. Team USA, everyone is 19 or 20.

I will reserve judgment on Rossi, until he gets to camp and is skating with a higher caliber player.

SoMnFan -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (12/29/2020 11:29:23 AM)

Nobody's burying the kid
He's the best player on an overmatched team
We won't know his full package until he plays with players better than him
You asked, and we told you how he is looking
Will be fun to see him develop

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (12/29/2020 12:46:42 PM)

I know you guys are not burying Rossi. I didn't take it that way at all. Even skating shifts with 4 guys in lederhosen against teams with rosters full of NHL draft choices, you would like to see some element of his talent stand out. Maybe see some sign that he can elevate these guys to some degree.

USA up 2-0 in the 2nd over da Czechs

stfrank -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (12/29/2020 2:50:29 PM)

3-0 when I tuned in toward the end of the 2nd.
I hope to see them finish it off with a win in a solid 3rd period.

Would be a good win
Czechs stunned Russia the other day

stfrank -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (12/29/2020 3:35:04 PM)

Really opened the flood gates in the 3rd for a 7-0 final score.
A real nice win against a good team. Maybe the announcers were right when they were saying the other day Russia played real well and the USA not so much.

Agreed. Wayne Gretzky wouldn't be able to get anything if his teammates were that weak. Can't conclude anything from that tournament. What he did in juniors is a much better indicator and he dominated.

Jezuz! Just saw a clip of Boldy scoring against the Czech Republic. Back to the goal, taps the puck between his legs, then reaches his stick through and taps it by the goalie.
