JMO, but Evanson made a huge mistake not pulling Kap at 3-1. He sucked and so did the team. I get not wanting to shake his confidence ect but what did the rest of that night do? Pull him early, talk to him to let him know that it’s not all about him, and send the msg. It was clear from the drop that we were off. He let the train get off the rails

Without the back to back I'm sure he would've. Wanted to save Talbot for tonight. Unfortunately he spit the bit late and only earned us 1 pt.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/11/2021 9:42:14 AM)

That was almost worse than 9-1. Allowed the tie with 40 seconds to go and lose it with 2 seconds to go in OT. A classic snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

kevinemmer -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/11/2021 9:45:17 AM)

The mistake was not playing Kaapo in how long?
He was was stone cold rusty playing with a flat team.
Recipe for disaster.
Man, last night stung too.
Last seconds of regulation and OT.
Line shifts were poor and guys were on too long at end of both
Shifts that gave up goals to Blues.

stfrank -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/11/2021 10:17:16 AM)

Our biggest problem in OT, and in general, is our inability to win a face off. We were chasing almost the entire OT and when we did get the puck we promptly gave it back with a shot that missed the mark.
Until we get somebody that can win a draw more than a third of the time we will constantly be playing defense. We have to be good defensively since we are always chasing and rarely in control.

kevinemmer -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/11/2021 10:58:52 AM)

That’s true ST.
And freaking O’Reilly is a Wild-killer.

Oh well, in the world of good news, Mattew Boldy scored a goal and an assist in his first game for Iowa.

No movement on the final day for trades.
I like that Guerin isn't wasting draft picks for rentals.
Let the team we have see what they can do in the playoffs and work from there.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/13/2021 12:27:07 PM)

Was mildly surprised that 11 wasn't moved but BG said he like the chemistry and didn't want to jack with it. Will probably (IMO) get moved in the offseason.

stfrank -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/13/2021 4:14:44 PM)

Yeah, I think you are right about 11. This season hasn't been a good for him, so who knows what kind of deal BG will be able to work out.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/14/2021 1:37:50 PM)

Great pass from Johansson to Zucs on the PP and the good guys are up 1-0. Hell of a shot too. He just snuck that in there.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/14/2021 2:38:59 PM)

2nd period over and it's 3-1 gg's. Zach burried a rebound and then KK fed Bonino out front (although he didn't mean too. It went off a skate).

Lynn G. -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/14/2021 3:07:26 PM)

We seem to have fixed our power play. [:D]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/14/2021 3:09:44 PM)

Yeap. 5-1 now midway through the 3rd. If we could get THIS Parise every game he'd be a bargain with that contract. He's been amazing.

This Parise looks good because he is no longer being checked by #1 and #2 D-pairs and top lines. He should look good against 4th line players in my book. But that is a good thing for the Wild. When we can roll 4 lines without any problems is when we are at our best.

Lynn G. -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/16/2021 9:55:49 PM)

Nice all-around game. They still had to keep us holding our breath for the last minute, but they took care of the Sharks!

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/16/2021 10:01:54 PM)

Damn! Zach and Bonino are still on fire.

Our resident stomping dude made a hell of a pass 😏

Yep
Great pass by 24!

stfrank -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/17/2021 9:09:09 AM)

Bottom line is we got another 2 points and have solidified our playoff spot.
That "4th line" is really looking good right now and Zach and Bonino are showing their veteran moxie while Sturm's speed is creating havoc on the forecheck.
Our defensive pairs are playing well and other than Bjugstad, we are healthy.....all systems are go.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/17/2021 8:30:25 PM)

Looks like Kaapo shook off that last outing. He's given up 1 goal so far and the good guys are up 4-1.
Parise continues his roll.

Kaapo calmed down and played a solid game after giving up the first goal of the game.
After we took a lead it was like we just took over and controlled the game from then on.
Another solid team game for the boys.

Not gonna lie. That first goal made me nervous. Manny and Dubnyk blushed when that went in. I worried the kid was SOS’d. No pun intended but he rebounded well.

We are smoking hot on O

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/20/2021 9:43:18 AM)

The Wild route the Yotes again 5-2. In the process, Kaprizov scored to break Marian Gaborik's rookie scoring record. Kaprizov reached his total in 27 fewer games than Gaborik.

Evason's benching of Fiala on Saturday night appears to have paid off. Fiala came back with a goal and an assist on Kirill Bill's goal.

Bonino kept his point streak going with 2 assists, but Parise had his point streak broken. All in all that line with Sturm is playing with a lot of energy and producing.

I have to give special mention to a player I admittedly haven't given his proper due over the years. Jonas Brodin is having one hell of a year. He scored another goal last night, bringing his total to 6 this year. Now that the Wild have added a couple of guys like Cole and Soucy, who can play the heavier defensive game, I have started to appreciate what Brodin does a lot more. The man may have one of the highest hockey IQ's of any blue liner in the NHL. I've really come to appreciate the way he uses his feet. It has almost become common place to see him lock sticks with the enemy in front of the net and redirect the pass in front to a teammates stick with his skate. It's hard to believe he is only 27. He has been around so long, it almost seems like he is one of the original Wild.

Comparisons between guys we traded and guys we got in return...

Staal: GP 41, G 5, Pts 12, +/- -27
Johansson: GP 26, G 6, Pts 13, +/- -5

Kunin: GP 30, G 5, Pts 14, +/- +1
Bonino: GP 41, G 6, Pts 17, +/- -1 note: The Wild also picked up high 2nd & 3rd round picks in the last draft.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Minnesota Wild 2021 Season / Game Day (4/20/2021 10:51:03 AM)

You're right on Brodin. Dude is playing really well (and has for 2 years now) and it crazy young still for all that experience.

I had to look up Evason's playing career. Didn't know much about it but it makes sense. He was known as a defensive minded forward. Those TO's have to piss him off. He's now benched 11 and Fiala. Both responded well. What made me look it up though is "why not Suter?". That blatant TO that led to their goal was one of the worst TO's I've ever seen.

He shoulda just shot it directly in the net. Woulda save us 2 seconds of the game [:-]
