Toby Stumbo -> General Vikes Talk -Archived 9-23-21 (1/8/2021 8:14:13 AM)

Time to speed up this thread for some offseason Vikes talk.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/8/2021 8:44:40 AM)

You mean offseason bitch fest?

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/8/2021 10:27:52 AM)

A couple of interesting graphs about the Vikings offense:

Let's make it positive then. There are 25 starters (if you count the kicking unit). We are dead solid at WR1, WR2, RT, TE, RB, one safety, one LB, one defensive end and one DT. We're pretty solid at QB, second LB, and one CB. We are acceptable at C, LT (assume Cleveland otherwise if it's Rieff then it woudl be pretty solid), 2nd and 3rd CB, punter and LS. It's a start.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/8/2021 10:41:09 AM)

Can we get two guards, a CB, a DE, a DT, a kicker and a safety that are decent to great? Are there any of these already on the roster? It seems like we should be able to get four of the seven. I'd be willing to take a chance on an unproven safety and DE and maybe even kicker.

Kind of curious, PFF has Rudolph at 72.3, 24th of 73 TEs, Smith at 70.0 17th of 73 TEs

The rating for Rudolph is incorrect. It should be 67ish.

Justin Jefferson becomes first rookie wide receiver since Randy Moss to make All-Pro team
Jefferson joins Moss as the lone rookie wideouts to make the team at wide receiver in the last 30 years

By Jeff Kerr

Justin Jefferson had one of the greatest seasons for a rookie wide receiver in NFL history, besting the record for receiving yards by a rookie in the Super Bowl era. The Minnesota Vikings rookie also joined Randy Moss in elite territory, becoming the first rookie wideout since Moss to make the Associated Press All-Pro team as a wide receiver -- Moss was the last wide receiver to make the All-Pro team as a rookie at his position in 1998.

Jefferson and Moss are the only rookie wide receivers to make the All-Pro team at their position over the past 30 years. Tyreek Hill and Tyler Lockett also made the All-Pro team in their rookie seasons, but they made it as returners. Louis Lipps was the last rookie wide receiver to make the All-Pro team prior to Moss, accomplishing the feat in 1984.

Jefferson had a historic season for the Vikings, as his 1,400 receiving yards set the NFL record for most receiving yards by a rookie wideout in the Super Bowl era. Jefferson broke Anquan Boldin's record of 1,377 yards set in 2003 (which Boldin didn't make an All-Pro team that season), but fell 73 yards short of Bill Groman's NFL record for receiving yards in a rookie season (Groman had 1,473 yards for the AFL's Houston Oilers in 1960).

Jefferson ended his season with 88 catches for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 15.91 yards per catch. His 88 receptions are the sixth-most for a rookie in NFL history and his 87.5 yards per game are the fifth most for a rookie wideout in league history. Jefferson finished fourth in the NFL in receiving yards (behind Stefon Diggs, Travis Kelce, and DeAndre Hopkins), sixth in the league in yards per game, and 11th in yards per catch.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/8/2021 4:03:03 PM)

Good for Jefferson, and his next contract just got more expensive.

Edit: It's the 2nd team (along with four others).

Cook snubbed

Henry was ok for 1st team. Are you complaining about Kamara on the second team? Maybe his league leading 21 touchdowns swayed voters. A lot of TDs... how did he get so many?

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/9/2021 9:10:38 AM)

How about this instead:

The Vikings so-called D was a huge factor in Alvin Kamara's selection for 2nd Teal All-Pro, thereby ensuring Dalvin Cook was left off the team.

Other possible factors:
- Yards per touch: 6.3 vs 5.8.
- NO is a #2 seed

Cook received zero votes.

I thought Cook and Henry were shoe ins. And yes our defense probably catapulted Kamara over Cook

Yards from scrimmage

Kamara 1688 21tds

No team has ever lost when they outscored their opponent.

Teams lose all the time when they gain more yards.

When your talking MVP honors winning is obviously a big part.

I think Cook was the better player this year. So to get zero votes is a bit of a slap in the face. If nothing else he should be even more motivated next season.

Then the 'snub' was a good thing.

If the TD's are the most important criteria then Leroy Hoard would have been enshrined by now

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/9/2021 1:56:46 PM)

This Bills- Colts game clearly has a different level of intensity-one that has been missing a bit from my perspective without the fans in the stands in the regular season. There's only a few fans attending this game, but it's a heckuva contest.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/9/2021 2:49:58 PM)

We're looking at real NFL level kicking in the game. Sure would have been nice to have a bit more of that for the Vikings.
