Looking at last years depth chart vs this years likely depth chart, what a difference a year makes:

2020

LDE - Ifeadi Odenigbo, Jordan Brailford
NT - Shamar Stephen, Armon Watts
DT - Jaleel Johnson, James Lynch, Hercules Mata’afa
RDE - Jalyn Holmes, DJ Wonnum

2021

LDE - Danielle Hunter, Patrick Jones II
NT - Michael Pierce, Armon Watts
DT - Dalvin Tomlinson, Sheldon Richardson, Jaylen Twyman
RDE - Stephen Weatherly, DJ Wonnum

Yep I was thinking the same thing.

Laughable (Cried all year with that mess)

When you add Robinson in the mix who supposedly has a Hunter feel also...there might not be a lineman left from last year....going to be some battles.

stephen weatherly was developed as a zimmer system player...he's got hunter measurables, too - and he ran a 4.61/40...i think that he's better than his stats....

Weatherly's size speed numbers are absolutely freakish. I"m talking Moss/Hunter freakish. However, you have to be able to play [&:].

We're not going to have worry about playing Zimmer ball with 1-8 point leads, we're going to be comfortably be up in a lot of them.

Fire power and a stout defense. We're going to kill it this year.

Well I sure hope Adam Thielen and Harrison Smith are prepared to wear masks all season. Idiots.

Has the vaccine been made available to all Americans yet?
They're young and healthy. They are probably on the bottom of the priority list for the vaccine.

Since mid-April, it's been open for everyone.

At this point, like twinsfan said, he can choose his manufacturer. And probably get a shot same day.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/16/2021 10:48:00 AM)

Would you say this is the best collection of CBs that Zimmer has had in his tenure? It actually may be Dline, DB, and LB corps best of all three that he has had.

Something the Twins have done once the last 5 years....address all weaknesses in an offseason.

Funny!

In the Vikings' 60-year history, four players have worn the No. 9 in a regular-season game: kicker Scott Sisson and quarterbacks Tommy Kramer, Jim McMahon and Brooks Bollinger.

On Tuesday, defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson tried it on, thanks to both the NFL's relaxed jersey number policies and the fact he was on the free agent market until long after the new rule passed in late April.

"I really don't mind numbers, but I wasn't wearing 67," he said Tuesday. "That's what they first gave me when I came out. I think I've got No. 9 just for minicamp, and hopefully we'll see what happens."

There appears to be a credible concern regarding the vaccination causing myocarditis in people under 30. If somebody chooses not to get the vaccine I wouldn't call them idiots. However, they have to suffer the consequences of their choice.

I don't understand why Patterson is thought overrated on this site (and others).

Bill posted all those drafted. Obenigbo, Stephen, Weatherly were all 7 rounders who got second contracts with other teams (didn't we draft weatherly and stephen in the 7th rounds?). That's pretty phenomenal. Hunter to all pro. Griffin - I personally believe, was helped by Patterson.

Floyd was the only first or second round draft pick while Patterson's been here. True we've signed several guys, but only Joseph for relatively big money. Not other position group has gotten less $ and draft capital (without looking it up - maybe RBs?). And other than last year we've had very good DL.

I love Patterson, and I think he deserves a lot of credit for Hunter's development. I look at it from the other side, too, that says probably Hunter would just as good, give or take, anywhere he played.

Love having both.

Patterson's greatest contribution to Hunter's success with the Vikings is that he lobbied for the Vikings to draft him in the first place. Patterson is a good position coach and a good judge of pass rushing talent, but Hunter was going to be Hunter no matter where he went. Coming out of college, he was a physical freak, who was a fast learner with a great work ethic. Just too good to not succeed. He was the youngest player in the draft by far and just needed time to develop.

Great point on Patterson being key to him drafted. I also think it says a lot that Weatherly said what he did about Patterson and wanting to come back. Sheldon Richardson wanting to come back is another example.

Work ethic, talent, etc are key. But I don't think anyone (EDIT: "anyone" is a little exaggerated to make the point) makes it in the NFL without the right coaching and right situation. Zimmer has been talking about 1 thing Hunter needs to do that will make him unstoppable. I think he made those comments after or during the 2019 season. He wouldn't say what.

Think Brady is GOAT if he gets draft elsewhere? I don't.

Sure, why not? Brady's success has a lot to do with his talent and work ethic more than coaching, imo.
Somewhere up above it was said of Hunter he was going to succeed with our coaching or someone else's.
Same with Brady. We're not talking a gulf between levels of coaching ability like it's high school. There should be some pretty talented coaches just about every where in the NFL.
Since I first game on this board, following the disaster of the end of the 98 season, I've always felt like too much credit is giving to coaching (ok, maybe Sherman is a bad example ;).
The level of wanting to succeed has to be out of this world when you get to this level.

I disagree to an extent. It's the nature vs nurture argument in human development. Coaching is also about scheme which is HUGE when it comes to success in the NFL. And I've seen too many coaches not succeed in the NFL to say there's parity at the NFL coaching level.

I'm not disregarding talent/desire/etc AT ALL. But I believe its a yin and yang scenario.

Here's one argument in your favor:

"The reason why I had my deal in Cleveland was because of Dre and him putting me in positions to be productive," [Sheldon] Richardson said.

Chris Tomasson:

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer on vaccines: “Today, we had a team meeting with Dr. Allen Sils, who’s the chief medical officer for the NFL. He talked to them a lot about the vaccine, how safe it is, how it became tested.

He talked to them about what the protocols will be next fall, which we should hearing in the next couple of days. He talked to them about why they should and even if they’ve had Covid, why they should be still get vaccinated because the antibodies of once you get vaccinated, and you have Covid, your antibodies are way off the charts, so you’re going to be safer if it comes back again. One of the players asked about if they would need to get a booster shot at some point.

We’re just trying to educate these guys. They have to make their own decisions. The unvaccinated players are going to have a harder time in the season. They’re going to be wearing masks, they’ll have to social distance. They’ll have daily testings. (Unvaccinated players) won’t be able to go home for bye week. They’ll have to come back here and test every day. When we go on the road, they won’t be able to go out to dinner with anybody. They’ll have to travel on buses differently, travel on planes different.

A lot of the meetings will be virtual There’s not only the safety part of being vaccinated but as far as being part of a football team it’s just going to be so much easier I don’t have to wear a mask We had a staff meeting the other day We've got everybody in.. same room.

Very easily. I am older and had a health condition that made me higher risk. I still wasn't approved for getting the vaccine until mid April. I didn't go on the spiderweb looking this stuff up after I got the vaccine because why should I? My best guess was it was available to pretty much everybody now, but I did not know so I asked. Now I know. See how that works. Ask question get answer and learn.

It is surprising that Cousins, Thielen and Harrison Smith all appear to have chosen not to get vaccinated for COVID. Even if they think it's not needed at all IMO they should get it to avoid the hassle. The only reason I would choose not to get the vaccine is if the side effects weren't worth the benefit.

Stop this nonsense or move it to the right thread. This has occurred in 275 cases as of the date this was published (June 10th). https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/10/covid-vaccine-cdc-says-heart-inflammation-cases-in-16-to-24-year-olds-higher-than-expected-after-second-shot.html

The % of this (without knowing the exact number of vaccines with second doses for that age bracket) is probably in the realm of .00000000000000000000000001%. And this is only after the second dose.

Same with the issues with clotting and women. Something like 350 cases in millions of does.

If you're a man, get the DNA shot or stop after the first shot (surprisingly effective after even 1 dose). If you're a woman get the mRNA shot.

The new variant looks scary. Herd immunity reduces the chances for mutation. The problem with individualistic vs collectivism.

You're not wrong. Remember this gem?

Cousins was asked, on a scale of 1 to 10, “If 1 is the person who says, ‘Masks are stupid, you’re all a bunch of lemmings,’ and 10 is, ‘I’m not leaving my master bathroom for the next 10 years,’ where do you land?”

With a small laugh, Cousins replied: “I’m not going to call anybody stupid, for the trouble it would get me in. But I’m about a 0.00001.”

Cousins, 32, explained: “I want to respect other people’s concerns, but for me personally, if you’re just talking no one else can get the virus, what is your concern if you could get it? I would say I’m going to go about my daily life. If I get it, I’m going to ride it out. I’m going to let nature do its course. Uh, survival-of-the-fittest kind of approach and just say, if it knocks me out, it knocks me out. I’m going to be okay.

“Even if I die. If I die, I die. I kind of have peace about that.

I know someone in a comparable risk group, and she only got her shot a few weeks before it opened up for everyone. Plus local availability varied. it was easier to get appointments in Red counties.

For Pfizer, the official schedule is 21 days between the first shot and second shot, +2 weeks to fully vaccinated. Moderna is 28 days. Locally (Walgreens), the Pfizer shot was given with a 28 day interval. From the data I've seen, you're significantly protected about 10-12 days after the first shot. And from experience in other countries, the second shot can be delayed months (not recommended by Pfizer/Moderna, but data suggests it might generate a better immune response — then again, going from amazing to extra amazing isn't a good reason for the wait, if the doses are available).

For young men, the myocarditis data isn't strong enough to link it to the mRNA vaccines. In that population, the background rate of myocarditis is large enough that it's hard to confirm a small signal — that it'll take more data tells you it can't be a big effect. Example: if you'd expect 200 cases, and you see 220, that addition 20 might just be statistical noise. And 95% of the reported cases are extremely mild and resolve quickly. It's not a significant concern (about the mRNA vaccines).

Yea, perhaps he's looking at the amount of people who have had adverse reactions. I lost a very close friend who died just hours after taking his second shot. I know that millions of shots have been given, but over 5,000 people have died after getting the shot, so perhaps he wants to do the best research he can before he makes this decision. I know it's not vogue to think for yourself any more, but the way the medical community has vacillated on this issue, people have a right to be cautious and not just blindly follow the crowd. If a person has received the shot, why the f@!# do they care what someone else does?
