The plan:

Pick up one decent o-lineman in free agency

Trade Dalvin Cook to the Jets for the #2 pick

Draft Justin Fields

Fire Zimmer at mid-season

Hire Eric Bienemy at the end of the season

Cut Cousins

Philosophy wise sure. But between the Cook and Cousins contracts we'd have a 78ml dead cap hit.

Fact is the Wilf's blew it when they extended Zim and Spielman. Add on that the extensions themselves aren't long enough for Spielman to care about the long term future of the franchise. So expect more bold/stupid moves along with kicking future cap hits down the road.

I don't think Spielman and Zimmer are the issue. Not finding a generational QB is the problem and that is their biggest issue. Chilly even saw that.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/6/2021 9:59:32 AM)

Jefferson told FanSided’s Mark Carman “I think Klint [Kubiak] is going to come in and do the same or even better.”

How about we quit the shit about trading Cook and improve at QB first? Find a better QB and everything works better.

How about we quit the shit about the QB and improve the OL first? Build (not "find") a better OL and everything works better.

Whose job is it to "find" a QB? Whose job is it to identify, procure, and develop a QB of the future (and maybe before the seventh round/UDFA)? Who punted on all of that and competed against themselves to extend Kirk while grousing about heading into the last year of his own contract?

I know it's up to the QB to pull himself up by his bootstraps and present himself to Spielman and Zimmer, and then make himself great again.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/6/2021 12:03:08 PM)

You trade Cousins to SF or NYJ this offseason....draft Lance or Fields and start the QB you get back from either team. Yes you keep drafting oline but a Lance or Fields will help the oline problem. KC is starting Remmers at LT.

If they don't draft Fields or Lance or acquire a better QB they deserve to get fired.....SF wants Cousins---make the trade.

Zimmer's patience has to be getting thin with the QB position and that may be the best reason to fire him for the KC OC.

Not saying this is a bad plan. But I doubt the Wilf's want to eat Zim or/and Ricks salary'a after just ext them. Not sure i want Zim around in developing a Lance or Fields either. maybe Clint blossoms as OC and he takes over for Zim in a couple years. Zim will turn 65 this June. I can't imagine he will not hang it up soon.

They're not trading Cousins. They think they've done a great job building this team and if the players just do their part and there are no opt outs, we're contenders.

We're not.

How do you know SF wants Cousins and they'll make a trade worth doing? The same sources that promised to prove the election was stolen? Or did Q tell you?

Has this been reported here?

Sources: Alabama cornerbacks coach Karl Scott expected to accept a job with the Minnesota Vikings. He’ll be Minnesota’s defensive backs coach.

(Pete Thamel on Twitter)

Not much, but I found this too.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/6/2021 3:13:03 PM)

Justin Herbert had a good season for a quarterback in the NFL.

Justin Jefferson had an ELITE season for a wide receiver in the NFL.

We have a few that have made it 2 almost generations.....Brady, Brees, Rodgers, and Manning just a few years back....Wilson, Mahomes, Jackson, and Allen/Herbert are right there.

Maybe you need to calm yourself on the politics....Shanahan has raved about Cousins (was his QB coach) and rumors are 2nd and a 4th.

kwheats -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/6/2021 11:08:22 PM)

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was named the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year at the 2021 NFL Honors on Saturday night. The Oregon product was drafted by the Chargers with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and was the third overall quarterback taken behind Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins.[X(]

kwheats -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/6/2021 11:15:27 PM)

Will Ragatz
@WillRagatz
Justin Herbert was roughly the 15th-best quarterback in the NFL this year. Justin Jefferson was a top-5 wide receiver.

Herbert broke records set two years ago. Jefferson broke records set 20 years ago.

Jefferson not winning OROY after the season he had is absurd.

kwheats -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/6/2021 11:36:05 PM)

-No JA in the HOF
-JJ didn’t get OROTY
-Stefanski is COTY
-Rodgers is MVP

It really is “Shit on the #Vikings” Night, huh?
[sm=bs.gif]

bohumm -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/7/2021 12:20:34 AM)

I'm OK with Herbert winning ROY because
a) those kinds of awards don't mean much
b) QBs always get a boost for any award at any level
c) he was really good this year at the most important position

JJ was also deserving, clearly, but it's not that absurd that Herbert won it

Yea, I like Justin Herbert but I can't figure out how Jefferson didn't win ROY. I'm not a big awards guy, but that ain't right.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (2/7/2021 8:43:50 AM)

I haven't heard any sources saying Zim is happy with Cousins and won't trade him.

But one, probably non-credible source said the stickler was the Vikes wanted at least one 1st.
