Wow. Only being one of the final 8 teams playing for the championship is a fireable transgression.

Like I said, if the Wilfs (and some Vikings fans) are happy with mediocrity then so be it. The Bengals were perfectly fine with Marvin Lewis as year after year he fielded a competitive Bengals team who could get to the playoffs - but no further. I’d like the Vikings to have higher aspirations than that.

Exactly.

44% of the teams in the NFL make the Playoffs each year.

If just being in that "elite" 44% every other year is enough for you, you probably have very low expectations.

Nothing other than winning the Super Bowl every year is good enough for me. However, the Rolling Stones said it long ago. You can't always get what you want.

Smith - Marsette hilights... This was what we needed. PUMPED

Lengthy hilight reel.. but worth it!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pR7m07KLqA

Nate Stanley looks pretty good in these, as well!

When I watched the Marsette Highlight I saw a player good at catching contested passes who seemed to have to catch far too many contested passes. In a highlight reel particularly shouldn't he be getting wide open?

If he's willing to work and learn, he's got two very good route runners to help him get wide open to learn from.

I expect Marsette to make the team and maybe even be our #3 eventually. I just am not too excited regarding him at this point. When I watched JJ highlights last year he was almost always wide open.

The 4.43 speed helps. Might be faster than Thielen at this point.

SOD. My favorite draft pick br far.

Especially when you consider his QB at Iowa was crap. Several of those plays, he had gotten wide open only to have to slow up and wait for the ball and the DB to get there.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/7/2021 3:31:51 PM)

What a weird process. One that sees Treadwell a 1st rounder, Smith-Marsette and Diggs 5th.

His name has a nice ring to it called in his highlights I didn't know him coming in but all I see is a future star.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/7/2021 3:37:08 PM)

The play that gets us to the SB as called by Joe Buck.

Cousins throws it deep...Smith-MarsETT! DIVING! END ZONE! TOUCHDOWN! UNBELIEVABLE! For the 1st time in 44 years the Vikings are going to the SB.

No reason ISM shouldn't make the team and compete right away for WR3. The incumbents are certainly nothing to write home about.

I may have watched a different highlight reel. The one I saw certainly had him open a few times, but covered tightly far too often. Since highlights are just that highlights it's hard to get much out of them. If I get around to watching game tape/film I'll have a far better idea about him. He was productive. I do expect reasonably good things out of him. Are you expecting him to be our PR while Kene is our KR?

Also he won't have the #1 CB on him....which would explain the tight coverage too.

The Vikes probably are only needing 20-30 catches from a third WR. 150-180 from Thielen/JJ. 40-50 from Irv. 30 to Cook.....so 100 catches from the rest?

Is this based on his zero punt returns at Iowa? He literally never even caught a punt in a game in college, so why why the declaration of certainty that he can contribute as a punt returner right away?

I am optimistic about him and all the draft picks, as I always am because I'm a fan, but we don't have to embrace fiction or fantasy. The Iowa State RB is very fast, but for some reason couldn't get carries in college...in spite of being a very fast one-cut runner. Maybe he'll be great, maybe he'll be a poor man's Michael Bennett. Smith-Marsette has actual game production to base optimism on, but never as a punt returner. But people tout the pick based in part on his immediate impact as a punt returner (not just you). I have to say I don't get it.
