What I've heard is more 1 back, 1 TE, 3 WR.

It may be 1 back, 1 TE, 3 WR > 2 back, 1 TE, 2 WR > 1 back, 2 TE, 2 WR

This is my impression as well. They may believe Ham is better at his job than the reserve TEs and WRs or the ones available, so find a way to use him. You can also have two RBs (no FB) and send one in motion to create mismatches and force the defense to commit to something in terms of coverage.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/21/2022 1:57:44 PM)

Anything outside the Zimmerball box, anything at all.. is a welcome change.

We shall see.

Edit: I would expect a lot of everything - let's revisit this conv with statistics and see what he actually went with after the SB.

.

i just stole this from a dailynorseman article....

O’Connell also employed 11 personnel (3WR, 1 RB, 1 TE) on 86% of their plays last season.

ffs

kgdabom -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/23/2022 11:06:40 AM)

Something I've proposed here many times is now being proposed by Bud Grant. During what is now "victory formation" time if the offense doesn't gain yardage the clock stops. He also makes a plea for making the kick return more likely.

Sorry Bud, I don't like it.

The V people all ready did enough to win the game. Why should they have to gain a yard, so the D can magically strip the ball? They all ready had a chance in the previous 59 mim to win it by using real plays ... imo

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/23/2022 11:36:28 AM)

Bud is 95 years old. Let him finish out with class. Shame on that youtuber for using Bud to get some views and likes.

Like Bud I like watching football plays. I like keeping the possibility of a comeback alive as long as possible. I like seeing the game won by using real football plays. If you enjoy watching a kneel down more power to you. Even when it's the Vikings doing the kneeling I don't get excited over that play. The kneel down is IMO the non real football play. Make a real play to win the game. Gain a yard.

A friend of mine made this for Tommy Kramer.

Where is the shame in sharing Bud's thoughts? I think he's honoring Bud.

ha ha
- stop f'ing with the game!
- you make it to v-f you win, assuming you can make a snap
- please!

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/23/2022 12:16:08 PM)

I'm for all of Bud's suggestions.

I love how Bud came up with the exact same rule change as I did a few years ago.

bstinger -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/23/2022 12:31:03 PM)

I don't mind Bud's ideas, especially to make the punt and kick off more interesting again. End of the game idea I could live without, but it would keep the game more interesting longer.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/23/2022 1:29:23 PM)

Why stop at the kneel down. Add one minute of clock after it runs out if the score is close. MORE FOOTBALL!

And in doing so end the careers of countless players prematurely. Believe it or not the NFL ALSO wants the game to be as interesting as possible. However, they've done their homework and see that kickoffs injure more players than any other type of play. They made the right decision.

I love it. No of course not. However, the intentional running out of the clock without trying to score in any sport is the most boring part of the sport.

I've seen the statistics and they are very mildly more dangerous. I've challenged people to name the players who had their careers ended due to KO or PR plays and it's a very small list. Playing tackle football is risky and taking some steps to ameliorate the risk is good. How far to go with those steps is the big question.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/23/2022 2:45:06 PM)

Post the stats you’ve seen.

I'd rather not. Why don't you post the list of those who have had their careers ended by PR or KO plays.

It isn't always one play....did you see the ST from the Saints documentary? Steve Gleason

Also check on how Orlando Thomas and Tim Green are doing.....players are getting ALS from the amount of hits.

Other former NFL players who have been diagnosed with ALS include Steve Gleason, Dwight Clark, O.J. Brigance, Tim Green and Kevin Turner. Eric Stevens and Steve McMichal are 2 more; most recent.

It's a dangerous sport. The only truly safe choice is to not play it.

And in the end, you die anyway.
