NFL teams are 83-12-1 this season when winning the turnover margin by two or more. The Vikings, tied for second in the league with six such games, have four of those 12 losses.

So basically the Vikings win turnover battles, take leads into the 4th quarter, etc, etc, etc yet other teams somehow win against large sample statistical odds. Perhaps they think, ah we got this because the Vikings are soft, predictable, will choke, and the head coach will botch something near the end of the game.

This pretty much points to coaching imo. Stats show 90% of the time teams win these games yet Zim manages to piss them away. stats tend to back up the eye test when it comes to Zim in game management.

A coach will always be made to look bad as a game manager if he has a quarterback that can't run a two-minute offense. In addition, a defense that is terrible at stopping one is equally damaging. The Vikings are one of the worst two-minute teams in the league this season. They've been outscored by about 50+ points this season in the final two minutes of halves. If they had just played competently in the final two minutes of halves they'd have a least two more wins, if not three or four.

I know its a rant I have that people are getting tired of, but it is 100% true. Cousins has a 101.2 overall quarterback rating. His quarterback rating in the final two minutes of halves is 76.5. He just doesn't get it done when it matters, plain and simple.

Aaron Rodgers -- 118.5
Joe Burrow -- 125.6
Russell Wilson -- 110.7

People are tired of Brad arguing about Brad. Your 2 min argument is just another of your futile campaigns to own a point of view that is neither wholly true nor wholly yours.

There are three or four posters who blame Cousins QB deficiencies on the situation around him. Most believe he’s good at some things and bad at others. Whoopee.

According to the Wash. Post, he’s about #10 in 4th qtr effeciency and #9 in late/close game passing efficiency. That wasn’t cherry picked, that was the first place I looked. And that is as far as I’m going to defend him because I want him gone.

But …. as other more neutral and even-handed posters than yourself have said, there’s a good chance our next QB - especially a highly touted young one if we are smart enough to go that route - will struggle for a time and perform less well than the #10-15 rated KC (if you go by stats … which I’m leery of).

Hopefully its worth it but you never know. Its super hard for this franchise to get it right.

Mannion. Gross

HL OSWALD -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2021 2:09:37 PM)

OK, If Im the Wilfs, I look at this game and say "here's a test of our coaching staff and GM"

Every team in the NFL is dealt this crap with Covid, hell we got beat by Dallas with Cooper Rush!

So how does Speals look with back up talent on the roster and how do the coaches do in creating a game plan for said "talent" to execute to an NFL competent level. Sean Mannion is still getting paid right at 1M to be back up for KFC, do we think that Zimmer, Kubiak Jr and Co can rise to the occasion and design a game plan that even makes him look semi competitive?

If the game goes as we would all expect then it should not be a built in excuse for the regime to decree season went south due to Covid and they should get a re-do, but honestly it should be evaluated rather as final nail in coffin of an incompetent group that has lowered this teams ability to compete with poor signings and total inability to coach up players and put them in position with NFL caliber coaching and game plans to at least field a semi competitive team with the owners money.

Will the Wilf take this mindset, I doubt it...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3V2yI0Iz6Ho

Zimmer Presser : someone had to wake Grandpa up from his nap (drunken stupor)

"I think they're going to rally behind Sean," coach Mike Zimmer said Friday. "They know how important this game is. They believe in Sean. ... We hate to see that happen to Kirk, but he’s done a lot of great things for us and Sean is a really good football player and we’re expecting him to go out and play really well."

excuses, excuses, excuses...

If the Wilfs saddle the players and fanbase with re-do of this regime next year we might as well start trying out names... Cleveland had a good one not long ago with "The Factory of Sadness"

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2021 3:32:24 PM)

God I can’t wait until Zimmer is gone..

He has no clue how to coach up or develop players that are drafted..

Sean Mannion can’t play dead, and we all know that. That said, I hope he plays the game of his life and beats green bay.

I think we all would love nothing more than to see Mannion come out and play the game of his life to beat the Pack... Go "Favre" on Zimmer and staff! Just go out and audible out of everything with a reckless abandon to wing it down field to playmakers all game showing how inept Cousins and this coaching staff is...

Does anyone really think that is a possibility from a Sean Mannion though? Hell he is returning from a bought of Covid with NO PRACTICE all week, he hasnt been at facility or in any meetings, knows none of implemented game plan... And Zimmer said nothing will be adjusted for him, they will call it just as if Cousins were out there?

Back in 2019, he started a game for the Vikings against Chicago, going 12-of-21 passing for 126 yards with two interceptions in a 21-19 loss.

--- More over what the hell does that say about Mond who has been at practice in the house all week? With this staff we will never really know because of their inability to coach up young talent and total disdain for putting young guys on the field with any confidence.

Again, this coaching staff is as big an albatross as KFC...

Nate -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2021 3:47:19 PM)

I'm sure they'll rally around him since he's probably a great team-mate and the team wants to win. I don't think anyone outside of Zim is delusional enough to think he'll play well, other than handing off the football 30 times. Maybe he'll audible out of a middle run on a middle blitz, that would be something.

So Mond sucks is my conclusion.

Another reason to fire Speilman and Zimmer.

He just doesn't have the required 4 years of clip board holding to run the vaunted Zimmer turtle offense. Nobody really has any idea how good he is since he is still just cleaning clip boards and not actually holding them yet......

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2021 4:59:32 PM)

Gzuz if I hear Zimmer call Mannion brilliant one more time … I’ll run amok!

Mannion is astrophysicist smart but football dumb, so he gets the start

Cousins is dead fish eyes smart, so he is the regular starter

Mond is pure football smart, so he’ll never see the field under Zimmer

You can look up his game play from preseason on YouTube…

Raw, yes, blind, no
Can move, yes
Needs better players around him, yes
Worthless? No.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2021 5:51:48 PM)

Both teams should be running the ball a lot, so it could be a closer game than we expect. It will be close if the refs call an honest game.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2021 5:54:13 PM)

I could see a game where Mannion looks awful, but it's not a blowout.

Then Mannion gets hurt, Sloter comes in and looks good for a little while, makes it a very close game. But Sloter doesn't have enough escapability, and he gets sacked, maybe has the ball stripped at crunchtime, so the Vikes lose a close game.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/31/2021 5:56:34 PM)

KC allowed himself to get Covid, because he knew the Vikes would lose at GB, just like Rodgers knew the Pack would lose at KC earlier in the season.

Mike Zimmer said there "really wasn't" much consideration given to Kellen Mond starting in place of because the team knew Sean Mannion was going to be coming back. Sean knows the game plan "cold" and is an "extremely brilliant person" per Zimmer.

Oswald, I am usually wrong, but can be accurate at times.

I predicted the exact score of the NFC Championship game 1998 season, even predicted Anderson missing the game winner in regulation. I had 30-27, Vikings winning in OT, except the wrong team won, the dirty birds.

Nice ... that's the tweet that pushed me to the edge ...

repeating it is merely a severe inflammation or chafing sensation though, not enough to break me.

but thanks for trying.

Chris Tomasson@christomasson·6h

#Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Kellen Mond will be the backup Sunday.

I could see a game where, on his first or second pass play (third qtr probably) Mannion is sacked hard while deconstructing Kant's 'Categorical Imperative', then pops an eye out while being slammed to the frozen tundra forcing Mond to come in and win the game in the last two minutes on a gutsy improvised changed-at-the-line-of-scrimmage play allowing himself to throw into the actual endzone which once again shows Zimmer's talent for sitting younger more talented players in favor of under-performing veterans and thus forcing Spielman to fire Zimmer right after the game.

You'll be ok, Tom :)

I just checked the National Weather Service: -4 wind chill Sunday at 8p. I say, get colder! The weather being an equalizer may be our only chance - and it ain't like GB is a seasoned cold weather team due to the elements this year

I agree, the worse the weather the better. For one, forces the other team to be more conservative down to our level.

Not to mention the old school flavor.
