Big win overall. I remember being at AA arena when it was Madano night. It’s hard to match that energy. Was no surprise that they outplayed us early.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/28/2022 10:16:06 PM)

We started out slow again, but we pretty much owned the 2nd and 3rd periods.
And Gaudreau made up for the lame penalty shot with a snipe for the winner later!
That Boldy, Fiala, connection just keeps getting better too.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/29/2022 6:33:19 AM)

Who would believe Gaudreau with the game winner. Twentyfive percent of his career goals are game winners. And, I agree, that penalty shot attempt was painful to watch.

Not only is the Boldy/ Fiala connection getting better, Kaprizov, Zuccarello just keeps clicking.

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/29/2022 9:34:18 AM)

I was pretty skeptical about that final "goal" of the Rangers being called a no-goal. I thought sure they'd overturn the call and give the goal to the Rangers but it was because I was focusing so hard on where the puck was, and how it didn't stay under Talbot's glove for very long before it trickled in. On all the replays, that's what I was watching.

It wasn't until I was watching "On the Fly" later when the guy who was on with Jamie Hersch (don't remember his name) was adamant that the "no-goal" was the correct call, and he pointed out (and the video showed) that the Ranger player used his stick to push Talbot's leg back into the goal, which made it impossible for Talbot to stop the sliding puck. Had his leg/with pad been in place as Talbot positioned himself, the puck never would have made it in.

I have often appreciated hockey linesmen for how well they catch things even at the incredible speed of hockey. And this was one that they definitely caught immediately, and made the right call.

And the good guys won. [:D]

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/29/2022 10:00:36 AM)

Yep. It was clear cut goalie interference.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/29/2022 10:28:22 AM)

Same Lynn. Thought for sure it would get overturned and was shocked when they didn’t. Saw the same on the after show. They actually made the right call, against a big name team. On a ceremony game 😳

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/29/2022 12:12:27 PM)

I thought it would get overturned for all the wrong reasons. The goalie interference was clear-cut, no doubt about it. The puck crossed the goal line with a second to go.it was in New York and honoring one of the great goalies of an era. I was sure the league officials would look the other way and rule it a good goal.

Yup, I was expecting to see some 3 on 3 in short order. Was very surprised they actually got the call correct despite the circumstances.

“Tough building to make that call. But it was the right call,” Evason said.

Who hurt you?

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/30/2022 9:12:04 PM)

Kaapo played a great game to beat the Islanders 4-3.
It helped that we got 2 quick goals to start the game, but really this game was won by Kaapo in goal.
Sure is nice having 2 goalies that can make the tough saves and keep us in it.
Keep this thing rolling with a win in Chicago Wednesday before the All Star break.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/30/2022 9:12:33 PM)

Well, Kaapo won that game for us. The Islanders had 43 shots on goal and a ton of them were grade A chances. The guys in front of him managed to counter punch their way to 4 goals, despite all kinds of stumbling and bumbling.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/30/2022 9:15:35 PM)

Boldy with 9 points in 9 games now......he is here to stay for sure.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/31/2022 10:41:03 AM)

Yeap. Kap was amazing and it's soooooo nice knowing we should be set at keeper for 10+ years. So hard to find the right guy and we have 2 now for the foreseeable future.

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/31/2022 11:02:14 AM)

One of the things that Ant'ny LaPanta and Lou Nanne talked about on the broadcast was the list of three players who might be amenable to a trade to the Wild midstream, and the two things they all had in common were their all-around excellent play, and their prowess at winning faceoffs.

Their discussion reminded me of something I've thought about before when the stats show that we aren't that great at winning faceoffs - - - how is this not something that can be a point of focus in practice? I'm not saying that winning faceoffs is easy, but I'm wondering why the coaches don't pick out three forwards and just put them through the paces, over and over again, to train them into doing better in faceoffs?

All of the other skills seem to improve with focused training. Why not that one?

Now, having said that, at the end of last night's game when they were showing the stats, I think the Wild and Islanders were basically tied (give or take a couple) in faceoff wins, so maybe the current squad is not that far off. But based on the discussion Ant'ny and Lou were having, it was essentially a discussion about what you'd be willing to give up to get one of those three guys who shine in the faceoff circle.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/31/2022 1:52:42 PM)

The latest from the Strib:
The Wild gave Jordan Greenway a three-year, $9 million contract extension that will run through 2024-25.
The GREEF line will be dominating for at least 3 more years. [:D]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/31/2022 3:23:32 PM)

He had a bit of an "oh shit" moment last night behind the net. He ran up against Chara and had a moment where he realized he wasn't the biggest, strongest dude in the league [&:]

Good signing.

Maybe they already do. My guess is other teams probably also do that.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (2/2/2022 3:08:40 PM)

Foligno and Dumbo are both out with upper body injuries tonight.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (2/2/2022 4:07:36 PM)

Merrill and Sturm return from Covid list so that just means a reshuffle from last game. I think the extra time off for Foligno as well as Dumba will help for the stretch run. After the All Star break our schedule gets brutal in a real hurry with games practically every other day for 2 months.....

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (2/2/2022 11:51:51 PM)

Nice win and a shutout for Talbot. Isn’t that twice that we sent Fleury to the showers early?

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (2/3/2022 7:01:36 AM)

Gotta single out Duhaime for that incredible goal line save last night. The kid plays with so much awareness, it's incredible.

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (2/3/2022 8:20:54 AM)

That was laugh-out-loud crazy good. It wasn't until the replay from the net camera that truly showed how quick his reflexes were.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (2/3/2022 8:39:51 AM)

That could have been a momentum changing goal if it had gone in right before the end of the period.

Ok, admittedly, I’ve not watched Fleury much. How is a guy that gets chased every other time we play him be a lock for the HOF? 😀 worst nickname in sports too

Never done this before but bumping myself as I've never really been spot on before [&:]

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (2/3/2022 1:17:47 PM)

You may have called it, Jeff. Although I would assume his entire body of work trumps the fact that the Wild seem to OWN HIM! [:D][:D][:D]
