Another ho-hum performance against the Preds and the freefall in the standings continues......
The way this team is going we may not make the playoffs after all.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/15/2022 2:35:09 PM)

Nico Sturm traded for Tyson Jost. That'll send a shock wave through the organization. [&o]

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/15/2022 2:57:45 PM)

I'll bet Jost is all like "Dang, I was on a team that could win the Stanley Cup!"

And Sturm is all like "Dang, I just got traded to a team that could win the Stanley Cup!"

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/15/2022 3:19:58 PM)

Was this trade all about opening a spot up for Ben Meyers when the Gophers season is over?
Or maybe to let Jack McBain know there is room for him in the lineup after all?
A lateral trade at best by swapping 4th liners. We do get an extra year out of Jost at $2 million and were most likely going to lose Sturm in free agency, so there is that.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/15/2022 4:01:46 PM)

It would be killer if Meyers plays for the Wild. Kid is from my small little hometown.

kgdabom -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/16/2022 10:00:44 PM)

Nice win over a very good Bruins team tonight. KK with two goals.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/19/2022 7:17:29 PM)

Another big win today. We didn’t play all that great, especially on O. We had some great chances and just couldn’t burry it. Still got the points. Can’t drop many we are supposed to get like today.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/20/2022 7:03:40 AM)

Looking to add a bit on sandpaper to the lineup, the Wild acquired Anaheim Ducks forward Nicolas Deslauriers on Saturday in exchange for their 2023 third-round pick. He’s expected to arrive Saturday night, practice Sunday and debut against the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday night.

I think they added him to be Kirill's body guard for the playoffs. [:D]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/20/2022 10:26:00 AM)

It’s weird. I was wondering last night about why we acquired him as I was watching the game. It dawned on me. Faligno is too valuable to be rotting away in the box. He’s really come a long away from the guy I thought we were getting.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/20/2022 10:28:32 AM)

You can make a case for MVP:

KK
Faligno
Hartman
Zuc
Brodin
Talbot

Each one has carried us at times this year.

#mnwild have traded for Marc-Andre Fleury. It’s going to be a conditional pick. Waiting on specifics.

Not cool with the timing on this by the Wild. Trying to show up the Twins on a big Monday news day.

You've gotta be f-ing kidding me???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

twinsfan -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/21/2022 10:40:45 AM)

Kaapo Kahkonen has been traded away.

David Levine -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/21/2022 10:42:01 AM)

Frank Seravalli@frank_seravalli
Fleury conditions: 2nd round pick becomes a 1st for #Blackhawks if MIN reaches Western Conference Final and Fleury accounts for 4 wins or more in first two rounds.

David Levine -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/21/2022 10:44:45 AM)

Worth noting that Kaapo Kähkönen is 1 game away from from losing his waiver exemption status.

As of right now he still exempt, but once he plays in 1 more game he'll require waivers before he can be assigned.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/21/2022 10:59:10 AM)

Dumbest moves in the history of this team:

1. Cooke
2. the "flower"
3. Chris Simon

My God, apparently Billy G was locked in on the Panther's broadcast this weekend and didn't pay attention to Kevin Weeks when he said that Fluery had to be talked out of retirement to join the Hawks because he was tired of moving his family. Guy is done and we may have to burn a first rounder. Unreal.

If he's part of the reason we make it to the WCF, is it still burning a 1st rounder?

Russo says we may have 3 2nds this coming year. One is compensation for not signing the first round pick in 2018.

I think he has to do it as Talbot and Kappo just weren't getting it done.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/21/2022 11:37:31 AM)

Getting Fleury doesn’t impress me at all. The Wild have exposed him over the last few years. At 37, I don't see him getting it done for us in the playoffs.

Middleton is solid pickup. Brings size and nasty to a blue line that needs it.

SMF says Billy is recreating the broad street bullies.

Fluery is one of the greatest playoff goalies ever. The Wild exposed Fleury during the regular season...

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/21/2022 11:52:06 AM)

Fleury WAS one of the greatest playoff goalies ever.

David Levine -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (3/21/2022 11:56:56 AM)

A lot of good stuff at The Athletic.

Russo thinks Fleury is an upgrade and does a deep dive into the 3 goalies and the difference between MN and CHI's defenses:

https://theathletic.com/3196559/2022/03/19/wild-looking-at-trade-for-blackhawks-marc-andre-fleury-per-sources-but-will-cam-talbots-surge-change-their-minds/

Minnesota Wild trade tracker: More details on the Marc-André Fleury deal — Wild were on his ‘very, very short list’

Fleury had a 2.95 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage this season in Chicago but was as athletic and competitive as ever. Per colleagues Mark Lazerus and Scott Powers, his numbers were thanks largely to the dicey defense he played behind — particularly during a brutal first month of the season, which was bad enough to get Jeremy Colliton fired as head coach. If not for Fleury, the Blackhawks would be even worse off than they are. His performance last Tuesday in an overtime loss to Boston was a perfect example. The Bruins dominated every facet of the game, but Fleury made 46 saves — several of them spectacular — to get the game to overtime and steal a point. He can still do that. He’s the reigning Vezina winner, after all. And behind a better team, he could be a difference-maker in the playoffs.

That’s what the Wild envision, hoping for a playoff upgrade from the three-time champion. Their goalies have been up and down and would be hard to rely on going into a playoff series. Kahkonen has a 2.87 GAA and .910 save percentage, and Cam Talbot 2.92 and .907. Talbot has won five straight starts but has also given up four or more goals in six of his past nine starts. For more on the Wild’s goalie struggles and how Fleury could fit, read our story previewing the deal.

Fleury controlled his own fate at the deadline. His no-movement clause included only 10 teams, but after it took him a few days to accept whether to play in Chicago at all last summer, former general manager Stan Bowman gave Fleury an unofficial assurance that he wouldn’t trade him without clearing it with him first. New GM Kyle Davidson honored that pledge, which naturally limited Chicago’s options.

“If I move, I would love to have a chance to win,” Fleury said on Feb. 16. “That’s what I play for and what I love. But it’s still a big if at this point.”

Sources say Fleury was asked about the Wild two to three days ago and agreed to waive if a deal could be worked out because he believes the Wild are a contender. Fleury had a “very, very short list,” the source said.

Fleury is in the last year of his contract but has said he’d like to continue playing next season.

Can I get in on a text chain with you and SMF? Especially for baseball season?
