Priority for 1st Round

QB
CB
DE

Not sure the order until we deal with Cousins.

We need a physical, strong center. The only player that touches the ball every play, and calls all the line calls is the center. Brad gets himself run over at least 15 times per game. That spot has to be corrected ASAP.

I'd stay put or trade down a bit to get one of the top CBs.

No sense picking a QB high in a crappy QB class just because we need one. Many are busts in a 'normal' draft. People here will fabricate several viable candidates though to assure us of one at pick 12.

Yeah. Probably just Pickett at #12.

Maybe you do a Teddy type deal and get back into the end of 1st Round(using our 2nd+) and grab a Willis or some other 2nd tier guy.

Ditto. The trade down and CB would be my preference.

Some other guys... At 12, I'd kinda like to get a guy at the top of his position group. Like David Ojabo is a super athletic project at DE, but he's the #3 or 4 DE prospect. I could be convinced, but I'd have to be convinced.

Kyle Hamilton would be super interesting if he were available: safety with LB/CB abilities; he'll be gone.
DeMarvin Leal might be a DT3, or DT5.
Devin Lloyd might be a star LB.
Ekwonu is probably a great OG who can maybe play OT — so he'll be gone.
Drake London is a huge WR, 6' 5", who might really break apart the opposing secondary. Not a positional priority, but I wouldn't rule him out.

marty -> RE: 2022 NFL draft (1/28/2022 7:16:19 PM)

Corral needs a video that shows him under more pressure, and how he responds to it.

marty -> RE: 2022 NFL draft (1/28/2022 7:18:43 PM)

Those that mentioned Pickett, I agree with you that he is the choice to make at #12.

He is quick to make adjustments to changing circumstances, just explodes out of the pocket, and looks big and strong, and makes strong throws:

The Bengals making it to the SB, and the Vikings being a FG away in '98, clearly show that if you have a good WR corps, but there is a 1st WR that can make it great, you draft him.

What?

Look at how they rebuilt their defense in the offseason. That is what made them good enough to get to the SB.

They had a middling defense and a very potent offense.

Why are you posting FA additions when Marty was talking about the draft? Is it so you can avoid mentioning Ja'Marr Chase?

2020 Bengals:
29th in Points For
22nd in Points Against

2021 Bengals:
7th in Points For
17th in Points Against

Which side of the ball had the biggest improvemt?

Did you watch the KC game? Defense shut down KC Offense the 2nd half. Chase was the 5th pick....and he is awesome.

The AFC was won with those FA additions. Those FA additions allowed them to draft Chase.

So you're ignoring the big picture for a single game sample?

Got it.

Correct...Joe Burrow out half the year the year before wasn't part of it? Also Joe Mixon only played 6 games in 2020.

Again...GM of the year for those FA additions.

Todd M -> RE: 2022 NFL draft (1/31/2022 4:54:23 PM)

Hoping we are lucky enough to be sitting in the sweet spot for this year's QB's. To take the best 1 if interested or to scoop a 2nd this year and a 2023 1st in a trade.

joejitsu -> RE: 2022 NFL draft (1/31/2022 5:02:36 PM)

I said before, if I had to get a qb at 12, I would take Pickett. But, we are against the cap and it's going to be hard to keep all of our own starters, much less find guys in free agency. So, I think I would take a highly rated tall cb at 1 (or Kyle Hamilton, if he's there. He can do a lot at safety or lb), then focus on interior linemen on both sides of the ball.

Their defense went from sucking to middling. That's not the main reason they're a SB team.

(It's the offense - which went from sucking to fantastic)

I think the bengals are going to have an easy time with the rams. Burrow is equal to or better than stafford is, and he's more slippery in the pocket. If it's a shootout, the bengals win.

Not sure the order until we deal with Cousins.

I'd stay put or trade down a bit to get one of the top CBs.

No sense picking a QB high in a crappy QB class just because we need one. Many are busts in a 'normal' draft. People here will fabricate several viable candidates though to assure us of one at pick 12.

Do we really know this is a terrible QB class? I seem to remember them telling us last year that it was a great class, and the only guys that played worth a damned were Davis Mills (pick 67) and Mac Jones (pick 15). Trevor Lawrence was a mess. Trey Lance barely played. Justin Fields looked overwhelmed. Zach Wilson had some moments, but looked awful at times. Kyle Trask and Kellen Mond never saw the field.

Mills was the eighth quarterback taken, and may have been the best player at the end of the year.

If a highly rated class had a disappointing year, why would you assume a lower rated one would fare better?

I'm not assuming anything. I'm just saying, lets put less weight into what the draft morons are saying. When it comes to quarterbacks, they are wrong more than they are right.
