PJ Tucker opted out of his contract. He'd be a good "junk yard dog" but we kind of already have that in Vando.

Totally different player on both ends of the floor.

But I doubt we have intrest in a 37 year-old that is likely ring chasing.

Wow. had no idea he was that old.

I don't consider Vando a great rebounder by any means. He will out hustle most for sure.

Sounds like some Rudy Gobert rumors that would be interesting but maybe a bit old style? I think it would be great to have an actual center starting for us to do the dirty work needed down low.

I think Vanderbilt is a very good rebounder. Especially on the offensive end. Yes that is mainly due to hustle, but isn’t that still ‘good rebounding’?

I don’t how Gobert would fit in. He’s going to want to start and that’s not happening here.

I do kind of hope they go big on the draft though. Naz is a nice player who has done well for himself, but he got exposed a bit in the playoffs as not being ready for that level of play. We can do better. Get a big who can fill the role of backup to Towns and be versatile enough to play with Towns occasionally. That should allow him to carve out enough minutes for a season or two anyway.

Pauldiercks1 -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/23/2022 9:37:22 AM)

Absolutely hustle rebounds is very good rebounding. Rebounding in general is very much about hustle and effort.
Love Vando and his attitude, just saying I feel he is limited how good of a player and rebounder he can be. I think he may be best served in a reserve role on a very good team.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/23/2022 11:23:34 AM)

So little talk about the NBA draft. Here are some of my random thoughts:

As I said, I hope the Wolves go big. The Williams kid from Duke would be great. May have to trade up though.

I don't see Holmgren as the top 3 pick...and possibly #1 pick that he's been pegged at. What am I missing? I know he's just a kid and a lot of his value is based on potential like all of them are. So who knows. I guess everyone is geeking out over a 7 footer who has quickness and some athletic ability. I get that, I think he'll be a nice player, but nothing special. I'm not seeing star level in his future.

Added interest in Wolves draft since it's the first one with new president. No clue what he'll do. Except this. There's zero chance they stand pat and use all 4 picks in their current slot. It's much harder to package 2nd round picks and move up like in NFL, so not envisioning those three 2nd round picks to amount to much, but there will some movement. Maybe a trade including a veteran player packaged with one or more pick to move up. I could definitely see that.

David Levine -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/23/2022 11:46:25 AM)

#19: Jalen Williams, Delan Terry, EJ Liddell in that order.

Use all 3 2nd picks to assure getting Christian Koloko.

He's really special on both ends. Elite shotblocker with both hands with amazing timing and coordination. Very good feet and length allow him to switch onto perimeter players, and he'll likely be outstanding at defending the pick-and-roll.

Offensively, he's a 3 level scorer. Shot 41% on 3s, has a good face-up and turnaround jumper and is an elite, ambidextrous finisher inside.

Solid ballhandler that can bring the ball up and turn the corner on guys. Good vision and passing chops.

With Chet its all going to hinge on how he handles contact on both ends, as he's even skinnier than rookie Kevin Durant. Can he hold his ground on defense? Can he handle contact on offense?

He's the scary decision. Front offices are going to be just as nervous to possibly take him as to possibly pass on him as either move could be a reputational disaster.

David Levine -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/23/2022 12:02:13 PM)

Interestingly the better version of Chet will be going #1 next year (he missed the cutoff by 4 days to be in this year's draft).

Victor Wembanyama. Arguably the best prospect since LeBron.

It’s that last part that scares me. Well maybe ‘scare’ is too harsh but you get what I mean. There’s a chance he could get eaten up in the NBA.

He went #2. I hope his body holds up. That's the only concern.

Eason and Williams getting very close to our pick. I'm happy with either.

TJSweens -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/23/2022 8:55:18 PM)

The Wolves are on the clock.

TJSweens -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/23/2022 8:58:21 PM)

Wolves pick is going to Memphis

TJSweens -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/23/2022 9:07:07 PM)

The Wolves will get 22 & 29 in return

TJSweens -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/23/2022 9:16:08 PM)

Walker Kessler, Auburn

TJSweens -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/23/2022 9:29:35 PM)

Damn! It's draft night and it's Death Valley in here.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/23/2022 9:49:04 PM)

Arriving late on the seen but Kessler?

TJSweens -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/23/2022 10:01:41 PM)

The Wolves then traded #29 in a deal to get the rights to Wendell Moore, taken at #26. So the Wolves get Kessler at #22 and Moore at #26.

The TV talking heads are saying he is the best inside defender and rim protector in the draft.

CBS sports graded the pick an A+, so we got that going for us.

I like it. On REAL GM I was lobbying for us taking Kessler.

Matt Lang -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/24/2022 12:11:14 AM)

I don’t follow much college hoops so I don’t know these players. I think we did well in the draft?

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Wolves 2022 Off Season and Draft (6/24/2022 1:28:27 AM)

I don’t know much about either one. I wanted a big and got that, so good I guess.

And for Moore, it seems like he developed quite a bit at Duke. From the Athletic:

quote:

I tip my hat to Wendell,” says Duke associate head coach Chris Carrawell. “He didn’t rush the process.”

The result was steady growth over the course of three years. A large part of that was athletically, where Carrawell and Duke’s staff thought there was more that Moore (no pun intended) could get out of his body. “I said, look man, you had one dunk this year? And that was on a breakaway; that doesn’t really count, and you should dunk that,” Carrawell jokes. “So we thought he had to become more explosive, quicker.” To do that, Moore worked with Duke’s strength and sports science staffs — including using Catapult technology employed by several NBA teams — to enhance his athleticism. That translated directly into changing Moore’s gait, which in turn changed how quickly he ran, how high he jumped, and how he could move around the court without expending as much energy.

From there, the translation to production was obvious. Moore averaged 13.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game this season, easily the best marks of his career. Just as important were his surges as a shooter; Moore hit 41.3 percent of his 3s, 80.5 percent of his free throws, and maintained an effective field-goal percentage of 56.9 percent, per KenPom. “The shots he was passing up — wide-open shots — his first couple of years, he was shooting (last season),” Carrawell says. “He was knocking them down with no hesitation. Usually if he missed his first 3-point shot his freshman or sophomore year, he would be hesitant (the next time), and catch it and put it on (the floor). Now it was just like he kept firing away.”

Also, good defender:

quote:

Then defensively, at 6-foot-5 and 216 pounds — but with a 7-foot wingspan — Moore could realistically guard any position one through four, and regularly was asked to defend the opponent’s best perimeter player. His steals were partial proof of that, but he also registered just 1.9 fouls committed per 40 minutes, per KenPom, and was top 20 in that respect in ACC play.
