I guess we root for the Bears to beat Denver next week?

Interesting. Everything being equal, I think we should root for Denver because a lousy Chi record counts twice in our strength of schedule. One thing that might not be equal is Denver being stuck with Russell $$$ Wilson for 2-3 more years, so they may not be in the mix for QB.

Denver has SEan Payton as a HC. Without HOF QB play (which has surpassed Wilson at this point) he's average at best as a HC.

KOC wishes he would have TOLD COUSINS TO CLOCK THE BALL.

Um. Shouldn't Cousins just instinctively do this? You really have to TELL HIM TO DO THIS?

THIS IS ONE OF THE TOP REASONS COUSINS ISN'T GREAT, WHY HE WILL NEVER BE ANYTHING BETTER THAN GOOD. AND WHY HE WILL NOT WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP WITHOUT AN HISTORICALLY GREAT DEFENSE LIKE THE ONES THAT ONE BRAD JOHNSON, TRENT DILFER AND JIM MCMAHON SUPERBOWLS.

Right now, strength of schedule is the difference between picking #1 overall and #4-5. We usually win a meaningless game or two every year that drop our draft position.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/25/2023 11:04:21 AM)

Drake May this year, 5 TDs, 4 Ints. F that.

ebergste -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/25/2023 11:06:35 AM)

Here is my take from yesterday.
Kirk wasn't under pressure all game, but when he is under pressure it's so quick and from horrible break-downs from the O-line that it's almost amazing he isn't more jumpy and happy feet then he is. He is never sure when that D-lineman is going to free-release (or get blocked by our interior O-line) which is almost the same and be hitting him after .5 seconds that it affects his ability to make reads. Not sure what the solution is but somehow we have to stop the jailbreak moments early in the game. It's one thing to have edge pressure or heavy blitz pressure get to your QB as the QB can anticipate and check out or step up from that. It's another when a four man rush comes with a simple stunt and the outside man loops inside, comes straight through and kills the QB. It can't be anticipated by the QB and just destroys everything. It's also not excusable as the O-line has a numbers advantage in that situation. We all know our interior O-line sucks but some of that crap is high school football level mistakes and lack of anticipation. I don't get it.

Our defense is significantly better than last year but we are in year one of a new defense with lots of new personal and few stars. We are giving lots of looks to opposing offenses but a lot of them are heavy blitz single cover looks and we are getting toasted. The lack of pressure plus heavy blitz looks is leaving our middle exposed (exactly the same as last year for different reasons). One thing that kills me is when one receiver starts to go off like Allan did against us after Williams got hurt. Do something different. Let someone else kill you but stop the bleeding from that one player. Spy them up and take your chances everywhere else. Something.

That was one of the worst 2 minute offense performances in recent memory. I hope the coach comes out and claims the F-up on that one. NO reason not to clock that ball and have 2 shots at the end zone.

I knew of his #2 overall status but hadn't seen him play until last week. He played the Gophers and had some nice throws but overall he was pretty "meh" to be that highly rated.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/25/2023 11:09:06 AM)

There has to be soul-searching across the Vikings because next week’s game against the Carolina Panthers has become a must-win. Heck, the Vikings probably need to win their next two or three games.

At the risk of sounding redundant, time’s running out. There is no more time for mistakes, unforced errors, or finding new ways to lose. There needs to be wins, or this season is over.

Well if we must win the next three we are ****ed. Because this team will not be capable of beating the Chiefs in week 5.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/25/2023 11:12:16 AM)

There needs to be wins, or this season is over.

Ah, the old mathematical chance.

In the Super Bowl era, only 2.4% of 0-3 teams have overcome such a start to make the postseason. Yes, that statistic spans 14-game, 16-game and 17-game seasons. But it hasn't happened since the NFL expanded the regular season to 17 games. The last 0-3 team to make the playoffs was the 2018 Houston Texans.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/25/2023 11:13:16 AM)

Or...

Since 2002, 99 teams have started with three straight losses and only one, the 2018 Houston Texans, made the postseason.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/25/2023 11:15:20 AM)

Trekie and others have mentioned it. If a 10+ year vet has to be told that, in that situation, he needs to sit and we probably have the wrong coach. How KOC wasn't lighting him up from the sidelines screams enabler.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/25/2023 11:18:29 AM)

In my book, we never had a chance this season because the defense was too devoid of talent. As of today, the chance of making the playoffs is about zero and the regime needs to be all in to acquire draft picks and salary cap for next year and beyond.

Meanwhile, we really need a few defenders to show they are solid starters. Otherwise, the rebuild will go on for many more years.

OK. the line that says it hasn't happened since the NFL expanded the regular season.

How many seasons have had 17 games so far?

That being said...anything can happen but it's not likely. We can't even win winnable games. There is no sign in our play we can turn this thing around. and it's not like we don't still have a lot of tough games ahead.

We will need a lot of things to change rather rapidly or we will go nowhere but to the top of the draft which is probably the best scenario at this point.

It's not like we've played really well. We've been good enough to be in the games but there are a lot of warts here. I just don't see a team with these warts suddenly becoming really good. It's not just overcoming 0-3 and a few bad breaks. It's overcoming our own glaring easily exploitable shortcomings as well. I just don't see it. I don't believe in tanking, but continuing to lose would be better. We dont' stand a chance against the better teams in this league right now.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/25/2023 11:27:50 AM)

If they lose to Carolina with the Chiefs coming up soon after that, there is no reason NOT to shop Hunter and see what he can command.

Why even ask how many 17 game seasons there have been since ZERO 0-3 teams have made the playoffs during that time.

I mean, in reality, who cares about making the playoffs with this roster? Worse draft pick and get smoked if we actually do make it. Lets do the right thing for the franchise moving forward and not care about another revenue game for the Wilfs in the form of a playoff game.

Tries to win? What does that mean? I live in Illinois near Chicago so I"m force fed Bear news and every single game is on TV. Fields is a very, very inaccurate passer and doesn't see the field well at all. His only skill is running. Cousins has his faults, that's obvious, but there is no way that any objective football observer would take Fields over Cousins at this point in time. If Fields "tries" to win, then why have the Bears lost 13 straight games?

He is in his second season…

JFC..KFC is in his 12th

KFC has multiple talented receivers, everywhere, including out of the backfield..

Chicago got waffle stomped by Kanas city, I didn’t watch the game, I had plumbing to look at for my SIL.

when I got back home, Kc was up 41-0, K C backupQB, running backs, and skill players were still gashing Chicago for yards.

Chicago got 2 turnover, by their defense.. scored on both of them..

How did Cousins do when handed a take-away or TOOD in scoring position…?

He ****ing choked..

I await your but, but..,but..
Rebuttal claiming that Fields, as a second year player, has piss poor mechanics and patience in the passing game.

What the hell ever…

His mobility is a PLUS.

Our STATUTE QB, has no pocket awareness, and stands there eating hits and fumbling, like the moron he is…

Prosecution rests.

It doesn't even matter Bill.

It's just stupid to point out that no team has done it in the two years we've had 17 games. So what? I would think that one extra game would increase the odds of recoving from an 0-3 start...but...

What matters is we don't have the personnel, coaching, and chutzpah to pull it off anyway.

Our 12 year veteran QB apparently needs to be told to clock the ball (this isn't new either. IIRC it happened with Zimmer here too) Our Defense can't generate Pressure on the QB. Our Oline can't protect. more than half of Kwesi's draft picks can't play themselves onto the field. This team is not poised to buck the odds at all. Right now the odds in a 17 game season is 0%. It would take a far more talented and better prepared roster to do this. With our remaining schedule and lackluster play/gameplanning/two minute drill calamity, there is no way this team can overcome it.

So which would be better?

Cancer or AIDS?

Arguing over who is better between Fields and Cousins is like arguing which would be better, Hitler or Stalin.

Which would be better? Getting Shot or getting stabbed.

Which would be better? Eating shit or eating vomit.

They both suck.

Neither is leading their team anywhere. I want neither. I want BETTER. Giving up passing accuracy for a guy that runs fast isn't fixing the problem if you still have a bad QB, who's just bad for different reasons.

So which would be better?
