Right now Chicago has the 1st 2 picks in the draft (having Carolina's pick).

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/2/2023 7:38:06 AM)

Only undefeated teams remaining are SF and Philly, and they play each other week 13, at Philly.

Philly plays at KC week 11, but does get a bye right before that.

Last time was 1948.

One mock has them taking Caleb and Marvin Harrison Jr. He could be the kind of QB that doesn't need top tier receivers and instead makes average receivers look good.

Probably not more.

He’ll get 10M/year as the #1 pick, with ~40M guaranteed.

And no guarantee he’ll like his 2025 drafting team more than 2024.

Plus risk a major injury in the 2024 college season

I wonder how much one would collect in insurance in such a scenario? I mean obviously he'll win multiple Super Bowls ....

Poll 100,000 NFL followers on whether they'd rather have KFC or Caleb Williams at QB and 999,995 of them will say Caleb. The top reasons for the five people wanting KFC are "His values", followed by "A family man" [&:][&:][&:]

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/2/2023 10:45:16 AM)

Last time Chicago had two high draft picks, they picked #3 and #4 in 1965 and picked 2 HOFers in Dick Butkus and Gayle Sayers.

and they are probably dumb enough to draft a LB and RB high again.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/2/2023 10:47:54 AM)

In 1948 Washington selected #1 and #4, I am not sure if any team has selected both #1 and #2 in the draft.

Chicago is on their way.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/2/2023 10:49:22 AM)

It's possible Chicago keeps Fields and trades away the #1 pick again, should Fields show development this season.

Don't see that happening, the fans and media would riot.

Caleb Williams might be a bust but you don't turn down what almost everybody says is a generational passing talent. "Passing" being the key word.

Exactly. You take a shot on a talent like that even if there's a chance they may never be as good as Kirk.

Who knows. Obviously he has not proven that he is unable to ... so there's that.

Helps playing the #32 defense in both yards and scoring.

He had a big 2nd quarter, but led them to 7 second half points.

Denver tied the game on a Fields fumble returned for a TD and then put it away with a Fields INT.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/2/2023 12:34:48 PM)

My feelings on this game are all over the place.

1. we WON. Good news but in the long run probably bad as has been discussed in here.
2. Defense beating up on an offense with a rookie QB and not allowing a TD (their only TD was the 99 yard Pick six)
3. Marcus Davenport PLAYED and was involved with a couple of sacks. (think the number 0 looks stupid to me though but why should I care?)
4. Still -1 on the turnover ratio for this game. And they got 10 points off of turnovers. It was the only reason this game was close.
5. Cousins was 100% at fault for the first one. Second one his arm was hit as he threw it.
6. Cousins holds the ball too long like he's afraid to take the risks that better QBs excel at. Playing scared...great way to lose against better teams.
7. For the love of Football, trust your receivers to come down with the ball.
8. Adam Theilen was about the only WR they had that was worth a shit yesterday. That's a lot easier to defend.
9. the scheme we used to win this week will get us killed against Mahomes and the Chiefs next week. Flores better realize that or we will be in for a VERY LONG DAY.
10. Harrison Smith apparently still has something left in the tank.
11. Running game was pretty solid, Mattison was gashing their D for the second week in a row (not saying much as both defenses were crappy but still) Akers looks like a nice pickup, good compliment to Mattison (and it cost us virtually nothing)
12. finally, I don't know who our QB will be next year but I really hope his name is NOT COUSINS.

Our Defense looked actually very good....the offense not so much. Instead of letting Kwesi cook; lets let Flores cook. 4 games in I love watching the defense over the offense....I would watch another game when our defense was on the field last year after about game 11.
