One possible benefit of the KFC injury is that the Vikings will make a serious effort to improve their running game. Also, it probably prevents some misguided trade before the trading deadline where we lose more draft picks. I am trying to stay positive here.

Congrats Kirk haters. You got your wish

So, all the posters that wanted him to get hurt? Or all the posters that wanted Hall to start?

I'll wait while you find them.

Do you mean now or when we were 1-4. They know who they are. Dan is one even now.

Says the guy who advocated trading players who were not signed beyond the season.

You know what my posts were like versus your Kirk love posts were. Own it.

Doesn't negate what I said... YOU were up for trading players in your 'turn the clock back to 1-4' scenario... so YOU own it. I wanted him traded at the time. So what.

Really bizarre behavior. Almost blaming others that he got hurt or something.

Nah. You get what you wished for. Don’t cry if it is Mannion. Kirk haters have no right to bitch about QB play now.

I get what I wished for??? You're going insane.

He gets that way. It makes him feel better if it's our fault.

Crap. I forgot about Mullens...

"Nick Mullens was placed on injured reserve the same week that Justin Jefferson was and is not available to come back until after next week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. The Vikings also signed long-time veteran Sean Mannion to the practice squad."

Dam. Forgot about Mullens / Mannion. No wonder Hall got in.

We've done absolutely no long term planning at the position ...

Unfortunately true. It would have been more thoughtful to pick up Wentz rather than Manion when Kirk was the clear starter. No it seems like a desperation move and could also affect Hall.

The very least of my concerns.

The deck is stacked against him as it is, but if he can't handle competition from a journeyman, I don't want him as my QB.

I'm getting Christian Ponder flashbacks just thinking baout it.

But they will have to work in passing plays in practice for the new QB. Seems little time will be available for working on rushing. Read there are very few opportunities during the week, hence the season, to work on stuff.

Cory Chavous analysis of Jaren Hall. He rated Hall the 8th best QB in the draft. Interestingly, Chavous rated C.J. Stroud number one over Bryce Young.

8. Jaren Hall 6’0 211 BYU
Grade: 5.84 (3rd Round)
Big Board Rank: 148
What makes this player NASTY? (Strengths): Athletic bloodlines. He has started as a baseball and
football player at BYU. He operated in the shotgun or under center. Does not take a lot of sacks.
Above average footwork in the dropback game. Keeps his feet hot in the pocket and steps up to get
four-or-five yards to avoid the sack (1st play, Boise State ‘22). Strong arm with a compact delivery.
Exhibits light feet on play fakes (pistol) that require him to turn his back to the defense. Slides to
his right, keeps a shoulder-width base and gets rid of the ball on his second hitch after a slight climb
(dig pattern, 1st QTR/12:57, Boise State ‘22). Off of one step after play fakes, has enough arm to
throw the far hash hitch route to the outside WR. Threw an out-breaking (corner) on a rope 35
yards for a score against Boise State late in the third quarter (Boise State ‘22). Dropped a dime down
the left sidelines in the bucket vs. man-to-man coverage in first career start (TD, 2nd QTR, USF
‘19). Demonstrated touch leading WRs to an area on deep corner routes at the 2023 Senior Bowl
(45-yard throw to Reed, WR/DB, Day 2). Fires comebacks on the run when rolling right into tight
windows (2nd and goal, 4th QTR, Boise State ‘22). In empty gun spread shotgun, works through
the field and comes to the No. 2 weak WR (3rd and 5, 1st QTR, USF ‘19). Up to 60-yard range on
the field. Even early in his career, he kept his eyes downfield and resisted the temptation to run (1st
play, Toledo ‘19). He has thrown solid crossing patterns under pressure. Contains touch on sail
patterns (out-breaking bench routes) to his No. 2 slot receiver. Transfers his weight on stop passes
outside the numbers. Used on the QB lead counter in the Red Zone (TD, 1st QTR, Boise State ‘22).
He’s broken down safeties as a runner with simple one-step cuts in space and taken off for big gains
(3rd and 4, vs. Skinner, 3rd QTR/9:52, Boise State ‘22). Possesses enough speed in the open field
following his pulling OL (QB counter TD, 3rd QTR, USF ‘19). Broke out on a zone read vs. Utah in
2021 and outran the inside-out angle of pursuit by safety Vonte Davis on a 66-yd TD (called back,
stepped out of bounds, 4th QTR).
Weaknesses: Age. 25 years old. In 2021, he tapped the ball before releasing (Baylor ‘21). Balls sail
on him over the middle of the field after resetting his feet (dropped INT, 1st QTR/5:01, Boise State
‘22). Runs himself into sacks pulling the ball down and failing to pull the trigger (QB sack, 3rd
QTR/0:05, Baylor ‘21). Deep ball anticipation and accuracy had been inconsistent prior to 2022
(post hangs up in the air, 1st QTR/0:30, Baylor ‘21). Falls away from some throws when teams bring
all-out pressure concepts (3rd and 7, 1st QTR/12:20, Arkansas ‘22). Does not get the ball out of
bounds on throwaways (INT, Skinner, 2nd QTR/12:36, Boise State ‘22). Left a post route short down
the field vs. Baylor in 2021 (1st QTR/0:42, 51 air yards). Left some balls to the inside shoulders of
WRs on Day 2 of 2023 Senior Bowl practices (7-on-7). Left-hand dominant as a runner. Fumbled
five times in 2022 after fumbling just three times in 2021. Slight durability concerns. Left the USF
game in 2019 due to concussion-like symptoms (https://www.deseret.com/2019/10/12/20910378/
byu-second-half-collapse-on-the-road-falls-27-23-to-south-florida). Foot injury forced him to miss BYU’s Independence Bowl
loss to UAB in 2021. Dealt with a shoulder injury vs. Notre Dame
in 2022 and did not throw the ball with definitiveness. Suffered a
right ankle injury vs. Stanford and did not play in the team’s bowl
game in 2022.

I’ve hated KFC for at least three seasons..
And I have been very upfront about it..

I’m sick of him, his preachy attitude and his greed for money at the expense of the franchise..

I’m a Vikings fan… not a KFC fan..

Historically, we are stuck in a rut and KFC is the wagon train driver on the Oregon Trail.

Weird. He won against SF and at GB. Maybe you need to come back to reality which you will now w/o a top qb

Pump the brakes a bit Phil. We started 1-4 with him too. Calling him a top QB seems a bit agenda driven.

He is a top ranked qb this year with no running game. He was the reason we were 13-4 last year with a bad defense. Check yourself.

So was he the reason we lost the playoff game?

No, defense made Daniel Jones look like Steve Young in his prime. Average WRs were wide open all day. Barkley had his way.

So zero blame for throwing a 2 yard pass on 4th and 8. Got it.

He got pummeled in 1.5 seconds. Should he have thrown it up for grabs to someone like he did when JJ made play in Buffalo? Yes.

fmaltes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/29/2023 4:44:02 PM)

Final Summary by Chavous of Hall:

Time to get NASTY (Our Summary): The first African-American quarterback in BYU history also left
school as one of its most dynamic. This at a university with one of the best track records of sending
quarterbacks to the NFL. Some of Hall’s best work came in 2021, when he seemed intent on making
Cougars fans forget about former second overall pick Zach Wilson (Jets). The stretches of brilliance
have often come in capsules. For example, near the end of 2021, when a final four-game stretch included 11 touchdown passes to just two interceptions. Or the Boise State contest in November 2022,
where he led a fourth quarter come from behind 31-28 victory and compiled nearly 500 yards of
total offense. The former BYU outfielder emulates crow hops to get the ball to the sidelines off one
step on hitches. The talent is undeniable. He’s made mistakes under pressure but those were minimized largely over a two-year stretch. Think a more under control version of the aforementioned
Wilson. Hall’s size and durability are concerns, particularly if used as a runner. Lower body injuries
knocked him out of two bowl games and he fought through a shoulder injury versus Notre Dame in
2022. If healthy, Hall has starting potential for an NFL team. At worst, the mature 25-year old can
develop into a legitimate No. 2 signal-caller

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/29/2023 4:44:07 PM)

I guess Green Bay is a Super Bowl contender now.

I’ve heard that teams that knock out opposing QB’s are likely to win it all.

Start Turd Mannion and lean on Mattison and the PA pass.

Finish 4-13 and see how high a pick it’ll get us.

The scary thing is an offense with Hall is going to have to run Hall on qb run option. More apt to injury and no backup.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/29/2023 4:50:39 PM)

One minute, enjoying the 'double' win (Minny win, GB loss) at GB, watching Love flounder like the shit QB he is, and laughing at Marty wanting money for a bet he didn't make.

Then the KFC injury.

Then Phil losing it while immediately lashing out at others over losing KFC. IMO the season is lost, and we have an opportunity to trade a couple of players for at least something. And duh, we will be picking higher now as compared to an hour ago.

So while that isn't the way to lose KFC or anyone, things are ok. Marty and Phil, go enjoy nature or something.

I don't think it's scary at all. Do what he does well. If he doesn't hold up the expectations aren't that high to begin with.

Good point especially considering that Hall has an injury history from his college days and also is not a big QB physically. Whatever critiques or issues you may have with KFC, he was very durable and could take a lot of punishment. I am curious who will do the surgery on KFC.
