Cory Chavous analysis of Jaren Hall. He rated Hall the 8th best QB in the draft. Interestingly, Chavous rated C.J. Stroud number one over Bryce Young.

What makes this player NASTY? (Strengths): Athletic bloodlines. He has started as a baseball and
football player at BYU. He operated in the shotgun or under center. Does not take a lot of sacks.
Above average footwork in the dropback game. Keeps his feet hot in the pocket and steps up to get
four-or-five yards to avoid the sack (1st play, Boise State ‘22). Strong arm with a compact delivery.
Exhibits light feet on play fakes (pistol) that require him to turn his back to the defense. Slides to
his right, keeps a shoulder-width base and gets rid of the ball on his second hitch after a slight climb
(dig pattern, 1st QTR/12:57, Boise State ‘22). Off of one step after play fakes, has enough arm to
throw the far hash hitch route to the outside WR. Threw an out-breaking (corner) on a rope 35
yards for a score against Boise State late in the third quarter (Boise State ‘22). Dropped a dime down
the left sidelines in the bucket vs. man-to-man coverage in first career start (TD, 2nd QTR, USF
‘19). Demonstrated touch leading WRs to an area on deep corner routes at the 2023 Senior Bowl
(45-yard throw to Reed, WR/DB, Day 2). Fires comebacks on the run when rolling right into tight
windows (2nd and goal, 4th QTR, Boise State ‘22). In empty gun spread shotgun, works through
the field and comes to the No. 2 weak WR (3rd and 5, 1st QTR, USF ‘19). Up to 60-yard range on
the field. Even early in his career, he kept his eyes downfield and resisted the temptation to run (1st
play, Toledo ‘19). He has thrown solid crossing patterns under pressure. Contains touch on sail
patterns (out-breaking bench routes) to his No. 2 slot receiver. Transfers his weight on stop passes
outside the numbers. Used on the QB lead counter in the Red Zone (TD, 1st QTR, Boise State ‘22).
He’s broken down safeties as a runner with simple one-step cuts in space and taken off for big gains
(3rd and 4, vs. Skinner, 3rd QTR/9:52, Boise State ‘22). Possesses enough speed in the open field
following his pulling OL (QB counter TD, 3rd QTR, USF ‘19). Broke out on a zone read vs. Utah in
2021 and outran the inside-out angle of pursuit by safety Vonte Davis on a 66-yd TD (called back,
stepped out of bounds, 4th QTR).
Weaknesses: Age. 25 years old. In 2021, he tapped the ball before releasing (Baylor ‘21). Balls sail
on him over the middle of the field after resetting his feet (dropped INT, 1st QTR/5:01, Boise State
‘22). Runs himself into sacks pulling the ball down and failing to pull the trigger (QB sack, 3rd
QTR/0:05, Baylor ‘21). Deep ball anticipation and accuracy had been inconsistent prior to 2022
(post hangs up in the air, 1st QTR/0:30, Baylor ‘21). Falls away from some throws when teams bring
all-out pressure concepts (3rd and 7, 1st QTR/12:20, Arkansas ‘22). Does not get the ball out of
bounds on throwaways (INT, Skinner, 2nd QTR/12:36, Boise State ‘22). Left a post route short down
the field vs. Baylor in 2021 (1st QTR/0:42, 51 air yards). Left some balls to the inside shoulders of
WRs on Day 2 of 2023 Senior Bowl practices (7-on-7). Left-hand dominant as a runner. Fumbled
five times in 2022 after fumbling just three times in 2021. Slight durability concerns. Left the USF
game in 2019 due to concussion-like symptoms (https://www.deseret.com/2019/10/12/20910378/

loss to UAB in 2021. Dealt with a shoulder injury vs. Notre Dame
in 2022 and did not throw the ball with definitiveness. Suffered a
right ankle injury vs. Stanford and did not play in the team’s bowl
game in 2022.
