Time blurred, and before he knew it, he was on the field, shrugging off tacklers, escaping pockets and listening to Kevin O’Connell map out plays in his ear. Through the crackling microphones, O’Connell described how Dobbs needed to drop back, where the primary reads were going to be, which routes would be happening on the left and which routes receivers would be running on the right. In fact, Dobbs said, the coach was using language that Dobbs had become accustomed to in previous systems to translate into what was necessary Sunday.

This is huge. I can't imagine having a better coach to guide an emergency QB through a game. Zimmer would be like "I don't know, just hand off a lot. Do some QB stuff and don't bother me"

They literally did this for each play and not once do I remember feeling panic that the clock was going to run out.

Says a ton...

Now that I think of it I was never thinking "HURRY UP!" because it seemed like they were moving with pace. Very nice to see.

Oh wow, that NASA post seemed so random I had to look it up to see what if any the connection was.

Dobbs was an aerospace engineering major and interned at NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

https://www.nfl.com/news/mission-success-for-jaguars-qb-nasa-intern-josh-dobbs

Knowing that, it explains how learning a new offense must seem like child's play to him.

Conventional wisdom: You can't expect a QB to be a rocket scientist and grasp an offense in 4 days.

Dobbs: Uh, actually I am a rocket scientist

Yes. I've been out of the loop for a week or so, and out of the country Fri-Sun.

Darrisaw injury is a real concern. It is a groin injury and there is a possibility that it is a chronic injury. Hope we get more details about it which unfortunately is very unlikely.

Ive had a groin injury for 2 years - he'll be fine

He had a surgery on it before his rookie year; probably why he dropped to us:

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/6/2023 5:17:18 PM)

So excited to see what act two brings against the Saints ... but ... just a reminder ...

Dobbs went 1-7 for Arizona and then was benched for Clayton Tune. (his win was against Dallas so, ok, that's worth like 3 wins)

I saw a very little bit of that. Part of the Cards vs Rams. I thought Dobbs looked ok at times ... like MAYBE solid back-up material. He certainly moved well ... in that game I thought he was trying too hard to make things happen.

Maybe I disregarded him because it was the Cards ... I certainly didn't evaluate him carefully. Honestly I had never heard of him before that and I live in AZ.

He didn't have a good game. Even so ... Some QBs get 5-6 games under their belt and you think nah ... that's not it. Low ceiling. Others ... make you want to see more, like they might develop into something in the right situation. He flashed those skills a bit.

Not sure. We may or may not be the right situation. Better than the freakin' Cards that's for sure. We may be just what the doctor ordered.

No way is Dobbs going to top yesterday against the Saints. Not that he needs to. Just being solid but nothing spectacular will keep this team exceeding my expectations after the dreadful start of the season.

Yesterday you mentioned the term "stray voltage" re Cousins. It's so spot on but can't define it. Lost energy, a staleness... I don't know. Regardless, the team had a jolt of energy with Dobbs.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/6/2023 5:19:47 PM)

Dobbs: 1 yr $2 million
Hall: 4 yrs $4.1 million

Cousins: 6 yrs $so high only dobbs can calculate it. Actually I think $185 million.

What a waste. We could have got the same results from nearly any qb.

Is there anyone who thinks he is the answer? Haven't seen that. Good context regardless. To distinguish things, that game should (will?) be remembered a generation from now. Yet next Sunday Rocket Man could fall to earth. Isolated, it is great story... and the ending hasn't been written.

Totally agree on the last sentence.

OK. I ridiculed you and your theory of journeyman = Cousins results.

Yesterday was like a big fat pie to my face.

I'm not ready to concede yet but the floor is a lot slipperier clopping around in lemon meringue.

We'll see.

And Tune responded with 58 yards, 3 turnovers and zero points.

It actually makes what Dobbs did in AZ that much more impressive.

Not just the team but the fans too ... it created win euphoria for everybody without being tainted by pro or anti Cousins bickering.

That is so far below my spiritual plane.

What???

If we have JJ and Darrisaw back and Dobbs having a full week of practice, I expect a great game against a team that is also battling for a playoff spot.

We have won 4 in a row because we are a good team. Defense playing at a level we haven't seen since we beat NO in playoffs. OLine jelling. Unsung guys coming through.

I fully expect a raucous crowd expecting and getting a win.

Something changed with that SF game. We bullied the team that had been bullying us. We gained some confidence and it showed in GB and ATL.

DavidAOlson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/6/2023 8:42:24 PM)

Got something confirmed by Kevin O'Connell's press conference:

The emergency QB was Cam Akers.

So... top 3 QBs out, and the emergency QB went out with an injury, too. Sheesh.
