So.. what a veteran QB is saying is Dobbs wasn’t help out by all the drops..

Maybe his throws are to forced and bad placement..

If he hung JJ out to dry…

I want Hall to get snaps.. we are chasing mediocrity with Mullet ..

We need to see if there is anything KOC can do to generate offensive production consistently.

I suppose Mullet is our best roster option, but I don’t like it.. chasing mediocrity..

Cousins was 4-4. The backups are 3-2, without Jefferson.

What was the defense ranked early in the year versus now?

If it all hinges on the defense then what does it matter who the QB is?

If you don’t know the answer to how we got back to 4-4. [&o]

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/13/2023 8:53:20 PM)

It depends on the opposition, but slow starts tend to make your defensive ranking lower.

The team was the lowest scoring 1st quarter team in the NFL when Kirk went down.

What would this defense's ranking be if the team had fast starts ?

But ball 4 and a receiver not catching a ball that isn't where the viewers want it to be are worlds apart, imo. For some of these plays it's like the catcher missed ball 4 and it wasn't even in the dirt.

You think its just the viewers?

Its much more the players and coaches.

Or do you think only the viewers were upset when Dobbs got JJ hurt?

Dobbs got JJ hurt?

Yes.

He threw the ball way too high, forcing JJ to overextend himself, leaving him wide open to a big hit with no way to protect himself.

Its the very definition of "hanging your receiver out to dry" or a "hospital ball".

He did it to Osboorn against the Falcons too.

Yep, the ball was too high. That sucks! No doubt about it.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/13/2023 9:19:48 PM)

I think there is a good chance the Vikings lose on Saturday.

Cincy tends to play good defense this time of year.

So in a defensive struggle, I think it's more likely the Vikings turn the ball over, and Browning makes just enough plays to win the game.

OTOH, the less experience a QB has, the better Flore's scheme seems to make him struggle, so perhaps the Vikings have a chance in this one, a loss just seems slightly more likely.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/13/2023 10:26:53 PM)

Re how this season is playing out, I'd say every one stands a fair chance of losing this weekend

I'm confident Flores will give Browning a tough game.

It all hinges on Mullins... can he run the offense.

I'm slightly bullish... I think Vikes win.

A win Saturday sure makes that Wildcard spot look, dare I say, likely.

A loss and they will have work to do with likely no real direction at QB.

We can win out and the division is ours. We can lose Saturday and then win out and still win the division if Detroit loses one game besides the two we play them.

I figure if they loser Saturday it's because Mullens isn't any good and at that point the situation spins out of control the rest of the way.

IMO - if we want to make the playoffs and possibly make some noise in the playoffs, then dobbs is the starter we want...dobbs and a more synergetic out the box o'connell is the way to max out the team in its present form....

I agree 100%. I think the possibility of going back to Dobbs looms as fairly probable.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/14/2023 10:48:27 AM)

I think Dobbs had success early because teams prepared for an accurate stationary passing QB in Cousins.

Dobbs was an athletic force that caught them off guard, and he isn't accurate. Once teams adjusted, Dobbs turned into a pumpkin. There is a reason he has bounced around.

Would rather play Hall the final couple games of the season and get a clear picture for next season if playoffs become impossible.

TBH, I’d rather see Hall, as well..

We need to see if KOC is capable of working with a Mobil QB or not..

Patrick MaHomes, Jalen Hurts, Fields, Allen, lots of other offensive minds can design a “ non pocket only, strictly drop back “ passing game with RPO QB’s.

KOC is missing the bus, as far as where the QB position is heading in the NFL.

Cullpepper in Greens offense with “3DEEP”, was the last time we had that look..

And it was wildly successful.

JMO.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/14/2023 11:33:45 AM)

Dobbs and KOC with KOC unwilling to adapt are like oil and water.

i'm expecting a QB in the '24 1st round, and I want him mobile and with pocket perception - I don't want to be overly dependent on perfect o-line conditions....

It’s all on KOC.

His offensive mind set is stuck in “Kirksville”, and his scheme and playcalling show it..

He, like certain others, need to move on past KFC based offensive. Production thinking..

Stats don’t mean shit..

It’s all about wins and picking the right plays for the people you have on the roster as game day actives..

Make Dobbs the emergency QB , let Hall, be the #2.

If Mullet fails to produce in KOC’s “pet” offensive scheme.. run hall out there because if Hall can’t do better than Dobbs or Mullet, we need to draft multiple QB’s and find a real bridge QB until we hit on a QBOTF, like FN greenbay seems to do..

FFS I’m so sick of seeing other teams find franchise level QBks while the Viking Flounder around with stat master crap fest piss poor leaders, @QB.

"other teams" finding anything is a small number.
Jets
Carolina
Giants
Bears
Packers
Seattle
Tampa
Broncos
Browns
Colts
Raiders
Patriots
Falcons
Steelers
Titans
Rams
Saints
Commanders

IMO None of these teams are convinced they have they QB issues solved. Couple teams Browns and Arizona are so financially screwed if they don't, they will force their QB to be correct in spite of the results.

Is Hall now #2 ?

According to this article, KOC might have Mullens on a short leash, in favor of a switch to Hall:
