I saw bits and pieces of last night and wasn't impressed at all. Kirill and Zuc are trying to see who can make the fanciest pass between 3 defenders instead of playing hockey and shooting on net....
The defense as a whole is in trouble when our best player has been a rookie who is still learning the NHL game. Brodin appears to miss Dumba more than we thought anybody would....could be a long season if things don't improve.

NOBODY misses Dumbo. This is a total system failure . There is no game plan. At least not one that anybody sticks to. Get outshot 54 to 24 and you are going to lose most of the time.

I agree on Kaprizov and Zuccarello. Time to split them up.

Sammy Walker down. Vinnie Litteri and Daemon Hunt up.

I hope that means Merrill is benched. I have seen enough of him....

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2023/2024 Season (10/25/2023 7:38:49 AM)

Hartman with a hatty and the good guys win 7-4. Rossi chipped in with his second goal.

I hate to say it, but after the opener, Gus has not looked good.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2023/2024 Season (10/25/2023 8:05:14 AM)

From what I have seen so far, the entire team hasn't looked good. There have been stretches of good play, but for the most part they have been sloppy with passes and poor defensively.
Naturally I tuned out after 2 periods last night, so they finally decided to go off and score some goals.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2023/2024 Season (10/25/2023 9:03:35 AM)

I finally got a chance to watch last night. I see what Jeff is saying about Rossi looking like a different player. He looks very much at home on an NHL ice sheet now.

He hasn't. That first one HAS to be stopped. Same as Tulip the other night. You can't have them put one right through your body like that. He needs to be much better.

The defensive pairings are all out of whack right now because of injuries. Dean needs to get that right.

Hear that the threat of breaking up the top line by Evason changed things going into last night.

He gave up goals in the first minute of the first two periods. That's just unacceptable.

Freddy Gaudreau did not travel due to an upper body injury. The LTIR for Spurgeon allows the #mnwild to afford another forward and also means Spurgeon will miss at least another four games

🗞️ #mnwild News:

We've recalled forward Jujhar Khaira from Iowa. Defenseman Jared Spurgeon has also been placed on Long-Term Injured Reserve.

All I can say is PEE-U.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2023/2024 Season (10/27/2023 11:00:43 AM)

Glad I don't bother with ESPN+ and didn't have to see the terrible hockey it sounds like they played last night. It was bad enough watching the Gophers get clobbered by Bucky Badger.....some bad hockey was being played by both Minnesota teams yesterday. [:(]

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2023/2024 Season (10/27/2023 11:19:24 AM)

Again, since the opener, there has been no real difference between Gus and the Dandelion. We may be calling for Jesper Wallstadt before long.

Don't rush Wallstedt before he is ready. The way Guerin has set this team up this season we are sink or swim with who we have now. If we don't make the playoffs and get a better draft pick because of it, I'm fine with that.

Deano on Rossi so far this season:

He is making plays left and right alongside Marcus Foligno and, with Freddy Gaudreau now hurt, Vinni Lettieri. Friday he scored the game’s opening goal, had four shots, two others attempted and could have had two or three more points had his teammates finished at even-strength and on the second power-play unit.

“So good,” Evason said of the rookie. “I don’t know what his minutes were; I haven’t seen a sheet yet (18:46). Yeah, he just keeps getting better and better every game. He’s more confident. He’s dictating to us that he’s going to play more because of the way he’s playing. He killed penalties tonight. He plays on the power play. He’s been a real strong player for us so far.”

It sounds like if Rossi keeps it up and our top line keeps giving up the puck at alarming rates, it's only a matter of time before he gets a shot at centering KK and Zuc.

Rossi so far has been the one bright spot of this season.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2023/2024 Season (10/29/2023 4:34:00 PM)

I tune in to the game and see we are out shooting them 9-4, but Floppy gave one up early again.....

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2023/2024 Season (10/29/2023 5:15:39 PM)

Up 2-1 now. A goal by the bad guys was reversed because they were off sides.

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2023/2024 Season (10/29/2023 5:21:42 PM)

But of course then we just give up another one, and, as I'm typing this, a third one. [X(]

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2023/2024 Season (10/29/2023 5:26:37 PM)

OK, we just got a PP so hoping we can tie it back up.

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2023/2024 Season (10/30/2023 8:33:09 AM)

Sigh. I'm wondering if our superstar Kaprizov still has it in him? He used to be able to dodge and dart and leave defenders wondering what just happened. I know he's not what's ailing us, but it's weird to see him come down to earth.

He has been a slow starter. Couple of important pieces are out (Boldy and Spurgeon).

Dropping like flies.
