MICHIGAN pro day today. Nine general managers and seven head coaches are scheduled to attend.

Not on that list? Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O’Connell.

[Clearly, McCarthy is our target. Unless Kwesi is trying to throw us off his Dior Sauvage Baccarat scent with a double-back retrace-your-steps-in-camo-slippers maneuver.]

Brady was a fluke, but he is in the Pat's history, just like the recent first round bust at QB, they might be a little gun shy, or feel they can get a QB later.

They might go BPA, which gives them MHJ.

marty -> RE: 2024 Draft (3/22/2024 2:11:44 PM)

My 20 year old self would want the thrill of the Vikings trading up to #2 and taking Daniels.

My 50 year old self sees the history of Brady taken late, Rodgers and Love later in the 1st, Lamar Jackson late 1st, Hurts in the 2nd, Wilson in the 4th, etc ...., trade up failures with Lance, Fields, etc ...., and am now strongly considering the idea of just staying put.

But the 20 year old self is still very much alive at times 😉

They have Jacoby Brisset set to be their starting QB. and Belichick is gone. A New sheriff is in town. So a Very QB needy team sits at 3 with up to 6 QBs of top quality in this draft.

They will draft a QB.

It just feels like there are 2 special guys and then some good guys. I don’t want to ship multiple FR’s for good.

I was just sitting here thinking - it’s going to be Maye @ 3 and being pretty sure of it.

Everyone just lets Daniel’s slide? What will Washington do???

Mayes Cons Inaccurate, Folds under pressure

I can see teams back off on him and him sliding to 11.

This draft season be like [sm=moe.gif]

Todd M -> RE: 2024 Draft (3/22/2024 4:15:05 PM)

Part of me still wants them to trade to 2. Make them make their stand and eliminate what ifs.

Price of that is 3 FRPs plus.

I watched film from McCarthy's pro day. I know it's not real football, but I liked how accurate he was on the move. Very impressive.

I've been a proponent of this for years but Rick "trade back" Spielman never identified a guy he loved and wouldn't consider trading up in the first unless he had a gun to his head.

I'm hoping KOC and Kwesi identify a guy doing everything in their power to get him.

Someone pointed out the 49er's miss on Lance with 3 first rounders. This is true and accurate.

It's also one of the reasons I want them to do it. They missed on Lance and got almost nothing for him.

Yet, a few years later they are playing in the Super Bowl, despite the big trade whiff.

If you have good management you aren't mortgaging the future by giving up 3-4 high picks spread out over 3 years.

ID your guy and go get him!

No what if's

Exactly.

Might as well take the big swing.

If you hit on your QB, you can overcome those lost picks.

If you miss badly, you won't be around to worry about the missing picks.

David Levine -> RE: 2024 Draft (3/22/2024 6:15:03 PM)

Matt Miller@nfldraftscout

JJ McCarthy throwing session lasted about 25 minutes. It was clean—just two clear misses. He showcased zip and touch while hitting a lot of deep routes. He told me he wanted to show his touch placement and did well there. McCarthy has easy power and velocity.

You keep insisting he's inaccurate, but he has completed 65% of his passes in college, while playing for a crappy team. It's laughable to think he slides to 11. Maybe if 28% of his passes were dumps behind the LOS like Nix, he could get it up to 70%.

I don't think that even Queasy is dumb enough to take McCarthy over Daniels.

If you were watching the analysis of him and actually paying attention every single analyst says he misses several simple automatic completions in most of his games. 65% is about average, but he can't be missing all the simple completions he does. I stand by inaccurate. Nix is just under 78% and when you take away the drops he is at 87%. A lot of easy passes true, but he has very good completion % on intermediate and long throws also. Maye is big and has a crazy strong arm. He is also very young with a good chance to improve. I would take him over Nix based on his age. Him sliding to 11 is certainly possible.

Patriots fans wet dream. I'm pretty certain if Daniels is available at 3 they wouldn't make the trade with the Vikings.

Nix during the season, in the senior bowl sessions and workouts has inexplicably burried wide open throws in the dirt. He still undeniably completed a high percentage of his passes as has Maye. They are both accurate.

Maye sliding to 11? Not a chance.

I wouldn't call Maye accurate, but 65% isn't bad. I don't expect him to be available at pick 11, but it would not surprise me unless the Vikings trade up. If they do Maye will most likely be ours. I wouldn't hate getting him as long as it's at 11, but I expect us to use 3 FRPs in the process. Kwesi will call it a huge win for us. If we don't trade up he could slide. Every year there is some player who inexplicably tumbles far down the board. This years draft day slider could be Maye. I'll take your word for it that Nix wasn't good in practices for the Senior Bowl. In the actual game he had a 3 and out followed by a short TD drive. That doesn't bother me much. If McCarthy and Maye are gone I'm happy to draft Nix at 11. If we stick and pick I see no way we can screw up this draft.
