marty -> RE: 2024 Draft (4/8/2024 8:53:54 PM)

I watched a few evaluations of Nix, Penix and Daniels.

The thing I liked about Nix was the quick release, and the accuracy.

I would like to see an evaluation that doesn't think a QB will make it on the NFL, and goes into detail why, with no sugar coating of their positive traits.

Would you draft Sam Brafford knowing what you know now (you probably will get 4-5 good to very good years)? That was the question Judd posed about Penix.

Probably not because those years are not in a row with Bradford, and his longest streak was two healthy years in a row...

and his good years were really only a little above average

Sam was injured/out for the season in the 3rd game of 2009 after his Heisman season...kind of amazing that he went first in the draft

Seems like a fair comparison though for Penix...he has had 2 straight healthy years now, but you never know...

I have mixed feelings on injured guys...

1. an injury can happen to anyone at anytime
2. just seems that too often a guy with injury history is a guy with injury future

I like Penix and am rooting for him, but I don't think I would chance it

I think thats fair. For me, kinda depends on where you take him … he’s healthy but its such a costly, high investment risk where some people are talking about him now (top 15) … I dont want to live in fear but it has to weigh in versus the other prospects available.

Kwesi seems to have no hesitation with injuries, if anything, the opposite, the cost value outweighs the risk by far …

Roundtable on what the Vikings should do in the first round of the draft.

marty -> RE: 2024 Draft (4/9/2024 12:50:51 PM)

Rattler doesn't sound like a good name for a QB, sounds like someone that would get rattled.

Bo or Bubba, don't sound like names for an intelligent QB.

Drake sounds a little uppity, is he disliked like Jeff George ?

Penix is too close to penis, and it sounds like he is too injury prone.

marty -> RE: 2024 Draft (4/9/2024 12:53:33 PM)

I wonder if there is a way the Vikings could trade down from #11, and then trade back up later, and end up with 3 picks in the first round, between #20 and #32 ?

lyle chabot -> RE: 2024 Draft (4/9/2024 2:23:40 PM)

I have a feeling that JJ is the target, but it sounds like Maye might be dropping? A lot of smoke and mirrors right now. I hope they can get JJ with the picks 11 and 23, and not need next years #1. But I guess we will know in 16 day's.

kgdabom -> RE: 2024 Draft (4/9/2024 5:16:00 PM)

The Vikings have not met with Bo Nix narrative is no longer valid.

Bo Nix added to Minnesota Vikings list of 3-Day QB workouts
You’ve heard all the reports about their various visits or attempted meetings with prospects such as Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, J.J. McCarthy, and Michael Penix Jr. Now, according to Breer, we can add Bo Nix to that list.
Oh, and there have been questions about how long the Minnesota Vikings have spent with these quarterbacks, during these private workouts. Breer answered that too. Three days, which is a lot of time to get to know someone.
“Rather than go to the cattle calls that pro days often become, Minnesota dispatched quarterbacks coaches Josh McCown and Grant Udinski to [pro days], and then rolled out a larger group for a three-day whirlwind tour to work out quarterbacks privately. The itinerary included stops in Chapel Hill to meet Drake Maye, Ann Arbor to get with J.J. McCarthy, Seattle to put Penix through the paces and Eugene to see Bo Nix.”

IF the Vikings stick and pick don't be shocked to see Maye available. Surprising sure, but nothing shocking about it.

I wasn't aware that there was a Vikings haven't met with Bo Nix narrative.

There was. Maybe not on this particular message board. I'm not sure. I'm guessing if it's posted on other message boards somebody on this board is probably at least thinking it.

I must have missed those pages...

I've always assumed we were meeting with all 6 QBs (although I guess Williams might turn us down) - and probably Rattler and Milton as well.

TJSweens -> RE: 2024 Draft (4/9/2024 7:22:49 PM)

Here's why I don't belive the idea that Maye or McCarthy will be there for the Vikings. Even if one of them starts to slide, the Vikings have to hope that the Giants pass on a QB at 6 and that neither the Broncos or Raiders trade ahead of the Vikings and poach him.

Agreed. If either makes it to 9, the Bears will trade down to 12 or 13.

Bears can move back 3 or 4 spots, still get a great prospect, add extra picks and screw a division rival.

I'm giving my personal guarantee that the Giants won't take a QB. As for Broncos or Raiders trading ahead of us it could happen, but I'm still confident at least one of the 6 will make it to 11 and probably more. I don't care whether it's Maye or McCarthy. I'm just as happy with Nix or Penix.

For sure. Given how public our QB campaign seems to be, that kind of upmanship would have to give the Bears a chuckle.

This is not the only message board/YouTube site/etc... As a fan of Nix I've been looking for any confirmation he was meeting with the Vikings and today is the first day I saw any. So it is very new news. I'm not going to look over every post made on this message board. Perhaps nobody on this board has ever said anything about us not meeting with him. Many people in many places have said we must not be interested in Nix because we've been meeting will all the others and not him. I like you did assume we would eventually get around to it.

Todd M -> RE: 2024 Draft (4/10/2024 6:48:25 AM)

How much weight do you think - ‘lots of other sites are saying xyz’ carries?

Todd M -> RE: 2024 Draft (4/10/2024 6:54:47 AM)

I’m losing my appetite for trading up. If all 6 are gone by 11 so be it. Half probably won’t be franchise guys anyway. Also, I’ve warmed up to Nix.

I think there is a big drop off from the top 4 to Nix and Penix...if we don't get grab OL or DT at 11.

Yeah I am hovering around ‘whatever’ at this point. Outside of Williams / Daniels who are unattainable, I’m a little less impressed with the other prospects as we go along and I’m worn out by the silly draft industry.

I get the feeling at this point if any of these guys turn into franchise QBs it will be a stroke of luck more than skilled drafting … there’s not that much separating them.

Brad H -> RE: 2024 Draft (4/10/2024 9:01:11 AM)

Here's how I would rate the quarterbacks:

1) Williams
2) Daniels
3) Nix
4) May
5) Penix
6) Rattler
7) McCarthy

I'm going to let the draft happen and see what happens. I see no point in playing armchair GM for weeks on end on Talk Vikes. IMO, any one of the six quarterbacks I have rated in front of McCarthy would have won a national title with that Michigan team. He is Jim Harbaugh II.

Wait a couple years, see which ones turned out to actually be worth a shit.
