. The team has announced that offensive lineman Dalton Risner has been designated to return from injured reserve and can begin practicing with the team. After signing with the Vikings early in the 2023 season, Risner re-signed with the team late in the offseason and went through camp with the team. When the time came for the Vikings to put together their final 53-man roster, the team chose to put him on injured reserve with the designation to return. When the time does come for Risner to return, it will be interesting to see what the Vikings do with him as far as position and playing time is concerned. He was the starter for the Vikings at left guard last season, but Blake Brandel has taken over that spot this season and it doesn’t appear that he’s going to relinquish it any time soon. Right guard Ed Ingram has had his share of struggles in the early course of this season and could end up getting unseated by Risner at some point.

Couple of things that popped up today: Interesting conversation about how strong of conference the NFC North is (after the Chicago, Detroit, and GB beat downs) Blake Cashman has a brace on his leg...something writers hadn't recognized before.

The Vikings opened Risner's 21-day evaluation window on Monday as the team returned to action from its Week 6 bye. Risner opened the season on short-term Injured Reserve after suffering a back injury during training camp. He is eligible to return to play at any point in the 21-day window that's used to evaluate his body's response to football activities. Risner's recovery took longer than he would have preferred, he said, but he feels 100 percent and is excited to help the 5-0 Vikings however he can – even if it means switching sides of the offensive line and handling a different assignment. "I'm comfortable at right and left, whatever guard position it is, truly whatever position they want me to play, I'm ready to go," Risner said. "You guys know I just want to play football – you know what I mean? I'm so grateful to be a Viking. Grateful to put the pads back on and go out there and move around today."

Good early sign for the running back after his hip injury in London. Didn’t see Blake Cashman or Harrison Phillips, though the Vikings can be cautious with a bit of a bonus day today.” Furthermore, a source told VikingsTerritory that Jones “should be good to go” for Sunday’s game. The same source also indicated there’s almost no chance that Hockenson will play against Detroit, instead targeting Week 8 for the tight end’s return.

By a few accounts/metrics, Ingram is one of the worse guards in the NFL. Enough with the excuses, he needs to be replaced. Pronto. Not sure what Risner has but get him in there.

Reddick, 30, was acquired March 29 in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. In the final year of his contract, he's demanding an extension that will pay him commensurate with the top edge rushers. The Jets didn't renegotiate his contract at the time of the trade because they claimed he told them he'd play under his existing contract. He has skipped all team events since the spring. He has forfeited $4.8 million in game checks, plus another $5 million in NFL-mandated fines. If he doesn't report by Week 13, he will not get credit for the season and his contract will toll, meaning his 2025 rights will belong to the Jets. Finding a trading partner won't be easy because he's still owed $9.5 million (nonguaranteed) for the rest of the season, and he recently rejected a one-year proposal from the Jets that would've given him more than the $14.25 million he was due to make in base pay, a source said. On the flip side, there's a demand for edge rushers. Reddick is a highly productive player, having recorded 50.5 sacks in the previous four seasons. The Jets traded a conditional 2026 third-round pick for him, thinking he'd be the final piece on a championship-caliber defense. It's not Mike Ditka trading his whole draft for Ricky Williams (minus a 2nd) plus a 1st and 3rd the next year... but it's damn close to an entire draft. Injured for 1+ games, so we'll see.
