Would it be fair to say that a lot of us are not with this team in a way one might or should be with an 8–2 team?

Most call the record a surprise. That should lead to a bunch of really happy fans.

Wins on the road---sign me up. We were a Nailor catch from winning 30-13 and the defense is the best against the run and rushing TDs allowed in the NFL. The one game that we got torched by Gibbs and defense didn't seem right (Lions/Rams) were when the playcaller and glue guy (Cashman) was out.

The IDL isn't sexy but Bullard, Tillery, and Phillips have done a good job.

So unless the team miraculously goes injury free, you'll always have a built-in excuse for why the team lost. At least that's what history shows.

More to how important Cashman is than anything else and how we play against the Lions with Cashman next time. Pretty tight game w/o him. Detroit so far is a top 3 team in the league.

And we should have beat them.

We had the ball 1st and 10 with a one point lead with 3 minutes left and went 3 and out.

But Cashman or Gilmore... I think the defense kind of falls apart if those guys aren't available.
No one currently adequately replaces them.

I agree on Cashman. He's a threat to blitz and can get back deep in coverage. When he was out, teams were finding a gap behind the linebackers.

I wouldn't put Gilmore in that category. He's been pretty unimpressive IMO. Sometimes he runs around like he's 60.

Jones popped 5 on his 1st run. Couldn’t muster up 2 more plays for 5 more. Instead of a chain mover on 3rd and 4 Sam did his Jefferson stare down for a longer inc.

Gillmore is still better than Evans and allows Murphy to play the slot.
Cashman also lines everyone up and calls the plays.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/20/2024 10:33:00 AM)

Gilmore (born a couple of months apart from the other aged fan fav Patrick Peterson)... Murphy... resign for vet minimums to battle for roster spots and boot Evans & Co.

Problem is, it will take a global all-points bulletin to even begin to find 2-3 good CBs.

Wild guess is they resign one of Gilmore, Murphy, and Shaq (say the latter), crown Blackmon, draft a CB, and sign a CB.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/20/2024 10:35:47 AM)

He either meant in not out or forgot out ‘there’.

I deleted the whole post and instead ragged on the CB group. He may have meant the single game where Pace was out in 2023. Cause he's played in all the 2024 games.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/20/2024 11:13:41 AM)

Yeap. The consensus is that we need a DT and CB(s). While I don't disagree, I think a stud CB would push the D to dominant. More so than a stud DT. It would be great to get both but get the CBs figured out first.

Now, where do you find the stud CB??? [>:] Teams aren't giving those guys away.

Good plan

Someone will overpay for Murphy because of the INTs but he is average at best.

If we would have drafted Verse, our defense would be pretty salty. Even with the average CBs.

Verse is an OLB in the 3-4 so would he even be getting playing time in Minny?

Anyway, CB > 3-4 DL.

Chances are slim for getting a 'true' (lol, at least one poster here doesn't understand the parlance) shut-down corner. More reasonable to aim for two good ones.

Current top FA CBs from sportrac:
Charvarius Ward, Carlton Davis, DJ Reed, Jonathan Jones... and lots of others

Who knows who will hit the market.

Would be ecstatic with Ward or Reed.
Happy with Davis or Jones.

Lots of under the radar guys that Kwesi could tap as well.
If he could repeat 2024 free agency... next year could be exciting.

Extremely winnable game and O'Connell gave it away.

I agree, we can afford two good cb's, top tier dt, and top tier guard....

we have maybe 16 starters signed for 2025...we need two dt's, two cb's, rb, guard....

draft cb, dt, rb...bpa....

we could trade back for picks in the 2nd, and third rounds....

below are the teams with most 2nd and 3rd round picks in 2025...maybe we can get two 2nd rounders, or one 2 and two 3s for our 1st....

sf…2, 3, 3
ne…2, 3, 3
lv…2, 3, 3
kc…2, 3, 3
jack…2, 3, 3
clev…2, 3, 3
chi…2, 2, 3
bf…2, 2, 3

Verse is a force. BFlo would find a way to get him on the field.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/21/2024 2:30:38 PM)

I don’t watch a lot of other games does every game have booth initiated booth reviews?

It seems we could have benefited from a number of quick checks from the booth. Shouldn’t have to throw a flag for a 6 yard completion called inc.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/21/2024 7:17:20 PM)

Jameis Winston is bat shit crazy. That’s all.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/22/2024 10:48:53 AM)

How about we start Reisner at RG, and whenever we have a 10 point lead or more, insert Ingram, to help the run blocking.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/23/2024 8:14:47 AM)

.
Josh Oliver remained out of practice on Friday and having missed every practice this week, it’s not surprising that he’s out for the game in Chicago. Hopefully his ankle will have healed and he’ll be ready to go next week.

Gabe Murphy and Nick Muse are both listed as questionable, and are in their 21-day window to come back from IR. Murphy’s window is almost closed, so he seems more likely to be activated with a corresponding roster move. Muse could also be activated, especially with Josh Oliver out, but we’ll have to wait and see on both.

Other than that, no other injury designations for the Vikings.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/23/2024 8:16:54 AM)

.
From what I’ve seen, nobody has posted anything about Gabriel Murphy returning. He’ll probably be added to the 53 within the next week.

Mark Anderson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/23/2024 10:31:44 AM)

Should we try to sign QB Daniel Jones?

He would be a better backup than we have now. Try to keep him around as backup/competition for JJ next year.

Somebody will overpay for Darnold.

Mark Anderson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/23/2024 11:22:22 AM)

Akayleb Evans gone.

Daniel Jones has a record of 24-44-1 as a starter in his career.

Uh.. no?

That’s a shit record
70 tds in 70 games and 47 interceptions?

Nope.
